I think there's almost this aura about the car that people think GTR = 1000bhp. Like you said also the stock GTR really isn't that quick, especially by today's standards. The urge for more power will lead every owner down a dark and expensive road. Firstly because the owners know that the car is capable of quite mad power but also there's like a pressure from everyone for it to be running some crazy BHP. One of the first things people ask me about mine is 'whats it running then?'. If I said '300' they'd be like oh.. my focus ST is running more than that. Lol.
I've heard it from many that have driven all in stock-ish form that the R32 is the raw, racecar experience of the 3, the R33 is the soft, grand tourer of the 3, and the R34 is the middle. That's what I take from these videos today, although that R33 is VERY modified. It all comes down to what you like the most. I like the raw R32 the most that's why I bought one and love it. The biggest problem with these cars is the constant desire to upgrade, (more power, better brakes, better suspension, ect.) which if you can fight these cars are very inexpensive to own.

My own favourite is the newer GT-R R35, just prefer the the overall look and styling compared to the previous generation, but there's no denying it is a great car, truly iconic.
You need an R32 GTR, the directness of the steering still makes it the best drivers car I’ve ever owned/driven. The best all round classic for everything was my old E39 M5 which is one of the best all round cars ever in my view.
Love the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. Crazy to see that within 10 years, Mitsubishi and Subaru would later be able to match this car’s AWD performance with their own Lancer Evolution and Impreza WRX STi.

Thank you for the three video's comparing the models. Ideally, it would have been nice to compare three stock models, but finding a stock R32, R33, or R34 is almost impossible ! I actually prefer the R32 myself.
I have never understood this idea. These cars designed to be modified. Increasing the power output was/is as easy as removing the restrictor which Nissan helpfully highlighted by putting a yellow ring around the hose with the restrictor in. Tamura-san (current GTR chief engineer) has an R32 which is modified.
@@CrisWoollacott because when you do a build it completely changes the characteristics of the car. It doesn't matter what the car is built for, the people in the market for these cars dont want to know what a car's characteristics in Johnny's vision are like. They want to know what they are starting with in base. Its like reviewing a painting that has been changed by the previous artist vs knowing what you were going to get originally.
@@KeenanStyles I would disagree. Should you review the cars with the original tyres on them or modern equivalents? They are imports so should be remapped to UK fuel. With a 30 year old car on original shocks are they performing correctly. Most have been driven for a while and had the rusty exhaust replaced, new tyres, different compound brake pads, perhaps had had some bushes replaced etc etc This is not a Ferrari which has only racked up 7000 miles throughout its life. Testing museum pieces is interesting but against Jay's stated goal of testing real cars which are driven. As long as these cars are representative of what is going on in the market place then they are a fair comparison. A super low mileage R32 in box fresh condition would cost many times more than the average car being sold. I forget the exact details but such an R32 was auctioned a while back for more than £100,000. Very different from the value which an R32 GTR usually commands. I think Jay has done an excellent job here the only criticism is that the R33 clearly was not 100% as noted in its review
@@KeenanStyles that's so B's though. Cause most people do the mods they you would yourself anyway. Which save you money. If you really want a stock one. Buy one. Remove all of its mods and return it to stock. But you wouldn't would you? Nobody does cause nobody really wants that, Cause these cars were made to be modded and are a much better experience when they are. To be honest when people think of these cars they think of the big power and loud sounds. Completely dead stock they sound kind of bland and a little boring. They're not even that fast stock either. I mean they aint slow. They go alright, kinda quick. But they're not what you think or expect.
Sounds as if you're saying it's the grown up version of the 3. If you really wanted a car like this, to bomb around the back roads but that you also pop down to the shops in or take the kids to school, the the R34 is the one. If you want a drivers car to throw about at the weekend, possibly on a track somewhere, then get the R32. It's a pity that you didn't get a 33 which you considered on an equal footing so that you could compare appropriately. From a silver lining pov, if the 33 is considered the worst in general, then values might not tend to the ridiculous for one. I imagine that it's by no means a bad drivers car 😉
Iconic is right the description for R34, but I could never justify paying circa 50k upwards more for one than say a B7 RS4. The US import market is making the prices of these 90's JDM cars silly for what they are ultimately.
