Atsumu, the best setter, but taken out of Nationals in his first match. It's intriguing. It's monster generation setter-spiker extraordinaire. It's a ready-made ship.
@@_L3x_ You mean Atsumu ? Its was because Kageyama wasn't competing at that time (the setter awards are granted based on the performance on 1 competition, not the global skills of the player). If I remember correctly, it was that one time karasuno couldn't get to interhigh because they lost to Dateko. But after the timeskip, it's very clear who the best setter is for me (the stats speak for themselves)

SakuAtsu is a ship that that displays how two characters like Sakusa Kiyoomi and Miya Atsumu who are the biggest jerks or not "nice" or "warm" can have such a real relationship. When I say "real" I mean like how real life isn't all sunshine and rainbows and that ship perfectly depicts that. It's different from most ships, but this ship portrays how a relationship can be so diverse compared to ships that are typically "all good things happen" or "this is so bad" or something similar. However, these two characters just show how some relationships actually are in real life, you know? SemiShira is also a ship that shows diversity and differences just in a different way from SakuAtsu.
Love this, but I’ve been traumatized by way too many of the toxic trio of ships to not point it out. (Toxic trio ships as in IwaOi SakuAtsu and KurooKen. Like, I love them, but,,,, 2019 Haikyuu texts was BAD.) (KurooKen isn’t as tainted in my mind because my all time fav fic AND introduction to both the fandom and ao3 was the galaxy is endless and I thought we were too)
So apparently, the team Sakusa was supposed to play with was a very last minute decision by Furudate, referring to it as a coin toss level of last minute. Sakuatsu's entire life depended on a last minute decision. 😭😭
I genuinely believe a large portion of SakuAtsu shippers were simply aware of the ship but then Terminal Curiosity dropped and they all had their 𝙊𝙝... moment.
Recently it was revealed that furudate didn't know wether to put sakusa on msby or the Adler's so they kind of just flipped a coin and sent him to msby. That means that there is a whole universe out there where sakusa is in Adler's and sakuatsu is not a thing.
I imagine if Sakusa had gone to the Adlers UshiSaku could've been a thing considering how Sakusa admired(?) Ushijima back in highschool. But thank god he went to MSBY, i can't imagine living in a world where SakuAtsu doesn't exist
SakuAtsu (especially Atsumu) changed my entire life I swear. When I first saw them in the anime I thought “So this is who Atsumu and Sakusa are” cause I had heard them mentioned back when when season 4 was like a couple months out and when I tell you that I would’ve never thought I would fall this hard for them, I am Shocked. Flabbergasted. Utterly Amazed how they managed to grip my soul. I think most of the reason that they’re so popular is because since they have little interaction that we see it has allowed fanfic authors and people to explore that dynamic and shape it into something more than just two amazingly talented volleball stars that happen to be cocky jerks too. Sakusa “too-blunt jerk” Kiyoomi and Atsumu “Big-fat jerk” Miya are imperfectly perfect for eachother. Just two assholes falling in love

Sakuatsu fics are just top quality imo - maybe because of how most of their canon interactions are set in adulthood, their fanfics also focus on exploring their characterisations and relationship in adulthood. The writings of their fics are very mature and grounded while still being dynamic because of Sakusa and Atsumu’s distinctive personalities, and they’re so damn fun to read. Props to everyone who has contributed to this ship, you guys are the backbone of the fandom lol
I looked through my phone and the earliest SakuAtsu art i have saved is from March 2020. I watched this crackship grow into what it is today. This ship was born out of sheer brainrot and NOBODY expected said brainrot to fester this long 🤣 Tbh tho, the artists and fic writers definitely built this ship from the ground up.

