I have got back into doodling and sketching because of Covid. Great therapy! I have bought a range of drawing pens as well as fountain pens. Love those. But I find myself going back to my Bic ballpoint a lot. Love that you can shade like a pencil!
That Bic Stic and the Bic Cristal are my fave sketching pens!! They are sooo smooth for a ball point. The cristal 1.6mm is just so fun to draw with that big ball an they come in a pack with a handful of awesome colors! I've seen people make crazy impressive art with just one of these cheap Bic pens.

Yes. I used to have a rainbow pen during my childhood😄 In that time, I don't know that it is a really useful thing. Now I'm worrying that I should have used it in a right way. Loved your tips so much. Really useful. Thankyou so much 🥰
Great video. Ballpoint is a great medium that only a small corner of the art community seems to use, and no one talks about. Keeping a scrap paper nearby is a great tip. I can be used for working out a stroke or, more importantly, blotting your pen so you don't blob ink on your drawing. My favourite ballpoint to use is the Bic Cristal. It has a good ink flow, few skips and I can shade and draw lines that are barely visible to very dark. Pencil and Ballpoint are my two favourite drawing tools. My every day kit is a kneaded eraser, my pencil, a 4-in-1 pen with black, red, green and blue and a 4-in-1 with orange, yellow, purple and pink. These are always in my pocket.

I, too, have found that ink seems to be my preferred medium BECAUSE of the 'finality' of the strokes that used to turn me off from experimenting with it. I actually love the feeling and idea of always being locked in with 'moving forward' no matter what you end up with on the paper. Plus I find that I love the b&w (or other two-tone) contrast more than anything. Color confuses and distracts me in creating so much. Dealing with linework primarily + scribble techniques has been such a wonderful time now that I've dove in. I definitely learned to practice things on scratch paper though, when I have a deliberate idea to practice on first.
I've been experimenting with a pencil and a black Flair pen. Talk about unforgiving! But you can use pressure with the pen to lighten and darken, to an extent. This helps a lot to get over the hesitancy many of us artists feel.
Your filling the sketchbook video in which you also gave us tips on how to improve your art. That video helped me soo much. I'm starting to sketch with ballpoint pens,and these tips were super helpful..I never wanted to draw with a pen because you can't erase any mistakes,but I've found with a pen you can sketch over the mistake and make it look like it's part of the sketch 😊

Oil over acrylic? The old masters didn't do that either. And so on. I realize that I - as a self-taught painter - have imposed a completely obsolete rigor on myself. Thank you for your refreshing way, which hopefully gradually frees me from my thinking prohibitions!
Big yes to your tip number 2! I always keep a scrap of paper beside me, but so I can test out maybe a new technique or texture before commiting it to my drawing. 🙂

Thats crazy because I love drawing in pens aha. I love doing line sketches like yours, almost like a unfinished sketch. It’s weird because I only like to sketch faces. You are amazing ! This help a lot. I love drawing but I stop for awhile. I can watch you draw in this speed for hours aha! So soothing !
I learned to paint with a ballpoint pen because at the time I didn't have the money to buy art supplies. Nowadays, in addition to mastering this practice with a ballpoint pen, I noticed that colored pencils, among other materials, have become super easy to control the intensity with your hands thanks to the custom of painting with the pens...
I do these techniques and it still doesn't come out how I'd like. Luckily, I can always learn with the help of videos like these. Great art and wonderful tips!
