Very well done! Someone on Reddit suggested that Jade captchalogued Candy!Dave's corpse, which is what was briefly seen poking out of her pocket in the latest update.
This is a very good summary video. Ive read all of the epilogues and beyond canon already but NOW I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHERE THE HECK SOLLUX CAME FROM!!!!!!! I finished homestuck beyond canon two months before it started updating again by dumb luck so I'm the last person to need this video but it was still a very fun watch. I did not know about the little bonus stories though and i love them!!!!!!!
Man I know I will never enjoy anything epilogue /beyond canon content, however this is a good video and I do love the adult sprites you made for the players and trolls.
A Threat Sensed gives me more Dirk content, which I actually live for. I don't have a favorite character but if I did it would be Dirk ykwim? Also yeah wth is up with Yiffy lmao.
This is probably the best comprehensive post-OG comic summary I've seen on TH-cam!! Please consider doing a similar video for future Homestuck beyond canon updates!!!
Yeah, as someone who was in your same boat a few months back Postcanon is infinitely easier to read after already knowing all the crazy stuff that happens and you're able to appreciate some of the actual good writing (though I also only read it after consuming a bunch of fanfics that were majorly ooc like CSAU so it was also kinda a breathe of fresh air in comparison lol)
hi hs team and others, ive read og homestuck and the epilogues. also other spinoff stuff. but ive yet to touch hs2. i know theres been some harsh criticism over it, but i am looking forward to its completion. thank you for all your hard work and stay positive? have a good day everyone.
8:11 I am actually confused whyt hey got rid of ^2 cuz it's 2 different continutations of homestuck at once. the same way davepetasprite^2 and Jasprosesprtie^2 work
I speculate that the change was to create a clear differentiation between the original HS2 story and this continuation of it. I also agree that the original name was great for what the story was!
I have always believed that Jane's political shit should've been focused on her trauma from being forced to kill Roxy. Have her be focused on a fear that a newly born fuschia could become a new )(IC. Also also, if they were going to do the dual timeline gimmick then Jane should've been a hero in the meat timeline. Dirk is her best friend and he just fucked off and ruined shit, she should have tagged along to stop him. Having her fall to fascism in one timeline but reforming herself in the other would be a great way to show how people change depending on the events in their lives. (Also: Roxy is a trans woman, though i can admit that it is just a difference in how i read her as a character in homestuck proper. I've literally read her as a trans woman since she was first introduced)
i love that they added canon trans rep but it really shut downs other headcanons :( i've had my transmasc john headcanon for 6+ years, im not ready to let that go for june
@esotericpince they did confirm Roxy's gender across all timelines since she is capable of having biological children and talks to John about her feelings on gender in Candy. And while I can see that idea, I do think that it is an inevitability that any story that actually writes about these characters in a realistic way will kill some headcanons. Even if I don't agree with all of them, if it makes sense in text then I can support it. I personally don't think transmasc Roxy makes sense in text, but it's not too bad. One that I think would be completely wrong with the info in text is transfem Jane. Jane is either a he/him cis(ish) butch, or a trans man and interpreting him as a trans woman would undermine a lot of her identity. For John, I personally don't see him as transmasc at all. Of course it doesn't matter when it comes to personal headcanons or writing your own fan fiction, but if it was in canon I don't think it would be very compelling as a part of the character
@@CalamitasCalliope yeah for sure i agree with you. i dont take narrative arcs and storytelling into consideration when i make my headcanons, i just have a lot of nostalgia and see myself in him :3 its been so long since ive read the epilogues lol, only read the recap since i read it in full on the day they released
sure let's see what this shitshow is going on about! who know maybe they'll fix the VERY TERRIBLE CHARACTERIZATIONS in the next upd8s, with the new team and all.
Like you said, writing murder does not mean condoning murder. The epilogues are a deliberately adult and challenging polemical text. Keeping adult themes in there for shock value is a big part of their identity. You do not, of course, have to like that. You can argue that it goes too far. But the artistic intent is to provoke - not just to annoy or trigger people, but to depict complex and unpleasant situations for the sake of complicating its adult cast and story and themes. There is a perception in modern internet discourse that stories need to be squeaky clean about sensitive topics or avoid them altogether. This is understandable if you are looking to a text as a source of moral guidance. Lots of stories for young people, particularly cartoons, are popular online, and discussions rightfully include commentary about what is and is not appropriate to depict. But the homestuck epilogues are not trying to be that. They are deliberately messy. They don't want to give clear moralising answers, they want you to come to your own conclusions about stuff. James isn't saying it will be okay everyone will have a redemption arc and it will be a purely happy ending. At least, I assume he's not. Jane in the epilogues is not really intended to be redeemable. She's a thinly veiled trump analogue. What he is saying is that the story will try to deal with the themes that exist in a reasonable way. I don't get the impression that james is intending to make a challenging text, as the epilogues were trying to do, rightly or wrongly. He probably is going to treat this stuff as sensitively as he can. That's the impression I get. It's a different approach, not necessarily better or worse, but certainly rounding off some of the harsher elements of the epilogues and to a lesser extent hs2. But this is still, fundamentally, building off an adult story with adult themes. I don't think they're ever going to break the fourth wall and tell us that sexual assault is wrong. Some stuff is frivolous even for homestuck. Yiffy's name can be seen as tasteless and I'm sympathetic to that but it's worth remembering that she's a fictional character in an adult story and that isn't inherently wrong. Do I think it's stupid, yes I do because I don't see it as in character for her to be named that by her parents. But still, the story is not saying it is right and good that she's named that - the joke is at the expense of the parents.