@@ApothecaryTerry B7 RS4's have bottomed out value wise, provided they are maintained and mileage is kept in check they are only going to increase in value now. But that's the same for maintaining the value of any car without a nut & bolt rebuild, Skylines included.
@@stevenroach4955 The price range for B7s is still pretty wide, so the lower end of that may not go down much more (currently £12kish) but people are still asking >£20k for some and I'd be surprised if those don't drop a bit more yet. Not going to be a huge loss though, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the Nissans keep appreciating for a little while yet, at least the unmodified ones. Of course these are all cars that make up for their lack of depreciation with their running costs anyway!
I think the 34 is the worst looking when stock but then again they all look a bit weird with the stock wheels and ride height. Of them all though the 34 needs the most on the cosmetic side to look "aggressive" imo.
I got a R34 Gtt 25DET neo in my 1989 C33 Laural here in New Zealand on a China garret ,1000cc inj ,link storm, with a close ratio C33 RD28 diesel small box ,300hp at rear all day every day ,fries tires and driving licenses and burns alot of expensive juice ,using full injector capacity thats 6 litres a minute
People don't understand values. These cars are expensive for different reasons than performance or quality. They are expensive because they're automobilistic icons, rare cars in high demand. It's not like a Mercedes 300sl gullwing is fast. A new Golf would smoke it. These cars are, and will continue to be, connoisseur items that increase in price like an investment.
A 20 year old Nissan built on a economy car base with a performance trim that is overhyped because of movies, video games, and TH-cam videos shouldn't be anywhere near the same price as a low production super car that took 20 years to produce with a complex carbon weave in which 500 exist and being the only supercar to ever come out of Japan. Also being so expensive to produce to prove the capabilities of the manufacturer that they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars on each unit they made for the world. Fan boyism does not measure up to craftsmanship and a true work of art. The only reason this BNR34 is as expensive as it is, is because people are stupid honestly. Being an icon should require more than fan boying out over a forbidden fruit.
@@KeenanStyles i really get your point, but the R34 is the last of its kind, the last Skyline-based GT-R.. like a 993 Turbo S is the last air cooled Turbo 911. Of course a Z tune, or an M Spec Nur is going to be crazy money, aswell as a 993 GT2 is, due to the limited numbers and history of these cars. A regular R34 GT-R is not that expensive, way cheaper than an NSX of the same era, or even some manual Turbo MK4 Supras. My R34 is a GTT, which goes up in value as people who cannot afford R34 GT-Rs look for the next best thing look wise(not counting the 32 and 33 chassis, they are way less sought after.) A lot of japanese performance cars are based off of economy cars, but the GT-R is quite premium. A twin turbo 4wd 6 cyl engine platform is not cheap.
@@oscardominguez1680 if those people who cannot afford a BNR34 were smart they would go for a ENR34 but the fan base for the R34 is by far the most annoying fan base of any other car in the history of the community. Most don't even know non GT-R variants exist.

Like the video's, but it's not really a fair comparison seeing as all these cars have been modified. Good luck finding owners of decent stock cars willing to loan them out to you so i guess it's the best you will get. Would love to see a stock comparison or a comparison between cars with similar mods at least. Give the 33 another go once it's been finished off

Been waiting for someone to do this comparison. Very informative.. thanks!
Most have been driven for a while and had the rusty exhaust replaced, new tyres, different compound brake pads, perhaps had had some bushes replaced etc etc
This is not a Ferrari which has only racked up 7000 miles throughout its life.
I really hope you get to drive different variations of all the Skyline GTR's on this channel! Love your content.
Epic car. Gran Turismo dream absolutely. Shame they are so expensive now though.