I'd like to add that this ship was theorised and became popular through the timeskip arc, where the majority of characters are now adults. Thus the majority of fics have them (sakuatsu) as adults. And adult characters are so much more interesting and versatile than teenagers.

listen i wasn't too invested in the ship until i tried the fics- the quality???? the sheer beauty of the sakuatsu fics???? unmatched also, one i'd highly recommend is shard society! it's really _really_ angsty, and a murder mystery. one of my all time favourite pieces.
Shard society is one of the most amazing fanfics I've ever read. It's the one that inspired me to write too. I completely love everything about that story. Shard society and Terminal curiosity are one of the best explorative fics I've ever read about sakuatsu. SS gave me inspiration to write and TC made me realise just how *hot* the ship actually is. Without TC, I still would've thought that sakuatsu wasn't as hot as people claimed it to be
I just checked out Shard Society and holy shit that word count. Definitely gonna have fun reading that. Terminal Curiosity has so many people in a chokehold, me included, but I also adore A Liar’s Truth and anything internetpistol has written.
@@bwebeks A Liar's truth is amazing!! Very angsty but atleast has a happy and satisfying ending. I also recommend you read 'My Body is a Cage'. It's an omegaverse and Atsumu-centric fic. Although it's not been completed yet (I think) the existing ch r amazing!! Also highly recommend 'Deadweight' too. It's also a sakuatsu but it also has omegaverse dynamics and it's merman au. Both are amazing but unfortunately are not completed yet. Still amazing though!!!
14:28 Ah, for those panels, they're not actually playing beach volleyball. Instead, it's Hinata's own imagination that he perceives his matches like they're playing beach. That's why Sakusa said "Quit envisioning me as a beach volleyball player" in that scene which is kinda cute and funny when you think about how Hinata is always reminded of his time in Brazil, even in Japan. Also its funny because its so unlikely that Sakusa would ever play beach willingly due to the sand and the sun, his *face would be kissing the sand every so often.

i think part of it was also because there really isn't anyone else to ship them with lmao at least in the canon story kita and aran are best friends and they're pretty tied together. suna, well suna was bound to be with either twin and the fandom chose him to be with osamu lmao. there's hinata or kageyama but kagehina are literally the main characters, who already dominate. so atsumu has no one else to be a ship that isn't already in a super popular ship. sakusa has ushiwaka but he's already in the ushiten which is a classic haikyuu ship. there's his high school captain, but that was less than 1 chapter and we didn't see much of them at all. and ig the only other person is komori and komori ended up being his cousin 💀 despite being hyped up as one of the top 3 aces in japan, sakusa actually isn't in haikyuu that much so he doesn't really have anyone else to be his gay parallel in his team and so when you see sakusa and atsumu in the time skip and they annoy each other and atsumu even calls his a nickname, take into account they have no one else as competition, yeah. so that just became a big ship
Never read or seen Haikyuu but MAN this video makes me want to read fics of them. Like their dynamic looks so fun by the way you describe it n its just up my halley so maybe I will check it out lol
DO IT. The content is spectacular. So many amazing artists deep diving into their characters. AND THE FICS. IMMACULATE. The quality is top tier. Some of the best fanfics, hell, the best writing, I’ve ever seen in my life. They are seriously life changing, like I walked away from so many fics learning so much more about myself and relationships. My perception of life was different. Some ao3 recs if you’re interested: A Liar’s Truth by internetpistol (their account is orphaned, but all their fics are amazing. They base their fics on personal aspects of themself and it’s just so beautiful) frankenstein’s monster by starbeyy (lots of mental health talk here, I ended up learning a lot from it) parasitical instinct by pointlessnarrations (sci-fi type fic that I got hooked on so fast) when you hear hoofbeats by psychedgelic (this is the PERFECT representation of the validity of both physical and mental health) Terminal Curiosity by favspacetwink and moonlumie (there’s a lot of sexual content in this one, so if you’re not into that don’t read-it does have a lot of deeper relationship and emotional exploration, though) Clipped to You by littleboat (this is just so cute OMFGGG) Burden of Blame by DeathBelle ( a good classic mafia AU, I haven’t read this in a while but I remember enjoying it) Thanks for coming to my 3 am TedTalk. I'm so sad about the two movies announcement. There's no way they're going to be able to fit all the manga content into two movies and do it all justice. Especially with the last two matches and the timeskip arc there are so many important moments that I just feel like are going to be glossed over
I have to admit, while SakuAtsu isn't one of my OTPS, they definitely deserve the popularity. Not to mention that they have really good fics, so...yeah.
see, most people dived into haikyuu when they were 13 to 15. they were intrigued by the extremely romantic plus angsty iwaoi, the classic rivals kagehina and the picture-perfect daisuga. now when atsumu and sakusa were introduced together in the manga, the same shippers are now adults. they understand that relationships aren't always flowers and sunshine, true love is fleeting and sexual tension plays a huge role, no matter how much people try to avoid it (unless they are asexual). sakuatsu contains two MASSIVE JERKS. kagehina has hinata as the soft guy, iwaoi has oikawa and daisuga is overall too soft. even kuroken and bokuaka have major fluff, tooth-rotting potential. however sakuatsu is dangerous. its feral, its forever changing. people were bored with fluffy smut and angsty misunderstandings. sakuatsu when you flesh out both the characters in your mind fits like a puzzle. its not even canon that the omi-omi was even atsumu's idea. for all we know, it could have been bokuto... well we took small liberties like this, drew our own conclusions which furudate might not even have thought of, and were so desperate to have ships for atsumu and sakusa, some amazing writers wrote some tempestuous fics. i belive the FICS played a huge part in the ship's popularity. iwaoi kagehina and daisuga were too apparent, but sakuatsu contained the best dearth of content and fit together like a puzzle piece. both atsumu and sakusa are not what they appear on the surface, sakusa isn't as boorish as he appears, atsumu isn't as ebullient as he lets on. they have layers, layers each can shed off the other (along with their clothes) and the fandom saw it and took the opportunity. popular twt and tumblr artists and authors gave their own input in this ship, their followers adored their works (we stan!) and continued their legacy like hamilton did. i am sure we have lost sight of some of the characterization of both these players, some are canon, some are just figments of our imaginations... and another thing... SAKUATSU is very visually pleasing. and despite not even interacting much in the manga, this ship is now taking over daisuga and soon kuroken on ao3

