  • We tried to withdraw money with our Wise card from an atm in Bangkok. We had 2 failed attempts but lastly we could withdraw cash from TTB Bank with our Wise Card. The atm fee in Thailand is 220 THB in general. The best way to withdraw money in Thailand is to use a bank's atm in a shopping mall or bank branch rather than using the standalone atms in Thailand for card copying problems. You can use your Wise card in Bangkok and all of Thailand for withdrawing cash and also for shopping in stores.

    Hi, we are Tugce and Gokay, Turkish couple travel bloggers who travel the world and live in different destinations. We are part digital nomads, part phd students and part beach bums. We are documenting our memories along the way. Met in August 2009 in Turkey, and have started traveling together in 2010. So far, we have lived in Spain, Greece, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico and we carry our backgammon everywhere with us. As long as there is coffee, good weather, wifi and backgammon, we are fine. Our dream is to travel, enjoy sunshine and tropical islands and learn about new cultures while we can work wherever we love together.

    Ehi guys! Nice video, just a question:
    This happen (to be charged of 220baht) also if you previously convert on app from EUR\USD\GBP to BAHT?
    Thank you! I'll be in Thailand in 3 weeks and I'm thinking how to avoid this "tax" to withdrawal.
    Did you know if there are some other option? Thank you very much!

      That is a fee for the ATM - the bank that owns that ATM charges that fee. Every alternative will charge a fee, e.g. a currency exchange kiosk in an airport will generally charge a total fee much higher than the ATM due to currency exchange slippage.

    • @inthatpostcard
      @inthatpostcard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As @rierden mentioned, it is just the ATM fee.

    If you stick to the monthly limit, does Wise charge you any other fees? Normal banks will charge you 2.99% on every transaction plus ATM fees.

      Wise do not charge us any additional fee if we stick to the monthly limit. Except the conversion fee which is almost % 2,00.

      Hi, we always change the currency beforehand. Otherwise, we can't be sure the exchange rate and you don't want to exchange on a bank's rate :D

    I will travel to Bangkok soon and also want to use the Wise card. Do you think, the Wise Card normally works fine, but it could happen that you need some attempts or is there a problem with the Wise Card in general? How is it if you pay with the Wise Card in Bar's or Restaurants? Any problems?

      Hi! We used it in many places in Thailand. I believe it was copied in Krabi but they couldn't take any money since I freeze it after every transaction :D It could happen to any card but This feature of Wise card saved my money!

      @@inthatpostcardI’ve been using the digital card in Thailand and sometimes it works, but often does not. I presume they cannot copy a digital card. Unfortunately I don’t have a physical card, so cannot take out money at the ATM. I will have to use my regular card. Do you know if some ATMs are better? I hear AEON has lower fee, but also has a 20k baht limit.
      Also, at the airport, my screen was not like 2:09. It had: “Do you wish to proceed with this transaction with the conversion rate as shown above.” Choice: 1. No, continue without conversion 2. Yes. 3. Cancel.
      I chose 2. yes, because how to continue and not convert? I was confused. What does choice 1 mean?!

    • @gokaym.4533
      @gokaym.4533 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We always convert in the app, before going to ATM. I believe (not sure) you need to pre-convert and choose NO. Sometimes you need to try 😅 Please let us know what will happen 😊

    • @TheBooban
      @TheBooban 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gokaym.4533 i believe this is the use local currency choice that converts twice, first using their rate, which is terrible. So my choice was bad, very bad. It’s designed to confuse. You should choose No, continue and not Yes here. Not all ATMs ask this. I will try kirugi bank next time, it didn’t have that. Also I believe the limit is 30k baht.

    Just withdrew 8000TBH from Atm Asoke. Thai Atm fee 220THB, Wise Atm fee 1.04THB, Wise conversion fee AUD 2.04 converted to 47.62THB. Total fees of 270THB or AUD 11.50.
    Citibank charged no fees at their Atm but no longer operate in Thailand. IMHO exchanging cash is the much better option.

      @inthatpostcard  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We’re now in Krabi and we needed to withdraw 8000 THB from Bangkok Bank yesterday. As you said, 220 THB (I think) is the common for every bank here. Also the rest of the fees are similar but still better than the rate in Krabi Airport. We were in hurry and couldn’t check the money exchanges in Krabi but in our experience, we’re ok 😁 Thank you for the detailed comment 🙏🏻

    So wise is supposed to give you 2 free atm withdrawls per month, is it not supposed to refund you the atm fee?

    • @inthatpostcard
      @inthatpostcard  หลายเดือนก่อน

      After 2 free atm withdrawals, atm (if it charges) and wise charges fees independently than each other. Yes, I’ve heard some US banks refund the ATM fees but don’t think wise like a regular bank.
