i mean, 90% of Pokemon TCG channels, including this one, are about investing and how to make as much money from selling Pokemon cards as possible. You don't have "How I made $1 million dollars from Pokemon cards" as a video and not be contributing to the problem. EVERYONE, except for competitive players, is trying to make money from this.
@@alexrhee3360 Yeah I mean thats nothing new its just more prevalent now since sports investors and other types of traditional investors are now into Pokemon as well
The sad thing is the only way to beat the scalpers is to not pay their prices. But the way the hobby is right now, there’s always someone willing to pay.
Collecting cards without playing is just useless. If you like the pokemon or arts, print them. If you wanna play, print. Once prices are ok, go ahead and buy the stuff
yea.. i told you from the start how excited i was for this set but now i don't even know if i'll be able to have enough products available to even enjoy opening and collecting. the amount of money this set jumped to is beyond wild
@@ShinyVert I got inside info for you. And you too pokemania. Idk if you guys know. But at 7 am pst when prismatic releases the 17th. Pokemon center is restocking etb’s. Should try to pick some up? I will for sure
It's going to be very hard for most folks to get anything from the stores with as high as the scalper problem has been lately. If you didn't already preorder, then expect to pay an arm and leg to get Prismatic.
It’s definitely not fun to open anymore, you always just feel like it’s not even worth it. I’m all for product growing and becoming more valuable overtime. But we’re at a point in the hobby where you can’t get your hands on any sort of product if you’re a normal person. It doesn’t make it fun for anybody who’s actually just trying to enjoy the hobby, open cards, and have a good time. And this is coming from somebody with a massive sealed collection. I love the value aspect of it, I love collecting, but I also love money. But it’s gotten way out of hand
"It's only a problem when other people invest, but it's okay when I do it and keep a huge sealed collection because I love money". Don't sugar coat it, you don't actually care about other people having fun and opening product, you care about your ability to get more sealed product, and as the competition increases, it gets harder for you.
im browsing the market for good fake cards now and buy boosters for 50cent each .... just for the fun of opening boosters :'D Cant afford those 10€ boosters ... im not rich
The last time "investors" pushed out the casual consumer, was Beanie Babies. We all know how that ended. Buyer beware for anyone who is "investing" at these scalped prices. This bubble is going to pop hard. I'm going to sit out some sets and hopefully things will be back to normal by summertime.
Not to be rude but I don't think the Beanie Baby comparison works. Pokemon is hitting this level nearly 30 years in. Not saying there won't be a pullback as markets never go up and to the right forever (Pokemon pulled back after the COVID hype boom), but I don't see how it happens by summer when Rocket English only comes out in May, Black and White after that, maybe Mega after that. I don't see prices going back where they were for a long time, and perhaps never back to starting MSRP for these highly sought after sets. Not saying it's a good thing but I think it's where we are.
@vestclan yeah but it's quickly and surely getting to a point where the casual consumer is completely pushed out. People will only be willing to drop money at those prices for so long. It's ALWAYS bad when the average consumer is pushed out. It will hurt the actual tcg game, it will hurt the franchise as a whole. Nvidia and Sony felt the effects of scalpers and did something to rectify it. Nintendo will eventually have to do the same.
@@insomniackiller1 I agree that no doubt it’s bad. Especially long term. I was more just stating that I wouldn’t bank on a crash or a complete death of the hobby like beanie babies. I’m certainly hoping we can go back to normal at some point as I collect the cards with my kids for fun but even when that happens, and the sooner the better, I think some sets will maintain a premium price.
I know Pokemon is booming .. because I’m in my mid 30s and basically snuck home from work today to use my computer because the PC website wouldn’t load on my phone. I felt like a kid again making these kinds of decisions lol
The hype and over priced cards for a hyped card form a set. People started hyping up the moon umbreon and noticed how the recent set had an umbreon and the hype started? This is sneaker hype beasts all over again with pokemon cards. Blame those in the hobby hyping up a card and paying thousands for mid cards 😂
As odd as it sounds, it's oddly comforting (likely wrong word so sorry if it is lol) that popular TH-camrs arent getting Prismatic or these newer sets either like us normies. It really does show how absolutely insane this market is. Hot take but I think Rocket will pop the bubble haaaaaaaard cause it will be so expensive.
Not it won't. We've got 30th Anniversary next year. This is going to get bigger and bigger. Next year will be huge. This will not calm down for 2 years at the very least.
I bought a case of Prismatic Evolutions ETB's for 53$ a box (which is a good price in my country). Since then the price has doubled and being a set collector, I already fear what this will do for single prices. At this point, I am considering just selling the case of ETB's, double my money and take a break from the hobby for a while.