This is amazing! I didn't realize this ship like blew up and wasn't popular before. I am a newer fan, starting in 2020 so it was fun learning the "history" of a ship in one of my fave fandoms. I was introduced to this ship as a 'default line-up' through youtube videos!
I know this was brain rot in 2020-2021 but I feel like those haikyuu texting videos went really popular and we just accepted in these videos that schools interacted outside of volleyball. So these cross-school ships with not as much interaction went crazy and I feel that also made SakuAtsu made really really popular. I know the older fans weren’t into it since it was cringy and the older fans realized that so they didn’t realize it but that was my big introduction to SakuAtsu and why I loved it 😭
Honestly the fics sucked me in on this one. I understood it would be a good dynamic when I heard about the ship but wasn't completely sold out until I read one of the masterpieces written about them on AO3. I can't really explain why but somehow sakuatsu fics have really good quality. On a sidenote I also started shipping Tanaka with Tsukishima because of one single fic that made the relationship work so well it was instantly over for me hehe

Tbh i wouldn't say SakuAtsu beats KurooTsuki. If we're only measuring it by the amount of works on ao3 or twitter, SakuAtsu definetly feels more mainstream, however as an asian who pays attention to the haikyu fandom in china, i'd say KuroTsuki is way bigger there. Platforms like Lofter and Weibo have a huge amount of content but it's likely that you wouldn't see it because it's hard to access those platform if you aren't chinese. KuroTsukki is also way more popular amongst the haikyu fandom in my country. I'd say SakuAtsu is more popular to western audience but KuroTsuki is more popular to the asian audience, at least according to my experience

One of my favorite anime ships. Ever. Second only to BSD Dazai and Chuuya. Wonderful stories on ao3. The instant I saw Omi with the dark curly hair it was over for me. I'm not loving the American voice actor they chose. I thought omi would sound kinda confident, educated asshole sorta snobbish... Anyways. Love them.

