Kristin Armstrong is THE most under appreciated female athlete in history. She won THREE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS! In 3 consecutive Olympics! Yet hardly anyone mentions her name in America, on GCN (Emma Pooley is the cycling Queen of England on GCN and Armstrong beat her for one of her Golds) and worldwide I'm sure. My theory is there are a few reasons. Her name has 2 strikes against her. The name Armstrong is not a good one for cycling and her whole name is the same as the disgraced cyclists' ex wife's name so people probably get confused by that. She was primarily a TT specialist. She won a few decent road races but all of her respected victories are in TT. She's a female American cyclist which in America gets basically zero publicity. She doesn't toot her own horn and considers herself a mother first, and probably not the most charismatic champion America has had. We all know of Lindsay Vonn, Simone Biles, or Mary Lou Retton but Kristin Armstrong? She's won more consecutive Golds than any of these heroes. It's like she's a forgotten champion. You gotta know she broke the hearts of so many European women cyclists when she captured those 3 golds. It's like everyone except in America hated her for being so good. That resentment continues to this very day. Very rarely do you hear her name brought up. Her achievement may NEVER be broken. NEVER! She was queen of the Olympics for 12 YEARS! What's sad is even here in America many people don't even know about her. They associate the name Kristin Armstrong as Lance's ex wife. Today she coaches Chloe Dygert Owen and contributes greatly to the success of female American cycling. America's 30 for 30 show should definitely do a documentary on her. I bet they will. Her story is very interesting.
The curse of Kristin Armstrong is her last name. Say if it was "Kristin Jones" she would be one of America's greatest Olympic champions yet no one cares because they associate that name with cheating, lying, and doping. Oh and that was Lance Armstrong's wife's name when he was in his fake prime.
Bobby Van Awbwah nah I am German and when I watched this video the first time the only name I already knew was Armstrong 🙂 so don‘t get panic! I think her name helps her a bit to remember her. But yes, it is confusing. Maybe it‘s just that women in road racing are not that famous in general. But she is great!! 👍🏼

It's so funny that a recent GCN list of "inspirational" female cyclists episode came out and Kristin Armstrong was no where on it. It was mostly British riders. I mean how much more inspirational can a female be that wins 3 consecutive gold medals in 3 Olympics? Doesn't that sound like a goal for any female cyclist? Even in the comments from that episode people were pleading for Emma to be in the list. Seriously?
