Sunscreen queen 👸 Thank you! One of my major reservation after spfpocalypse is the inconsistent SPF testing in Korea, thanks for pointing out how to avoid this problem. Will definitely try your recommendations!
if the sunscreen is from anessa or shiseido’s sun care line, the water resistance is off the charts of their “flagship” sunscreen. There has been many reviews tested how hard to wash them off. It is hardest among many sunscreen. Much better than La Roche Posay even if their latest version uses a new technique to spread filters more evenly and densely on skin. For anessa or shiseido’s sun care line, short exposure to water will increase the spf rating since the sunscreen film has find to be even more evenly distributed on the skin. It also boosts it spf rating if you surround is very hot. Although La Roche Posay’s UVA protection is better, but anessa or shiseido’s sun care line stay evenly distributed more and stay on better than even than one of the best.
I second on Anessa or Shi Sheido’s -- very water resistant -- so my fave sunscreen when I run outside by the beach even at above 36C temp. I need an oil or balm cleanser to remove this in 1 go otherwise triple cleanse with water-based cleanser
Do you know what the details of the water resistance test were? I've seen 40 minutes on their website, but it doesn't say what the SPF was after 40 min (100% of the SPF like US/AU, 50% like the EU...). As someone from Australia where SPF 50+ after a 4 hour water test is a standard claim, I don't know if I would consider 40 min off the charts 😅 It is lovely on the skin though!
Sorry for the late reply, didn’t check for a few days. No idea on their (shiseido) internal test. But there are plenty of individual Chinese skincare reviewers studios that do reviews on sunscreen. One make videos on them taking many sunscreen after soaking them in water for 2 hours and use a UV meter to measure how much more % of UV is passed through. Since I don't know their UV light source (what spectrums are included), neither what spectrum the measuring meter can detect, I will just have to trust them in combination of the large amount comments under reviewers video. Although they did measure 2g of sunscreen using a finger glove for every sunscreens, so that at least helps with some margin of error. Some others reviews just tape on grids on the reviewers’ backs and try on different sunscreens under the sun for a few hours. There are many other reviews like that, even though that is not a good test. Also questionable ethics, but that is off topic. But you can still see in general which sunscreen are more consist in protection. There are also face cleanser test on those sunscreen, and they are of the ones that are hardest to wash off. Anessa's and La Roche Posay seem to have the most comments on survive not having being tanned after the week long Chinese military training. Even though these are anecdotal evidences, but when there are a lot of them, it is trustworthy. Basing on their sunscreen formulas (from what those reviewers have said, like how the the sunscreen film forms), these two seem like safe bets.
Thank you for the links! I have the hardest time finding the products mentioned without going down a two hour web search rabbit hole. I tend to get lost in all the "shiny" products.
I've ordered the Beauty of Joseon one! Very excited for it. Isntree I bought at Xmas time and gifted to someone else, because it smells like sunscreen and she loved it. Also got the stick version for presents too. (I'm oily and acne prone Aussie too)
@@mA-mt1ii the BoJ one of lovely but it irritated my sensitive skin :( ditto for Toboco. Thank you for your detailed reply really appreciate it. I’ve started the sunscreen along with isntree hyaluronic acid aqua gel moisturiser and noticed new breakouts. I’m confused which one is causing them:(
I have oily skin and my skin hates the famous and be loved Isntree so much lol it literally stings my eyes soooo bad, i literally look like i am crying lol even though (it looks like) everybody (regardless of skin types) loves this Isntree sunscreen, it is very important for you, yourself, to try it to know it if it works for you or not. Plus, it makes me into a greasy ball!
@@alonecozydot195 I just mostly thoes you need to shake before use (the ones with a ball inside), like etude house sunprise, anessa (expensive ones!!). I have oily skin and thankfully my skin is happy with Isntree. I’m actually surprised that it’s made me less oily and gives me a nice glow. I’ll have to try BOJ.
I am absolutely MARRIED to the Frudia one. I think it’s perfect - even works well under my makeup. I have combination skin and hate when sunscreens pill or done mix well with other products !!!
We have similar skin, prone to dehydration and clogged pores. My favourite sunscreen is also the beauty of joseon ❤ it was simply a game changer in my skin care routine
Hi, Michelle! I would love to know your thoughts about Dr. Shereene Idriss' video on hyaluronic acid. She has quite the bone to pick with the way brands tend to gloss over the difference between the HA found in the body and the stuff we tend to see in ingredient lists, such as sodium hyaluronate.