I haven't been in this fandom in a long time, though I do occasionally check in on my favorite rarepair tag for the fandom on AO3, OiSuga. Nice to see an explanation of why this pairing started showing up so much. Kind of reminds me of back in the Stargate Atlantis days when Lorne/Parrish blew up because they had... one scene at the beginning of an episode. I never got over how that drowned out the (much more canon supported) potential of Lorne/Zelenka, wherein most of the fic was written by a tiny group of us who made friends with each other because of our little rarepair.
AAAAAAAAAA I’M SO HAPPY YOU DECIDED TO TALK ABT THIS!! I’ve only been into SakuAtsu since like 3 months ago but I still have no clue how this ship even happened-
Rare pairs are genuinely the most fun things to write, especially if the two characters haven’t met but would have amazing chemistry. You have little to work with, so you have to think outside of the box with how they would ever meet ESPECIALLY if you want the fic to fit in the canon. And since you have nothing to bounce off of in terms of their canon relationship, you are completely in control of how their relationship goes. It’s literally a challenge prompt. Genuinely recommend amateur romance writers to write rare pairs.
Ive been in severe SakuAtsu brainrot for the past year, and this video perfectly summarized the ship and the fandom surrounding it. Even though its weird seeing a ship accurately described as an "invasive species" rise so high in the ship ranks a delusional part of me really wants to see it get at least maybe 3rd, even though BokuAka is also one of my faves... I think the reason Atsumu calls Sakusa “Omi” is to piss him off. Because Omi sounds similar to “uni” the Japanese word for sea urchin. So it’s like comparing him to a sea urchin

i'm SO obsessed over this ship! At first i didn't even understood why they were shipped but then I got more and more into haikyuu, watch the whole anime and then to read the manga and from seeing them being mentioned here and there, they started to sound more familiar to me. Then i got curious cause I fell in love with the twins, and yeah both of them are really good-looking side by side (they look so so good together) but the moment i search "sakuatsu" on ao3 it was over for me. THE FANFICS OF THIS SHIP ARE SO, SO GOOD. Omg, i never enjoyed other ships fanfics more than sakuatsu stories. Like you said they're like a blank canvas, with context and so much to work on. I've seen so many creative plot lines and so. I was never a big fan of the fake relationship trope but this two made me really, REALLY, enjoy it. I love the contrast and also similar personalities they have.

LOVE Sakuatsu even though I haven't finished the manga lol 😅It's fascinating to hear about the logistics of how this ship blew up in popularity, I've never thought about all that. That's what I always love about fandom, the fact that the SIDE characters in a series can unexpectedly get so much exploration and appreciation than they got in actual canon. And the sheer talent of the people that contribute to the fandom is just amazing, the fics/fanart/doujin are all SO good, it's hard not to fall in and join the bandwagon. Really hoping this train keeps going for awhile while we lament the anime movie release news 😢

i just got into haikyuu and was so confused seeing posts of them all over instagram, but this video made me understand and get on board as well lol it also reminded me a bit of the les mis fandom with jehan/montparnasse
i finished the manga in 2020 when it finished and I’ve been following the ship for a while i don’t even realize it was considered a rare pair at the time 😭😭😭

