I sent Ivey a friend request couple years ago. To my delight he eventually messaged me after some comments back and forth and got to know a touch of my story and next thing you know I have an autographed book in the mail. Free. Never asked me for a cent. Checks in on me regularly, he’s a friend for real and I’ve never even met him. Yet. This dudes hero material
I remember when me and Don Richards (Trainer of Myles Jury) were on the same fight team (Metro) and I warned Don about Ivey's kneebar. He blew me off. Ivey won by kneebar. He was training with a Sambo world champion and some of the best leg lockers in the US at the time and couldn't be bothered to listen to some scouting. Oh well.
I see he drinking his favorite ice coffee at the beginning of the podcast lol…. Johnathan Ivy is a really great friend to have and I taught him some fighting moves that’s why he is the leg lock monster lmao I’m kidding
This guy is an exciting fighter but somehow a more exciting interview. Someone needs to get him on their broadcast/commentary team. A real truth teller.
Awesome interview! Ivey is so well spoken! Ivey is a legend! He’s mad about that lady banning for not listening to the ref but didnt he fake a heart attack in that same fight? Also the Dixson fight used to make me wonder how he got hip tossed into an armbar soo easy. I thought something seemed fishy
Would love to have seen him fight Tank, I'm surprised he didn't get fights in Pride as they would have loved his look/personality. I think Ivey vs Butterbean would have been great too!
@@LytesOutMMAHistoryYeah he definitely could have had some fun fights in Pride/K1, I think he would have beaten Butterbean but I don't doubt that they wanted that 10 second ground rule. Butterbean fought Professional Wrestler Aaron Aguilera who was making his MMA debut and the rule was you could only be on the ground for 15 seconds.
@@JohnathanIveymma Great to hear you on this podcast. Been a longtime fan, but ironically not while you were fighting. It all started after youtube came out and finding as many fights as possible. Always would see your name but could never find your fights back in the days of darkness, i mean UFCs were hard to find, as were pride, let alone all the other organizations.. Enjoyed your own channel too where you highlighted an number of your fights. I prefer the early era where fighters were doing whatever they could get a paycheck, "the "I come to fight" mentality was for men, not necessarily sportman of today. So suprised to find out in this podcast you really didnt have a wrestling background, as i figured that you had a good amature background and added in the leglocks. Glad you had fun in south america... :)
I'm the only person in these comments that will know what you mean by that bruh ❤️ Thanks for checking out the video. These dudes got great content and deserve to blow up. #Nobody
Ivey has some of the most entertaining highlights out of any MMA fighters
Leg Lock monster! Happy to call him a good friend.
