Shane Shakey Byrne rides the new Harley Sportster S Vs Live Wire EV motorcycles - full review

  • Harley Davidson LiveWire EV Vs new Sportster S V-twin; it's two wheeled time with Shakey again. In other words, Byrne out II.
Late Brake Show's resident bike warrior Shane Shakey Byrne rides Harley Davidson's most technically advanced combustion bike against Harley's early-to-market LiveWire electric bike (150 mile range, 0-60 in 3 sec). Both shake off many HD cliches, but also made us both look twice at the styling and engineering.
In the piston corner Shakey had the Sportster S. Not to be confused with Sportsters of old, this thing is a liquid cooled 1252cc twin with VVT, DOHC and 120bhp. It isn't a clattery old studded leather garden implement - this is a chiselled, capable modern weapon. The back end looks like a chopped down flat tracker, and the front wheel/tyre is as wide as most sports bike rear tyres.
But the real fascination came from the Harley LiveWire. Soon to become its own standalone brand name, Harley brought the LiveWire to market some 2 years ago, beating the Japanese, Italians and German legacy bike brands standing and staring. Who'd have thought it?

Once again, Shakey gives us the goods. There are plenty of other bike reviews out there, none like this guy!! I have been onboard this from the moment Jonny posted the interview with Shakey Byrne. I am a Motorcycle guy that loves cars, So, naturally this is my favorite channel. Shane and Jonny, this is just better than it should be. Like, this could be done way worse, and I would probably still watch it. ;)

great review. I can't wait to jump back onto a bike, true petrol head that's waiting to afford a first EV car and eventually a bike. The scene can only get better from here with more chargers, better range on batteries and some stunning vehicles coming through in 2 and 4 wheels.

Watching that launch control I was thinking "well that's going to be an accident!" fair play he knows how to handle a situation like that; he didn't even seem phased by it...he's a grade A nutter, perfect for reviewing bikes on this channel! Jonny's a lucky boy to have such a capable and interesting friend to help him do these reviews. MORE PLEASE :P this channel is golden.

I had the pleasure of meeting Shakey numerous times when I was a sports photographer and whether on the grid, or on the pits or out and about in Kent he was always just so straight forward, chatty and accommodating, some of my best pics were of him pushing the bike to the absolute limit as he pushed towards the finishing line and I will always be grateful to him for that as it pushed my photography skills to the limit lol 😂 Fantastic addition to the channel!!

I'm 68-years-old and have had a lifetime of ICE vehicles, I am SO over internal combustion engines. I've had everything from an Austin Healy Sprite to a `68 Shelby GT500 to an S2000, I currently have a Tesla Model 3 and it often makes me laugh spontaneously at how much fun it is. Instant torque is pretty addicting.

Currently in the process of purchasing a Livewire, haven’t ridden motorcycles since I was a kid on my brother’s RM80. So I know I can ride but won’t be looking for the clutch like a lot of riders. I consider the sportster S but since I had an injury in both wrists before I think the ride would be smoother riding the Livewire. Actually I do remember 10 yrs ago riding a friend’s bike around the block a few times and the vibration put my wrists in pain. Hence why I’m getting the LW. Thank you for a great video I’ve been absorbing everyone’s vast knowledge on bikes. Here on YT, i is very much appreciated 🙏🏼.

Catching up with the latest episode of Byrne Out.
Oh my goodness, did not disappoint! And when Shakey turned the traction control off it looked like it was going to throw him off ! Both bikes look beautiful, if I were to walk into a Harley Davidson showroom it would have to be the live wire for me. Just looked so much better on the road.
Would be great if Shakey could do a episode at the TT this year. First one since 2019! So much looking forward to it 🏍️

I ride an electric bike for work, and it's actually quite nice to cruise around town in near silence, without having to worry about all those gear changes. And because you're riding in silence, you can actually talk to pedestrians; "after you" "thank you" "you're welcome". Kinda makes it a pleasant experience all round. But the Live Wire is just way too expensive. Great video Jonny, and Shakey.

This was fascinating, as the owner of a Japanese V-Twin, I have been wondering about how electric bikes are going to go. I am not sure that I can ride a Harley though! 😁🤣

There's a guy on You Tube called Matt Laidlaw who is a Harley dealer in the US. He showed a Sportster S recently that had been Stage One'd. The exhaust note was a pleasant surprise in that, it sounded like a traditional Harley and I think the power was increased slightly too....

Cheers for the review Shakey! As someone who drives a Tesla Model S and owns a 2020 Speed Triple RS, I'm very very tempted to trade that, but would probably be for a Zero. The only thing holding me back at the moment, is the charging. It's fine with a Tesla, when you go on a road trip and need to charge, there's Superchargers everywhere. But the places I go on the bike around Connecticut, just don't really have chargers. So I'm potentially going to get stuck. Also I would really miss the sweet sound of the 1050 triple going through the arrows cans...

You can’t have the sound my friend unless you can put up with the antique tech.

Really enjoying shaky and Jonny together. Interesting section about the future and existing. Totally agree with the sound of that bike. How can It have two big exhaust like that and not sound like a Harley?😂 By the way, you probably know this, but I think you can get bike phone holders that don't shake 👍

Quad lock vibration dampener - it’s supposed to shake like that as it will remove the high frequency vibrations and prevent your phone camera stabilisation going kaput. The low vibrations cause it to shake- but won’t ruin the phone.

@@thekingoftwinkle thanks for the info. Can it be used on a mountain bike as well? I'm getting the same thing if you're going. Off-road

@@Android-vk8yh Yes will work… but you won’t need it as the vibrations on the mountain bike won’t cause issues with the phone.

Bikes are not my thing but an enthusiastic expert is always interesting. The skill and control that Shane has is wonderful to see. I test drove my first electric car yesterday. The acceleration is so smooth and always on tap. My only hesitancy is charging on the couple of long trips I take a year. As a daily use vehicle, the electrics just seem better.

Shakey? Yep! Undo own bolts by starting? Yep! vibey? Yep! but i like the older ones! and for me, from being a child when i first heard then spotted the Harley making that noise, that's what I like & wanted & love! For future generations and the good of us all, this'll do chap, this'll do.

Mr B presentation top notch! Nice one! I think I’d rather have an iron 883 and bumble along . It’s the last old school new build classic available.

I love my Iron 883, my first bike and it’s great at putting a smile on your face enjoying the Kent A and B roads without losing your license 👍 what the Harley haters mock is it’s Sportster name, however it was a sports bike when launched to compete against the new Triumph Thunderbird, BSA Rockets and other Brit bikes in1957 and has a really successful competition history. I’d love a Panigale to take care of the other side of me though 😁

@@TheLateBrakeShow I will. It's shocking (hahah SWIDT?) how far behind the Japanese manufacturers are with electric 'bikes. I took a ride on a Zero DSR recently, it was fantastic. But (and it's a big "but"), I can't charge where I live (and Denmark's charging infrastructure is utter rubbish outside cities) so EVs are not on the cards for me right now :( I had to sell my i3 for this reason alone :( (I am still sadness)

I’ve had an electric bike for over two years and I’ll never go back. I thought I’d miss the sound and vibration but without those two things distracting you you’re left to focus on your ride and your surroundings and not just your bike. It’s a completely different sensation like flying and I find that I’m more relaxed and aware of what’s going on around me. As far as looks go, is it as cool looking as a Harley? Probably not by most people’s standards, but who buys a bike based solely on it’s looks (besides a Harley rider)?