'Red Dahlia' - Noble Sakusa x Thief Atsumu au (By FairyCake) 'Insert Coin to Play' - CyberPunk x Bounty Hunter au (By Fairycake) 'Three Sheets To The Wind' - Pirate Atsumu x Noble Sakusa (By FairyCake) * To note, these stories are quite long with lengthy chapters but they all work on the development on the two and never seem to rush their relationship in it as well as develop the characters on their own. I recommend to not skim over them because they're a little long like I did the first time I read Insert Coin To Play because I missed out on a lot of purely brilliant plot elements. It preferred for you to do this when you can focus purely on the fic!!! * Notes about the authors writing style: They're style is absolute perfection, there are twists that are genuine twists and not something you can expect from a mile away like most stories and the au's are delicately detailed on how they portray the world around the protagonists in the longer ones they've written such as the listed. Fight scenes too are written in a way that is easy to read and can create a perfect image of how the fight is playing out with nearly pin point accuracy on each of the character's cannon personalities. Their banter writing is always entertaining, it never fails to make me laugh or smile! Hope you guys check it out, I'm sorry this is a little long- I've just wanted to gush about this person for ages!

The moment Atsumu uttered "Omi Omi," it was over for the fandom. A new mighty ship is born. And it's just so intriguing. Sakusa, one of the best hs spikers, but we never see him in a match. Atsumu, the best setter, but taken out of Nationals in his first match. It's intriguing. It's monster generation setter-spiker extraordinaire. It's a ready-made ship.

If I remember correctly, it was that one time karasuno couldn't get to interhigh because they lost to Dateko. But after the timeskip, it's very clear who the best setter is for me (the stats speak for themselves)

SakuAtsu is a ship that that displays how two characters like Sakusa Kiyoomi and Miya Atsumu who are the biggest jerks or not "nice" or "warm" can have such a real relationship. When I say "real" I mean like how real life isn't all sunshine and rainbows and that ship perfectly depicts that. It's different from most ships, but this ship portrays how a relationship can be so diverse compared to ships that are typically "all good things happen" or "this is so bad" or something similar. However, these two characters just show how some relationships actually are in real life, you know? SemiShira is also a ship that shows diversity and differences just in a different way from SakuAtsu.

Love this, but I’ve been traumatized by way too many of the toxic trio of ships to not point it out. (Toxic trio ships as in IwaOi SakuAtsu and KurooKen. Like, I love them, but,,,, 2019 Haikyuu texts was BAD.) (KurooKen isn’t as tainted in my mind because my all time fav fic AND introduction to both the fandom and ao3 was the galaxy is endless and I thought we were too)
So apparently, the team Sakusa was supposed to play with was a very last minute decision by Furudate, referring to it as a coin toss level of last minute. Sakuatsu's entire life depended on a last minute decision. 😭😭

Recently it was revealed that furudate didn't know wether to put sakusa on msby or the Adler's so they kind of just flipped a coin and sent him to msby. That means that there is a whole universe out there where sakusa is in Adler's and sakuatsu is not a thing.
I imagine if Sakusa had gone to the Adlers UshiSaku could've been a thing considering how Sakusa admired(?) Ushijima back in highschool. But thank god he went to MSBY, i can't imagine living in a world where SakuAtsu doesn't exist

SakuAtsu (especially Atsumu) changed my entire life I swear. When I first saw them in the anime I thought “So this is who Atsumu and Sakusa are” cause I had heard them mentioned back when when season 4 was like a couple months out and when I tell you that I would’ve never thought I would fall this hard for them, I am Shocked. Flabbergasted. Utterly Amazed how they managed to grip my soul.
I think most of the reason that they’re so popular is because since they have little interaction that we see it has allowed fanfic authors and people to explore that dynamic and shape it into something more than just two amazingly talented volleball stars that happen to be cocky jerks too.

Sakuatsu fics are just top quality imo - maybe because of how most of their canon interactions are set in adulthood, their fanfics also focus on exploring their characterisations and relationship in adulthood. The writings of their fics are very mature and grounded while still being dynamic because of Sakusa and Atsumu’s distinctive personalities, and they’re so damn fun to read. Props to everyone who has contributed to this ship, you guys are the backbone of the fandom lol
I looked through my phone and the earliest SakuAtsu art i have saved is from March 2020. I watched this crackship grow into what it is today. This ship was born out of sheer brainrot and NOBODY expected said brainrot to fester this long 🤣 Tbh tho, the artists and fic writers definitely built this ship from the ground up.