It's amazing what a good set of wheels does for a car
Dream car!
On a side note, my first EVO 6 had 315 HP on the crank, stock..
That's impressive
@@callumbennett2013 Very surprised Indeed. Made smoll ignition and fuel tweeks and voila 355 HP
Always liked these gen skylines in Millennium Jade, great video as always Jay, absolutely loved watching your Skyline videos!
Beautiful car..💐
M(izuno)spec 🌹
these are great
Iconic is right the description for R34, but I could never justify paying circa 50k upwards more for one than say a B7 RS4. The US import market is making the prices of these 90's JDM cars silly for what they are ultimately.
There's a good chance the RS4 would lose you more money in depreciation though. These things aren't likely to lose much in value.
Legendary car with a legendary noise 👊great review as always 😃👍
Defo the r34 more refined than the other 2 all 3good cars though
Keep up the great content your vids are a joy to watch
The r32 is by far the best looking
Not keen on r34 it looks odd.... but nevertheless an awesome machine
Yeah you're right still looks awesome today
I think the 34 is the worst looking when stock but then again they all look a bit weird with the stock wheels and ride height. Of them all though the 34 needs the most on the cosmetic side to look "aggressive" imo.
Agreed.
I have a r35 but would so love a 34.
Real great content on this channel dude...keep 'em coming !
well done seats for holding you in.
One of our customers cars ( hey George ) 😂 car looks fab mate 👌 and great review jay !
@@furiousgta not a problem George was great to see yours shining way more than the other 2 you can just see yours had a proper detail before hand
You saved me some typing, thanks.
@@GoldenCroc had to be said :)
My R34 is a GTT, which goes up in value as people who cannot afford R34 GT-Rs look for the next best thing look wise(not counting the 32 and 33 chassis, they are way less sought after.)
A lot of japanese performance cars are based off of economy cars, but the GT-R is quite premium.
Loving the videos, Jay! Keep up the interesting old stuff, it's some of the best on youtube and a refreshing change from all of the wrap-my-pcp 'Ollie Higuys' out there 😂😂😂
There’s an M spec Nür for sale here in Australia for $600,000. Fetching crazy money nowadays!
Looks a lot better than the R32, especially inside with the leather seats. The dashboard is also vastly improved.
Fantastic review 👏
Awesome! The true legend!
Want to flex... get a 34
Love skylines... get a 33
Want to drive..... do it in a 32
Great reviews as always, i would love to see the other skylines compared, as these get ignored by everybody, the gts and gtt. Im very interested if these are also great cars.
cool vid man. how about checking out the Mitsubishi 3000gt/gto that was a cool car to behold. 4 exhaust tips on it like.. just looked damn mean and cool man. Hardly ever see them about now a days another favourite jdm car of mine tbh.
I've got a review on one coming out in a few weeks
Love your content. Very Nice reviews
Another good review. Please do continue to comment on the steering feel in cars you test. For me, at least, this is one of the most important traits in a car and determines how I view the car
He’s one of the best to judge steering feel as well, having owned and driven various Lotuses.
Great idea to run the same model across its production run.
As expected. Skyline and RX-7 were the best of the bunch as drivers cars without many modifications. ;-P
Fantastic review 👏 👌 👍 😀
It’s glorious..
Loving this!!!!!!
Like the video's, but it's not really a fair comparison seeing as all these cars have been modified. Good luck finding owners of decent stock cars willing to loan them out to you so i guess it's the best you will get. Would love to see a stock comparison or a comparison between cars with similar mods at least. Give the 33 another go once it's been finished off
Great job.
I hear skyline the 31 comes to mind :)
Awesome car....
But.... why don't the headrests actually support your head? Also... this over an original nsx? No chance.
R34 is special 😈
13:43 I would say it's more like a rectangle
If I hear the words "nice place to be" one more time..... it is a meme at this point ?
Party on dudes, wasn't that Abraham Lincoln?