I got my PC ETBs in, luckily, but it took them a half hour to send me confirmation of my order, and it had me sweating. As for Prismatic, I'm not ready. I got two PC ETBs, 2 gift boxes, and a full display of mini tins. Outside of that I only want 2 of each product. One to rip and one to keep sealed. Is that asking for too much? We are seeing the biggest degenerates for sure. People have lost their minds. Civilization needs to take a step back and stop paying these crazy scalpers.
I have a feeling this set is over hyped and when it release it will go down in value a lot But I personally believe we haven’t seen the worst. The next TCG set, the leaked black and white set, might be the way way more worse than this…
There is a influx of not just collectors but players after tcgp, I am a mtg player and I saw a appeal after playing it which leads me to believe collecting the entire pokedex is the mission, not only that the chances are better for value, in mtg its more rip to play, pokemon is rip for money cause prices are astronomical on cards alone
I think the boom of TCG pocket increased eyes on physical cards so it’s harder than ever to get product due to competition. I’ve been a casual collector since childhood but really got back into it since vivid voltage. There were hard to find moments like hidden fates, 151, shining fates, and evolving skies but usually preorders were available. The only way I’m able to get what I want is by purchasing singles on the release week when inventory is high but I feel like even that is getting out of hand.
Rushed to place my order limit of just the 2 etbs expecting the the site to have stock issues if I took time adding more items to cart. After placing the order, it wasn’t just stock issues. The whole site crapped itself. Grateful to have locked in an order, but it really is some crazy times.
Managed to get 2 PC ETB’s for the sealed collection and preordered 3 BB’s just in case something crazy happened and lo and behold it did. Hobby’s nuts right now. Almost don’t even wanna bother checking stores on release anymore
i dont think theyve done below 6 order limit on preorder booster boxes but they did have silver tempest limited to 1 a couple months ago. also i beleive the prismatic pc etbs started at 4 per person then went to two per person for a couple hours.
like how are we ever supposed to compete with scalpers when they are equipped with checkout bots that instantly buys something for them when an item is in stock. and im not paying a monthly fee to join those clowns either. but everytime i get a notification x has been restocked, and its already all gone.
I was on the pokemon center checking too see if prismatic happened too restock and then i see this set pop up and i got 2 PC etb's and 4-5 Sleeved packs. The booster bundles were sold out in seconds!!
This is the first PC ETB I wasn't able to get... Pretty devastated since the only cards I really collect are the pokemon with their trainer type of cards.
shouldnt be an issue trading ur $700 prismatic etb's for whatever you like! 1 more step up and u become a scalper. just be happy with what u get as a fan of the cards.
All I wanna do is collect cool cards and start master sets for crown zenith and some of my fav pokemon. I can’t even do either right now because of how expensive things are and I can’t even collect cool and new cards with how fast everything goes and with the site being shit. Hoping for some good crown zenith restock soon cause I can’t with this resell
Yeah the majority now sells instanly their pre orders(cause they don't even want to collect or hold on them, even less rip packs) They should let people sell pre orders before the release date and without having the product in their hands. Plus people should buy into stupid over cost prices this resellers flippers ask for, like they are just making them do that even more. Unfortunately theres lots of people that pay absurd prices when not even years have pass. And yes they should limit stuff you can get again on walmart and any big store like since surging lol :'( They should do it that this person can only get one or two of this product for these amount of time or have a control on how many people buy lol
And people should take tcgplayer prices on pre orders seriously like theres very few people who list pre orders and theres ton of people that have ton of money and just spend it like nothing.
Yeah Pokemon is going to get put back away. Maybe I will grade my old base set cards I found but buying new packs is no longer interesting with the way people treat pokemon. Onto something better.

Pokemon TCG is just Robots vs. Scalpers at this point.
Yeah pretty wild I wander who won that battle ? LoL like the cloned pokemon vs real ones in the evolution movie but real life.

Great title for a TH-cam video
Cardboard should have a preorder option just like video games have. But instead it’s worse than using Ticketmaster to get Taylor Swift tickets.

This is the least fun era right now. I love/miss early SV era.
Me too…this past summer, I got so much good product for good prices. I really enjoyed it then, but now it’s too expensive and too stressful :(
The early SV was still hard to find tbh. It’s been this bad since hidden fates with peaks and valleys in between.