I'd like to add that this ship was theorised and became popular through the timeskip arc, where the majority of characters are now adults. Thus the majority of fics have them (sakuatsu) as adults. And adult characters are so much more interesting and versatile than teenagers.
only 23 manga panels of SAKUATSU where they're in the same frame and not even really interacting in most of them, yet we have 10k ao3 fics of them omg XD such a great fandom!!!

the first time i heard abt them i was surprised they were even a thing coz they barely interacted with each other. Decided to give their fics a try and now I'm in love with them. Fanfic writers deserve all our thanks tbh for exploring and making their dynamic so interesting.

Shard society is one of the most amazing fanfics I've ever read. It's the one that inspired me to write too. I completely love everything about that story. Shard society and Terminal curiosity are one of the best explorative fics I've ever read about sakuatsu. SS gave me inspiration to write and TC made me realise just how *hot* the ship actually is. Without TC, I still would've thought that sakuatsu wasn't as hot as people claimed it to be

Terminal Curiosity has so many people in a chokehold, me included, but I also adore A Liar’s Truth and anything internetpistol has written.

Although it's not been completed yet (I think) the existing ch r amazing!! Also highly recommend 'Deadweight' too. It's also a sakuatsu but it also has omegaverse dynamics and it's merman au. Both are amazing but unfortunately are not completed yet. Still amazing though!!!

14:28 Ah, for those panels, they're not actually playing beach volleyball. Instead, it's Hinata's own imagination that he perceives his matches like they're playing beach. That's why Sakusa said "Quit envisioning me as a beach volleyball player" in that scene which is kinda cute and funny when you think about how Hinata is always reminded of his time in Brazil, even in Japan. Also its funny because its so unlikely that Sakusa would ever play beach willingly due to the sand and the sun, his *face would be kissing the sand every so often.

i think part of it was also because there really isn't anyone else to ship them with lmao at least in the canon story
kita and aran are best friends and they're pretty tied together. suna, well suna was bound to be with either twin and the fandom chose him to be with osamu lmao. there's hinata or kageyama but kagehina are literally the main characters, who already dominate. so atsumu has no one else to be a ship that isn't already in a super popular ship.
sakusa has ushiwaka but he's already in the ushiten which is a classic haikyuu ship. there's his high school captain, but that was less than 1 chapter and we didn't see much of them at all. and ig the only other person is komori and komori ended up being his cousin 💀 despite being hyped up as one of the top 3 aces in japan, sakusa actually isn't in haikyuu that much so he doesn't really have anyone else to be his gay parallel in his team
and so when you see sakusa and atsumu in the time skip and they annoy each other and atsumu even calls his a nickname, take into account they have no one else as competition, yeah. so that just became a big ship

Some of the best fanfics, hell, the best writing, I’ve ever seen in my life. They are seriously life changing, like I walked away from so many fics learning so much more about myself and relationships. My perception of life was different.

