      @@LeonTodd When I think of the cash I don't spend on outboard and the time I don't spend integrating every new thing or tone and dialing it in because it's all already in the one big box...it's kind of a deal. They're around and actually less costly in the US than abroad by half sometimes. I've had my eye on a few for a while, along with some other choice things - I mean, doesn't everyone want to build their own physical tone library if audio performance/production is something they enjoy? Thanks for your content too, I've also learned a lot from your channel and nobody's making you do it in the way you do. Quality production that isn't something you have to slog through to find what you are trying to learn or experience doesn't simply appear out of thin air; it's a LOT of time consuming tasks to do properly. For whatever reasons, people don't seem to mention that in their content/creator praise/banter/chat but it's the HARDEST part of the role for most people (if you love doing post edit, etc, man you are gonna be busier than an accountant who enjoys reading tables of numbers as leisure) and no matter what portal I'm consuming from at the time it seems there's not enough mention of the work involved.
      Yeah, I know, word salad. But I put things where I can when I think they get seen because everyone's flooded who has any sort of success On The Internet and they can delete my little bit of content if they don't enjoy it. :-)

    Great demo Michael. When I bought my Friedman Smallbox I thought that nothing could ever touch it or even come close but then I acquired my Rivera Rake and, while I’m not going to say it’s better, it completely blew my mind. Less mid bite than the Smallbox but killer smooth distortion. It’s such a versatile amp too with the great clean side and all of the frequency options. Fun fact, when I was looking to buy my first 4x12 cabinet back in the mid 90s I answered an ad in the Washington Post and drove out to Baltimore to pick it up. When I got there it had Asian characters and the name Saigon Kick spray painted on it and the guy told me that it belonged to the guitarist and was being sold off for some reason. I don’t have that cab anymore but what a small world.

      Rivera Jay Graydon model? Interesting👍. I had a Rivera Fandango head with the “Jake the Rake” mod. Very nicely built amp. (I remember it “Smelled Good, lol) like candy or something?) My big regret was using V-30 speakers
      instead of the G12-T75’s that Paul recommended😔........I really missed out on what that amp had to offer. But it was 2003? .........and V-30’s were king......and no one could convince me otherwise🙄..........

    • @drewbarries
      @drewbarries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought it after the limited run had sold out but my Sweetwater rep put me in touch with Paul and he built me another 😎. I didn’t opt for the matching cab because I couldn’t afford it at the time and so wound up using my 4x12 loaded with UK made V30s 😂 I loved it though and still do however I’ve scaled back a bit and am going through a Two Rock 1X12 open back lately. Hey one more thing that you may appreciate, Paul was such a great guy to work with, he even included NOS Siemens EL34s at no additional cost, I love those so much that I bought another matched pair through Mesa, those are still in the box but ready to go.

    This was great! Thanks Michael! I was an early TBR-1SL adopter back in the late 80's.....Killer clean tones, but I didn't jive with the gain tones at the time, and I have always wanted to get another one to have another go at it.......Killer concept with the 4 rack-spaces, stereo power and the P-Comp, pre-loop, etc.....It was ahead of it's time for sure! :)

Don't fall down the Bogner hole bro lol they made a lot of preamps in a lot of stuff that's pretty accessible, cash-wise, and they all have pre-out. Roscoe p Coltrane this is a stereo amp too, not sure if he mentions that I haven’t gotten all the way through the video. I had one for 25 years it had eight 6550 power tubes four per side. I recently sold it but what I should’ve done is sold those tubes by themselves they were General Electric and then sold The amplifier. The M 60 and M100 are a mono version of this and it had the same preamp as the TBR.

    Rivera amps are amazing. They still have rack mount amps. I have the rack mount Venus Recording with built in Rockcrusher. The Venus Recording has a 6 position midrange voicing switch plus the regular midrange knob. It gets that same metal sound but does a ton more also. So many features on it. It also has the brilliant clean sounds but they’re on channel 1 now and channel 2 does everything from low gain blues to super high gain metal. The Venus Recording is only 25 watts though switchable to 7 watts class A. 6V6 power tubes and 5 12ax7 preamp tubes.

    I had one. The bottom always seemed flubby no matter what I did. I see yours is no different. Went back to my 50 watt JCM 800 and I was happy again. Lots of gain on tap with these and that was what I missed.

  • @t-boog2173

    The SD1 & high output pickups is how I combat the flubby low end on my Marshall DSL. If I play straight to the amp with my PAF style pickups, it's fart city at high gain settings. Heck, even with the SD1 & hot pickups, it's still not as chunky as I'd like but that killer Marshall tone is well worth the compromise.

      @GearBoxTy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which Marshall DSL do you have? I have a JCM2000 DSL50 and it has a beautiful, tight low end. Maybe that is because I am running it into a 1936 cabinet with a Vintage 30 and G12H-75 Creamback \m/

      @@GearBoxTy Hi Ty. I have a DSL40c combo. And I'm pretty sure the speaker isn't my problem because I own two great 4x12 cabs and it sounds just as flubby thru those when set to high gain Any advice is appreciated though.

      @@TL-angzarr Hi TL. Sory, I meant a Boss SD1 overdrive not a Super Dist pickup. My pickups(for high gain stuff) are Gibson Dirty Fingers. So yeah, the SD1 cuts the lows a bit like a Tube Screamer(which I also have). And the hot pickups not only help tighten the lows but their higher output combined with the SD1 output allows me to back off the amp gain a little. It's kinda like the Zakk Wylde approach... Hot pickups + SD1 + Marshall. That's prob why he uses 300 watt spkrs. To keep the low end as tight as possible.

      Done With It just in case you are referring to the M 100 or M 60 by Rivera they basically the same amplifier as the TBR the preamp’s are the same it’s just a mono power section. I owned the TBR and the M60.
      Paul Rivera Junior told me they are the same preamps.
      Maybe some of the difference you’re hearing is some coloration from the Power Station attenuator and the IR’s.
      These amps could take a wide variety of different power tubes as well mine was 160 W per side with GE 6550s eight in total. The M60 ran EL34’s so there’s a lot of variables anyway…

    Nice demo!
    Back in the day, I lusted after a TBR, but it was unobtainium financially. The TBR weighs 50 pounds by itself, then you have to add in the weight of the rack, and a cab (two if you wanted stereo). Impractical for a guy like me (no road crew), but I wanted it.

      The TBR-1 was the first thing I ever bought on credit. I toured with it in the late 80's and did not have a roadie. It was worth it. I would love to have another go at one today.

      Michael James I had one of these for 25 years and just remember that Paul Rivera went to work at Fender and redesigned a whole bunch of their amplifiers in the late 70s so he knows his fender tones and the clean sounds on this and almost all Rivera amplifiers are very authentic they sound just like a Fender but there’s more control because of all the knobs.
