I used to do this when I was a kid too! If you run out of ideas for "goofy shapes", you can always start with a recognisable shape, like the letters of the alphabet. It's really good practice and it's more obvious when you mess up because you can't read it 😆. And later on, it can come in handy for all sorts of occasions.
I start all my practice sessions this way. I have been doing this since I was a kid, as well. Like the others, I used to do it with the alphabet, then cans and boxes, then buildings. I used to turn the flashlight on things to see where the shading and shadows went. Very good technique and lesson for anyone who has a hard time with this. :)
In high school did these 3D shapes so much but having to practice again as never looked how the lines met up. Seems hard at first but doing it over & over thank to your teaching. The box hardest 😊.
wow could not comprehind 3d drawing but in twenty minutes im already seeing a inkling of what it takes i do decks remodeling etc and to be able to show the customer a decent drawing can really help them and me cant wait to get more time to learn more
This is so cool and helpful! I've always doodled boxes, cylinders and letters of the alphabet, but the irregular shapes and holes, plus shading, will really open things up for me. Great exercise ~ thank you!
Great exercises, so good for times when you don't know what to draw, or you're feeling deflated, like me! I just drew a heavy horse running and showed it to my husband. He burst out laughing. He thought it was fat. 🤣 Cruel, too cruel!
i remember i used to draw a lot of 3D shapes when i was a kid i back when i was 10 years i would spend hours drawing shapes and i could even draw complex shapes that were from my own imagination now I'm sad i stop because if i was actually learning to draw this is the fundamental of drawing
I envy your gift! How amazing it must feel to be able to draw anything you see so well. Thanks for teaching us. I found out that drawing (even @ a beginners level) is very satisfying and zen like.
Question: I'm having a hard time rotating 3d objects and making them look like a 3d object, what should I do?
Did find the answer after 3 yrs ?

can you please slow down a littttlee while going through the techniques?
Haha sorry about that! I go a little slower in newer vids on the topic (:
I did this when I was younger and still do. It's much easier than most of the other techniques I've tried in the past. This was an interesting video.
You are the best
Thank you 😊

Thank you for this! You explained the shadow direction so simply I can now understand it. It has confused me for such a long time.

Haha 😂😂
Yes! I used to do this in class when I was bored 😛
But somehow I got good grades 😅

Very good and helpfull thank you so much for this video, I hope I learn how to draw shapes from imagination
This proves that everything complicated is based on a very simple foundation
Is your name actually liron
Yes haha 😂 It’s a very common name here. It translates as something like “I’m happy”, or “I have happiness” (:
It makes sense to you but really confused me further you are not explaining any theory but assuming we think like you
I used to do this in grade school!! I'd forgotten and you refreshed my memory! 😂😂😂 Easy Peasy! Thank you so much!!
Haha so cool! I thought it was only me 😂😂
Thanks for the help! This was very simple and easy to understand. You also remind me of Ben Platt 😂
Saying you invented this is like saying you invented drawing.
Didn’t I? 😂🧐

YES! Thank you & welcome aboard 😊🙏🏼
BRO, I LEARNED BY MYSELF WHEN I WAS 6, NOT TOO LONG AGO. YOU KNOW WHAT!? I SHOULD HAVE PATENTED IT.
I envy your gift! How amazing it must feel to be able to draw anything you see so well. Thanks for teaching us. I found out that drawing (even @ a beginners level) is very satisfying and zen like.