I'm so sad about the two movies announcement. There's no way they're going to be able to fit all the manga content into two movies and do it all justice. Especially with the last two matches and the timeskip arc there are so many important moments that I just feel like are going to be glossed over
I have to admit, while SakuAtsu isn't one of my OTPS, they definitely deserve the popularity. Not to mention that they have really good fics, so...yeah.
see, most people dived into haikyuu when they were 13 to 15. they were intrigued by the extremely romantic plus angsty iwaoi, the classic rivals kagehina and the picture-perfect daisuga. now when atsumu and sakusa were introduced together in the manga, the same shippers are now adults. they understand that relationships aren't always flowers and sunshine, true love is fleeting and sexual tension plays a huge role, no matter how much people try to avoid it (unless they are asexual). sakuatsu contains two MASSIVE JERKS. kagehina has hinata as the soft guy, iwaoi has oikawa and daisuga is overall too soft. even kuroken and bokuaka have major fluff, tooth-rotting potential.
however sakuatsu is dangerous. its feral, its forever changing. people were bored with fluffy smut and angsty misunderstandings. sakuatsu when you flesh out both the characters in your mind fits like a puzzle. its not even canon that the omi-omi was even atsumu's idea. for all we know, it could have been bokuto... well we took small liberties like this, drew our own conclusions which furudate might not even have thought of, and were so desperate to have ships for atsumu and sakusa, some amazing writers wrote some tempestuous fics. i belive the FICS played a huge part in the ship's popularity. iwaoi kagehina and daisuga were too apparent, but sakuatsu contained the best dearth of content and fit together like a puzzle piece.
both atsumu and sakusa are not what they appear on the surface, sakusa isn't as boorish as he appears, atsumu isn't as ebullient as he lets on. they have layers, layers each can shed off the other (along with their clothes) and the fandom saw it and took the opportunity.
popular twt and tumblr artists and authors gave their own input in this ship, their followers adored their works (we stan!) and continued their legacy like hamilton did.
i am sure we have lost sight of some of the characterization of both these players, some are canon, some are just figments of our imaginations... and another thing... SAKUATSU is very visually pleasing.
and despite not even interacting much in the manga, this ship is now taking over daisuga and soon kuroken on ao3

This is amazing! I didn't realize this ship like blew up and wasn't popular before. I am a newer fan, starting in 2020 so it was fun learning the "history" of a ship in one of my fave fandoms. I was introduced to this ship as a 'default line-up' through youtube videos!
I know this was brain rot in 2020-2021 but I feel like those haikyuu texting videos went really popular and we just accepted in these videos that schools interacted outside of volleyball. So these cross-school ships with not as much interaction went crazy and I feel that also made SakuAtsu made really really popular. I know the older fans weren’t into it since it was cringy and the older fans realized that so they didn’t realize it but that was my big introduction to SakuAtsu and why I loved it 😭
Honestly the fics sucked me in on this one. I understood it would be a good dynamic when I heard about the ship but wasn't completely sold out until I read one of the masterpieces written about them on AO3. I can't really explain why but somehow sakuatsu fics have really good quality.
On a sidenote I also started shipping Tanaka with Tsukishima because of one single fic that made the relationship work so well it was instantly over for me hehe

In my country's haikyuu fandom this ship has been around for a while . There're so many fanfiction about it and its very common to find. I didn't know this ship is not so famous in the national fandom but now. (I'm sorry if my grammar are wrong)

I agree to this statement about my comfort ship. I think as soon as Kami told Shinso that he’s going to be a great hero the fandom went wild.

Like, SakuAtsu beat KuroTsukki by this point right? (That was my other rare-turned-mainstream ship, since there were longstanding TsukkiYama/KuroKen shippers already) That is crazy to me
They've long beat Kurotsuki, at least on AO3, in fact, I think they've beat popular ships like Tsukkiyama and SugaDai in the amount of fics already.
Tbh i wouldn't say SakuAtsu beats KurooTsuki. If we're only measuring it by the amount of works on ao3 or twitter, SakuAtsu definetly feels more mainstream, however as an asian who pays attention to the haikyu fandom in china, i'd say KuroTsuki is way bigger there. Platforms like Lofter and Weibo have a huge amount of content but it's likely that you wouldn't see it because it's hard to access those platform if you aren't chinese. KuroTsukki is also way more popular amongst the haikyu fandom in my country. I'd say SakuAtsu is more popular to western audience but KuroTsuki is more popular to the asian audience, at least according to my experience
@@dgsjsk7337 i know KuroTsuki is more popular because I have actually yet to see any SakuAtsu doujin anywhere and that is my personal bar of how widespread a ship is (meanwhile there are some *choice* KuroTsuki doujin out there 😅)

One of my favorite anime ships. Ever. Second only to BSD Dazai and Chuuya. Wonderful stories on ao3. The instant I saw Omi with the dark curly hair it was over for me. I'm not loving the American voice actor they chose. I thought omi would sound kinda confident, educated asshole sorta snobbish... Anyways. Love them.

