M. P. I love Mr. Sheeler's style, BUT Peter Sheeler's lines still convey that confidence that Liron is referring to - This is a very weak point for me personally, and I am going to try this approach.
I've learned that holding the pen/pencil properly is important for making long, straight lines. It's been my experience that holding it further down towards the "eraser" end and not toward the "lead" end is more controllable. It takes some getting used to. Don't hold it the way you would if you were writing words.
Yes, there are several ways of going at it. I think everyone should experiment with what works for them (: I sometimes have an easier time staying close to the tip, even when making long lines. But sometimes (perhaps at some angles) I'll switch to the grip you describe.
Dude i found a way for me where mindlessly making straight lines free handed. It ended up getting me attention because apparently its not the easiest thing. And it just happens a lot to me
Just started doing this yesterday and I love it. I love how quickly the lines show. It takes away the time of darkening etc, but is replaced with risk etc, which, like you said, calls for boldness and courage. Pen seems to ask the same things of me that I want to improve on in watercolour: being loose and brave on the first go. Thanks for the advice!
I started sketching with pen because I got cataracts and couldn’t see the pencil. I love it and I got the cataracts removed. Still love the pen. You just have to go for it and everything turns out surprisingly well.
I started doing this about a year ago and it's one of the best things I've done to improve! Agree 100 %! I sometimes even go a step further and sketch only with a pentel brush pen for a week straight! Brush pens are a great way to increase hand dexterity quickly.
Never thought about it before... I'm so used to precise line art. That you use pencil first. I prefer this better though! much more natural.. Very good helpful thoughts!
Your drawing skills are just amazing.😎 You make drawing in pencil (when you do sketches for watercolor) look so easy. I'm new to your channel and looking forward to going back to some of your older videos that I noticed are drawing tutorials. I do love how pencil shades, but I'll try pen. I have noooo experience with cross hatching, so that will be fun to learn. I also love the concept of pointalism/stippling and wanna try that as a pen/ink shading technique. Alphonso Dunn uses that sometimes. He's soooo amazing, also! You 2 are my drawing/sketching idols 👨🎨hehe Oh, can't forget Crilley hehe Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and advice on this topic. 👍
Wow - thank you so much and welcome to the channel 😊🙏🏼 I grew on on Mark Crilley's channel, and I absolutely love Alphonso's work. In terms of pen and ink, it's one of the BEST channels out there. So happy to have your support 🙏🏼🙏🏼🎨
I do that a lot! Check out this video (: th-cam.com/video/7YyU2o25jXc/w-d-xo.html But if you refer to sketching linearly only, here is a good one (links directly to the relevant exercise - #2): th-cam.com/video/UN-XnKQ17I0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=e1JH5oelh4JMuhXd&t=93
Bro I have the same hat. For me is hard cause of adhd and it has to be perfect than I mess it up. Thanks for heads up not to worry much and relax. Cheers and love from Bosnia ❤
THE REASON THAT I USE A BALLPOINT PEN TO SKETCH IS THAT I SPEND NO TIME ERASING WHAT I HAVE DRAWN. IF I SCREW UP, I EITHER MAKE A FEW ADJUSTMENTS TO MY STROKES OR I LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS AND ADJUST MY SKETCH ACCORDINGLY. WHEN I USED A PENCIL AND AN ERASURE, I SPENT WAY TO MUCH TIME ERASING WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRAWING. BEING A BEGINNER, I HAVE HAVE DRAWN MORE SKETCHES WITH A PEN THAN I COULD HAVE WITH PENCIL AND ERASURE. THANKS TO THE PEN I AM GETTING PROGRESSIVELY BETTER WITH EACH SKETCH I DO. WHO KNOWS, IN ANOTHER YEAR OR SO AND A SKETCH DAY, I JUST MAY BE ABLE TO DRAW SOME GOOD LOOKING CARTOONS AND BACKGROUND. AHAHAHA AHAHAHA LOL!
I love sketchy lines. Peter Sheeler is fantastic at it.

Peter is indeed a master of pen work (:
I love how he approaches sketching. His style works great with the paints that follow.
I don't know why ,but my drawings come out a hundred times better with a pen,no erasing, very few if any mistakes. Love the pen !
Can totally relate! (:
im guessing its because you know the ink cant be erased, so u put more effort not making mistakes idk

I love Teoh's style and how he incorporates those pen lines with watercolor!
Yes, it's indeed beautiful (:
He has amazing skills at simplifying complex scenes.

Exactly what I needed.... wanting to start with pen..... Todah
So happy to hear, thank you ^_^

That's a great way to build on top of that!
I saw some people that work only in brush + watercolor, and no pencil. Could be interesting to try.

Happy to hear this helps, thank you (:
Yes!! I've doing it for years!!
I started doing that in my last year of college. Sketching with pen was a lot more satisfying I thought.
Yes, something about the immediacy and boldness of it (:
I enjoy your videos so very much!! Love from Mexico!
Thank you! (:
Hope to visit one day, I hear it's an amazing place from friends.
wise words

I don't know.. basic simple guidelines seem very nice to keep in pencil
I would like to take some online classes if u still do just to learn about concentration and few more things. Pls let me know.
drawing in ink means commitment
Indeed, it's what I like 🙂
for even more commitment, use a dip pen and an ink bottle ;) tee he he.
ok imma start sketching with pen from now on!!
I hope you enjoy it! (:
I hope the same
Love the video, and realized that your face would be perfect for an over exaggerated drawing
Indeed (: Thank you
I trust artists with Latin accents
RLiron, I don.' t think oi are verbose at all. Mary Toronto
Thank you 😊🙏🏼 I’ll keep talking then 😉
Love this but I am too faint of heart.
Haha, then you would benefit the most out of it (;
