    I would recommend to select one of the newer 128K machines in Fuse menu (Machine -> Select... -> Spectrum 128K, +2, ...) This way you may get nicer sound effects and music in many post-1985 games (e.g., RoboCop or Chase H.Q. which also feature bits of digitized speech).

      Some versions of Fuse simulate putting the tape in the tape drive so you need to give the load command to play the tape. Have a look in the menus to see if there is a run tape option which might do it automatically.

    Hi Bob, Great video. I am playing a game called "Mountains of Ket" This is not something which can be completed in an afternoon! I remember playing it back in the 1980s, back then your progress was saved onto a cassette. Is there a way of saving it when using Fuse Emulator?

    • @BytesNBits
      @BytesNBits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Thanks for the comment. Yes, you can save to tape - I think.
      In the Fuse menu look under Media. You can open a tape for writing which will create a tape file on your PC. I think it's something like...
      - Select Media > Tape > Clear to clear any existing tape
      - Start to save the game
      - Select Media > Tape > Write
      - Save the virtual tape to a TAP/TZX file
      I hope this helps.

    • @BytesNBits
      @BytesNBits  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, in FUSE have a look in the options menu under joysticks. You can set the keyboard up to mimic one of the standard joysticks. You also need to enable it in the options -> peripherals -> general menu. This should let you set up the arrow keys for a lot of games. If you've got some sort of game controller you can map this to mimic a standard joystick as well. Have fun!

    • @BytesNBits

      In general Spectrum games didn't let you save a high score table. The only way around it is to use a snapshot in the emulator (if it has that feature). This saves the complete state of the computer so you can reload it later. It then as if you never turned the computer off so it will still have your high score.

    Is there an option to map the keys

    • @BytesNBits
      @BytesNBits  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rich,
      You can map your joystick to press specific keys on the keyboard - Options->joysticks->keyboard. This should make it easier to play games with difficult keyboard layouts.
      I'm not sure if you can remap the actual keyboard e.g. make the A key appear as a B in Fuse. You'd need to look into that.
      The full Spectrum keyboard is already mapped so you can use the basic editor.
      On the PC keyboard the left shift key is mapped to Caps Shift,the right shift key is mapped to Symbol Shift. Have a look here for the Speccy keyboard layout.
      slady.net/Sinclair-ZX-Spectrum-keyboard/layout/
      I hope this helps.

    Very often, when I listen to retro game lovers, I suspect that they have never used a modern gaming console, or at least Steam. Almost always, these are people for whom the path (to the game) is more important than the goal (the gameplay, that is, the game itself). They are not so interested in playing as in making something work in an unusual way. Just compare how much time you spend on setting up, and how much on the game itself?
    The game should run out of the box. Because the game is made to be played, and not to build a tower of crutches. You should only go into the settings if you want to improve something that already works. And not start each game by searching the Internet for a game manual, matching the numbers of the controller buttons to the game buttons that you still have to find ... This is not the path of a player, but of a retro technology fanatic, a demo scene activist, a programmer. Otherwise, very different concepts. But the latter very often identify themselves with the former. Maybe they were gamers, but that was a long time ago. But they don't admit it to themselves.