I haven't been in this fandom in a long time, though I do occasionally check in on my favorite rarepair tag for the fandom on AO3, OiSuga. Nice to see an explanation of why this pairing started showing up so much.
Kind of reminds me of back in the Stargate Atlantis days when Lorne/Parrish blew up because they had... one scene at the beginning of an episode. I never got over how that drowned out the (much more canon supported) potential of Lorne/Zelenka, wherein most of the fic was written by a tiny group of us who made friends with each other because of our little rarepair.

Rare pairs are genuinely the most fun things to write, especially if the two characters haven’t met but would have amazing chemistry. You have little to work with, so you have to think outside of the box with how they would ever meet ESPECIALLY if you want the fic to fit in the canon. And since you have nothing to bounce off of in terms of their canon relationship, you are completely in control of how their relationship goes. It’s literally a challenge prompt.
Genuinely recommend amateur romance writers to write rare pairs.
Ive been in severe SakuAtsu brainrot for the past year, and this video perfectly summarized the ship and the fandom surrounding it. Even though its weird seeing a ship accurately described as an "invasive species" rise so high in the ship ranks a delusional part of me really wants to see it get at least maybe 3rd, even though BokuAka is also one of my faves...

I think the reason Atsumu calls Sakusa “Omi” is to piss him off. Because Omi sounds similar to “uni” the Japanese word for sea urchin. So it’s like comparing him to a sea urchin

i'm SO obsessed over this ship! At first i didn't even understood why they were shipped but then I got more and more into haikyuu, watch the whole anime and then to read the manga and from seeing them being mentioned here and there, they started to sound more familiar to me. Then i got curious cause I fell in love with the twins, and yeah both of them are really good-looking side by side (they look so so good together) but the moment i search "sakuatsu" on ao3 it was over for me. THE FANFICS OF THIS SHIP ARE SO, SO GOOD.
Omg, i never enjoyed other ships fanfics more than sakuatsu stories. Like you said they're like a blank canvas, with context and so much to work on. I've seen so many creative plot lines and so. I was never a big fan of the fake relationship trope but this two made me really, REALLY, enjoy it. I love the contrast and also similar personalities they have.

LOVE Sakuatsu even though I haven't finished the manga lol 😅It's fascinating to hear about the logistics of how this ship blew up in popularity, I've never thought about all that. That's what I always love about fandom, the fact that the SIDE characters in a series can unexpectedly get so much exploration and appreciation than they got in actual canon. And the sheer talent of the people that contribute to the fandom is just amazing, the fics/fanart/doujin are all SO good, it's hard not to fall in and join the bandwagon. Really hoping this train keeps going for awhile while we lament the anime movie release news 😢

sakuatsu’s fanon power is honestly scary 😂 it’s so funny seeing my friends getting converted one by one, i was just as confused when the sakuatsu waves started, and it took just 2-3 fics to see the light! their chemistry is so delicious, ideas keep coming in for content that its actually hard to fight. 🫠 thank you for explaining this intriguing phenomenon so well!! every second of this video was so fun to watch!

It preferred for you to do this when you can focus purely on the fic!!! *
Notes about the authors writing style:
They're style is absolute perfection, there are twists that are genuine twists and not something you can expect from a mile away like most stories and the au's are delicately detailed on how they portray the world around the protagonists in the longer ones they've written such as the listed. Fight scenes too are written in a way that is easy to read and can create a perfect image of how the fight is playing out with nearly pin point accuracy on each of the character's cannon personalities. Their banter writing is always entertaining, it never fails to make me laugh or smile!

I was an only anime watcher and as soon as I saw Sakusa and Atsu I was like “ YUP THOSE TWO IDC IF THEY DONT TALK THEYRE PERFECT” I’ve shipped them since and when I read the manga about how they get into MSBY I lost my sh!t, love them they’re probably my favorite Haikyuu!! Ship so far.
