    First time that idiotic Star Wars toy blocks your vision from a plane coming at you, I bet it gets ripped off the dash and appropriately thrown quickly into the trash.

    Great video and to share. I am now in a difficult situation. How can we compare to an SR22T? there are only a few (TTX, Columbia in Brazil), so it is difficult to compare with an SR22T. speaking of performance, i think columbia seems to me to be much better and is also approved in another category, am i right?

      Jose, we should discuss more. Outside of the US, you should strongly consider the support aspect of your purchase. Meaning, what maintenance facility would be maintaining your eventual aircraft? Are they good with either the SR22 or TTX? Can they get parts quickly? On its own, I think the Cessna 400 is a superior aircraft in many ways... importantly, it's just more fun to fly! As much as I like it, if it's hard(er) or more expensive to keep in the air, it may not be your best option. Does that make sense?

      Would be very interested to hear how many hours you've been able to put on your IO-550. I'm hearing 600-1000 at most is typical in the TTX.

    VFR flight .... pilot stares inside the cockpit the whole time ... 11:20 violates VFR cloud cleared rules

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video makes it look like we're close to the clouds but truly we were well outside the horizontal minimums. We would not have cleared them had we kept going though and that's why we made the turn.

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s is about the same, maybe a little more. Much less support from the manufacturer and parts supply but Cirrus hasn’t been doing great at it lately either.

    Why did cessna stop making these?
    Thus thing could DIRECTLY COMPETE with the SR22 which is one of the most popular G.A. aircraft on the market.
    Big mistake, Cessna. Big.

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sure there's an "official story" out there but from what I gather, the 400 was just so expensive to build that their sales price would have continued to rise and be less competitive with Cirrus who already "owns" this market segment. The 400 is certified to Utility Category Standards which are much more rigorous but I think make it better, safer aircraft. They also don't need a parachute to get out of a spin!

    • @JordiFrio

    • @ParadigmUnkn0wn

      I would've at least picked up the ATIS to get the proper altimeter setting. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but ADS-B out relies on that, right? Hard to know how accurate the traffic warnings are if your plane doesn't know what altitude it's at. Other than that, it was a short VFR flight, and back in the day before ADB-S out was mandated you could fly VFR with literally zero instruments. Ultralights still do it all the time, and often those don't even have radios.

    how much does the fixed landing gear affect performance

    • @ChaseAviation
      @ChaseAviation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've always heard that, generically speaking, fixed gear cost something like an 8 knot penalty. It's hard to say for sure having not been involved in the engineering of the plane and, since there's no retractable gear version. But with as small as these gear are and as aerodynamic the wheel fairings are, the added weight, cost and maintenance requirements of retractable gear would decidedly not be worth whatever the speed improvement would be.

    • @ParadigmUnkn0wn
      @ParadigmUnkn0wn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It manages a ceiling of FL250 which it will easily get to and economy cruise of 170-180ktas on 13-16gph even at low altitudes as seen in this video. Not having that retractable gear saves tons of money on the annual and maintenance. Unfortunately it's still such a hot little plane that insurance is through the roof, just like a Cirrus. This is a dream plane right here.

      It's definitely similar in a lot of ways. The Columbia is a lot more fun to fly though. The side stick makes it a lot more intuitive and extremely smooth flight controls. It's also much better built and manufactured... because of that, more expensive to build and ultimately, why it's no longer in production. 😟
