    I remember back in my junior year of high school, a month before the pandemic happened, every time one student coughe or sneezed, my friends would get up and reference this movie where they yelled “2319! WE HAVE A 2139!” and pretend to cover him with a rag. Of course, this was around the time where we didn’t think COVID was that serious. I miss high school. :(

    A bit of background information:
    1) When this movie was made, California was going through an energy shortage, and there were "rolling blackouts". (Pixar is located in Emeryville, California, near San Francisco.) It actually turns out there wasn't really an energy shortage, and it was just because Enron was manipulating the energy market in California. (But no one knew that at the time.)
    2) Finding Nemo was released two years after Monsters, Inc. (But Pixar was already working on Finding Nemo before Monsters, Inc. was finished.) So, no one would have recognized the Finding Nemo easter egg when Monsters, Inc. was originally released.

    • @jordancooney6817
      @jordancooney6817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      They've actually been doing that ever since. Finding Nemo had an Incredibles easter egg, Up had a Toy Story 3 easter egg, Cars 2 had a Brave easter egg, etc.

    Loads of animated films from the same time had a prominent odd-couple leading pair, such as Toy Story and Shrek, and those films started off by having the characters not like each other and become friends over the course of the film. I find it really refreshing that we've skipped over that for Monsters Inc, and basically just start off with Mike and Sully having clearly been friends for a long time, and then just jump straight into the story from there

    14:27 There's a theory that these monsters weren't talking about Boo but about Jack-Jack from The Incredibles
    [Incredibles 2 spoilers]
    Because in the second movie it shows that he can travel to another dimension, which in this case would be that of monsters and the description of them matches the powers that the baby has

    • @Nameless82284
      @Nameless82284 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't get Jack-Jack's powers the writers just decided to give him every power ever for no reason. It could have been so simple if his powers were just shape-shifting but no, they gave him every power ever and it doesn't make sense.

    • @meganlodon
      @meganlodon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Nameless82284 Being the Jack of all trades dosen't need to make sense. That said, they chose to do so because babies can be unpredictable. Similar reasons for Jack-Jack's siblings: kids can be energetic (Flash's super speed) and teenagers can be shy (Violet's invisibility). Or the parents: men can be fierce (Bob's strength) and women can be adaptable (Helen's flexibility). Just remember, almost everything has meaning in this movie. So, almost everything makes sense.

    Wahoo! I get to talk about the CDA code:
    2319 is actually more clever than you think.
    The 23rd letter of the alphabet is W, and the 19th is S.
    Together, the code is code WS.
    What is the most common thing that gets brought back into the monster world? A white sock.
    2319 is code for white sock.
    Just a theory, you say? Then let me offer up the other one that gets overlooked, from the CDA restaurant scene:
    7835 = GHCE = Girl human child escaped
    Still not convinced? Here's the ones found in Monsters at Work:
    1320 = MT = Monster trapped
    418 = DR = Damaged room
    42216 = DVP = Door Vault paperwork
    1994 = SID = Shut it down

    1) When Sully inadvertently scares Boo…that scene hit hard when I first watched it. After I had my three daughters…that scene hits waaaay different.

      At one moment, after a incident, Boog is transfered with Elliot in the heart of the wild forest. Which of course is not to is enjoyement at all !
      Elliot will (try) to learn to him how to live in the woods, and the two will become friend overtime, even if Boog consider at first his currently situation is due to Elliot clumsiness.
      However, if the situation was not already hard enough, the two must also face the beginning of the Hunting Season with Shaw highly decider to hunt the two.
      So, Boog and Elliot and all the others inhabitants of the forest will cooperate together to repel the hunters in a final battle to cut the breath !

    There is something to how they match the kids with their monsters cos somehow Boo is scared of Randall in a way that she isn't of the other monsters, also ironically they're both good at disappearing, that and Boo wears her purple monster costume that looks like Randall's purple scales.
    Though I do like how Waternoose still stands up for Sully when Randall's trash talking him. Waternoose banished him and Mike but he's not happy about it, unlike Randall he didn't have anything against them and actually liked them.

    Say, about that part where eyewitnesses were claiming that Boo could fly, have laser vision, and telekinetic mind powers, they were CLEARLY exaggerating details and outright lying just to make their stories sound more interesting. Heck, even in the human world that happens in the news sometimes, where some folks either exaggerate or lie about what they see or claim to see, just to get notoriety.

    I saw Monster's Inc when I was maybe 6? and Sully scaring Boo made me cry. I don't remember feeling scared of Sully, but I understood that Sully looked really scary and I cried because I knew Boo was really scared. It made me feel so sad.

    5:11 Is actually a pun. The monster says "Oh great" but it could also be understood as "oh grate" the thing he falls through. Not sure if this was mentioned or not (I looked in the comments but couldn't find any mention of it).

    Please do not take this the wrong way, Sophie, but the way you were talking about Mr Bile in the beginning, you should run your own monster company. "You did everything wrong! You're supposed to scare the child not the other way around! You're the monster here! Have some Pride, man!"

    About the thing they call children "toxic". I have a theory here, boys and girls. So, imagine monsters got into humans world during Middle Ages and then they were met by an angry mob with pitchforks and got injured-it's logical that the first impression of the human world was destroyed. And so monsters came up with the idea to create this myth for their own safety. Humans are not "toxic", they are dangerous-that's the thing. And, hell yeah, monsters are right-I mean, if one of them would get here-he'd be shoved into a lab immediately.
    Oh, and I really can't wait for you to react to "Monsters University". This film has a great message.

    🙂 Just like "Cars" was noteworthy for being Paul Newman's final role (as Doc Hudson), "Monsters Inc" is noteworthy for being James Coburn's final screen credit (as Waternoose). If neither of those names sound familiar to you, check out their entries over at the IMDb, and prepare to do A LOT of scrolling.

    Fun fact: The voice actor for Mike, Billy Crystal was actually offered to play Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story but he turned it down thinking the film was going to a failure. Then he found out that Toy Story was really, really popular and he kicked himself. So when he was offered another Pixar role, he took it.

    When he said it could let in a child, he didn't meant it could let a child into the room, he meant it could let a child into their world.
