    Question: What kind of pilot training is required to fly a light jet? I assume it would be a little less training than a commercial airliner? What about the flight hours?

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      All aircraft that weigh over 12500 lbs (and jets) require a specific type-rating in that specific aircraft. The HondaJet is a very simple jet in terms of its operations but the course is still, I think, 18 days long. But it's a grueling 18 days and requires a minimum of 1000 hours of flight experience. Airliners are bigger, more complex, older and, are being flown under a much more arduous set of rules. Their initial aircraft training classes are over a month long to my knowledge but there's probably a week or more of time spent on non-aircraft related things like, "Company rules." Ultimately, is it easier to become a HondaJet pilot than an airline pilot...? Probably not. Is the training shorter...? Yes.

    its a testimate to the Garman G3000 in the Honda Elite, what a brilliant system. A smart consolidation of what would normally be exclusive to big boy commercial airliners. But for such a system to be matched up int the big boy flying Honda Elite, just perfection. Imagine what all this would be like in the forthcoming Honda Jet 2600!!!! If the Honda Jet wasnt already a game changer Imagine what the 2600 will do to the Private Light Jet market. It will sent shockwaves thru the buying industry in several categories both above and below since nothing is on the market anything near to what its proposed targets will meet.

    I wonder what the thinking was behind putting the PTT button in the glareshield. Seems an odd choice ergonomically of having to reach outward & upward for it. If you're hand flying in rough conditions, I would think find that button when you're bouncing around would be a kinda PITA. Oh - and thanks for posting the flight.

      tda3fjr So there’s three PTT buttons on each side. Six total. One on the Mic, one on the glareshield and then one on the armrest right where your hand goes. I like the armrest one the most but on the glareshield you actually squeeze it with your thumb (if I remember correctly) so it’s great in turbulence.

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In my opinion, they are a great jet. The operating envelope is quite large so it works for a wide range of missions. Removing the cost of the aircraft from the equation (which you really can't do) for the speed, passenger load, range, and safety features, I don't think the HondaJet really has a direct rival. It fits perfectly in between a Phenom 100 and a Phenom 300 and for a lot of people, the 100 is too light / small and the 300 larger and more expensive than necessary. That said, you can do a lot with $5 million on the used jet market too!

    With all due respect, "No, that's not a plane you want to get, it's new and we just don't know enough about it" is strikingly bizarre response for a professional aircraft acquisition consultant. Heck, I'm no pro but know that corporately Honda never brings ANYTHING to market that hasn't been exhaustively tested beyond belief, and this is a JET, not a Civic. I've seen their display at airshows and NBAA's for years before the first one was sold, how is it possible not to know anything about it, much less tell a client not to get it?! Interesting...

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      With all due respect back at ya; general rule of thumb is that you never want to own the first 100 serial numbers delivered on a newly certificated aircraft. Especially one from a new manufacturer (of aircraft) that took a decade to certify it. Seeing a display at NBAA doesn't speak to the build quality, production standards, reliability or, most importantly, the aircrafts' support network. Not just in terms of service (which is somewhat limited) but parts supply, AOG support and engines. There is so much new and proprietary to the HondaJet that my reservations, even in hindsight, were merited and while most of them were put to rest at the factory, some still remain. I take the responsibility to spend $5.5 million dollars of my clients money on an aircraft very seriously and don't rely solely on advertising, media articles or expensive static displays to make the decision. It took a factory tour, a demo flight and first hand experience to get there and am happy to say that I learned a lot. That's what professionals do and that level of scrutiny is why we get hired.

      @@ChaseAviation the comment in the video irritating me too in the first step, the way you said it. Now with that closer answer in the comments it makes more sense to me to understand your point of the statement. It might be a factor to look at. In case of Honda Jet 🛩 I would not have most of the concerns you put on the list. Different to me to a smaller company close to the market right now with jets coming up. By now there are a lot of Honda Jets put out on sales and flying. So the jet makes sense and the market asked for this jet. I would do the step you did now with the Honda jet first, before I tell my clients not to go for this. Rather I would prefer to say: it might be a good idea, the jet is new to the market, let me check this out for you. I personally think its better to catch up to the main asked products on the market and knowing the skills about it, so I have chances to do optimized my business for my clients. But at the end of the story it’s good and positive that you are critical with new airplanes, but keep up on the front line, so you have the best chances for business. In my personal opinion. I know this is a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway for daydreaming purposes. If money wasn't the problem but also no previous flight experience, would it be possible to train from Day 1 to eventually be certified for the HJ. I realize it's multi engine and retractable landing gear so that requires a number of different certifications. Is this just too much and way too fast for a novice pilot?

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a stupid question. It wouldn't be impossible, just very difficult with high probability of burn out. There's so many practical test standards for private pilot check rides that almost couldn't be learned / taught in a business jet. That's best for a Cessna 172. For your instrument... totally doable and probably easier. For commercial, there again, PTS standards get in the way. (Ground reference in a Jet is tough!) And then the problem becomes finding a Designated Examiner that's typed and legal to give you check rides. As I type this I'm realizing that you wouldn't be able to solo since the plane requires a type rating to fly being over 12,500lbs (and a Jet) and that's a requirement for training. So essentially, no, you can't!

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ralph Freshour Hi Ralph. While I tend to agree, more range is always better, but for the category aircraft, I believe it has the longest range. There are definitely older, less expensive jets you can buy that have more range. They are just nowhere near as efficient and cost a lot more to operate.

    • @rfresh1011
      @rfresh1011 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chase Aviation Company that’s what kind of throws me for a loop. Honda says it’s the “most efficient” but never details what that means. Is it only in its fuel burn? It’s certainly not efficient in range. What other aircraft, in the Honda jet class, competes with it?

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ralph, the segment that the HondaJet is in is like a Cessna Citation CJ2. It’s much more than a Phenom 100 but is certainly no Phenom 300 in terms of seating capacity and range. The original production HJ (up to SN 126 I think) lacks an additional fuel tank that the Elite version has that pushes the range out to 1400nm. Very substantial and definitely class leading. I would tend to agree that it is the most “efficient” as well, mostly referring to its aerodynamic characteristics. The wings are completely seamless and have no rivets. I was the biggest skeptic of them all and was truly blown away.