I really wanted to like the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen but it kept breaking me out! I didn’t want to believe it so I would stop using it and start again, not changing anything else in my routine. But unfortunately I had to stop using but I switched to the Round Lab Birch Juice one and it’s a similar consistency, no white cast, doesn’t sting my eyes, and doesn’t break me out!
Glad that works for you! Yeah I found that the Round Lab has a very similar texture - it's great that there are so many variants of the Kolmar formula out there right now! 😁
I must watch more of your sunscreen stuff - I’m heading to Florida end of August, with my sensitive skinned husband and our eight year old daughter who’s autistic and hates greasy textures on her face/neck! I’m oily with blocked pore tendencies too!
Be careful of the heat and humidity with these sorts of lighter sunscreens - I don't think they fare too well with sweat! I'd definitely recommend looking into sun protective clothing and hats for your daughter, might be a bit more tolerable for her 😊
I have a darker skin tone. African American and 5 on the Fitzpatrick scale and Innisfree has no white cast on me and is one of my favs. I also use Beauty of Joseon.
So glad to hear about new SPF products. After the debacle of late 2020, I’ve also been skittish about SPF products. I’ve actually gone back to Purito, but these also sound great!
I bought the beauty of Joseon sunscreen. I am a dark skin black woman and even though there was a white sheen at first, it doesn't stay. I really like it and will buy it again.
I'm so thankful you're Australian and do so many videos on sunscreen. I'm not sure if you still live here - even if you don't, you know how bad the UV is here and we need sunscreen that does the MOST 😭
Thank you for this. I recently got the BoJ sunscreen. I’m very happy with the Ginseng Essence Water and the Calming serum. With your endorsement, I feel excited to try it.
As someone with very sensitive eyes and with hyperhidrosis, I feel like a minority here…. La Roche-Posay is what I use for the face. Their milk sunscreens.. they stay in place vary well and if I do get any sunscreen in my eyes it’s manageable. Ugh hate it when companies promote bs. Love ya so much LMB!!!
Omg I also have hyperhidrosis but my eye areas are kinda okay. Nonetheless, what worked for me was a thick layer of isntree's HA sun gel and after it dries I put on a translucent powder gently. Even if I sweat and the layer is disrupted I'd have more time to touch it up before it gets into my eyes. I think it only fails when I sweat and rub my eyes with my hand💀
@@kv5486 oh I know the feel. With the LR-P milk sunscreen if I do rub it, it stings for a very short time and not to harshly. I wish there were shinny sunscreens like Supergoop! That gives a glow, that wouldn’t hurt my eyes. When I use the Supergoop one I do use the powder but I do a trick where I only apply the LR-P to my eye area and then the super goop to the rest of my face.
Odile Monod made me try Beauty of Jeseon serums and i love it !!!! But i am still usong my 2 fave Japanese sunscreens, Anessa and Skin Aqua. Just finished Canmake.
i love beauty of joseon. the two finger rule really helps to dilute the appearance of any redness or rosacea on my skin and improves the look of my complexion
Glad to finally learn that the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen is a pass. GlowSkinGuy is like my skin tone twin, so it definitely won't work for me. I already knew Tinosorb M was a no-go from another Labmuffin video, but I absolutely would have bought that BOJ sunscreen without checking because the reviews online have been phenomenal. Still on the hunt for a sunscreen to replace the discontinued Purito Green Level Safe Sun in my heart. 💔
So glad you have pointed out on the coral safe and friendly part on innisfree. I was pretty happy thinking that i found a lightweight waterproof coral friendly sunscreen, until i found the ingredients list with the nano stuff. I am also 1 of the few getting eye sting with innisfree...
Surfer here, so i have tried all the water resistant sun creams, in Australia you have so many and not too expensive, but here (Spain, Europe) you don´t have such a huge choice. My favourite is the Sports BB by Shiseido (liquid and make up looking like in a grey packaging), it´s heavy and very drying (as all of the really resistant formulas are) but it looks good and stays on even after a few hours in the water...definitely my favourite! (you obviously have to do a proper double cleanse...)
Thanks so much for your sunscreen reviews! I have a similar skin type to you, so they help immensely. And I do get excited like in the beginning clip for these types of videos 😂
Hey Michelle, I cant find anything to confirm 100% that Beauty of joseon sunscreen passes as SPF50 in Australia, I notice I still tan with BOJ, but its the best sunscreen ive ever used especially with my sensitive skin. 3:01
I know you don’t have time to test more korean sunscreens here but would have been nice to include an all mineral one. I really love Dr G’s mild up sun spf 50+ PA++++. I think it is similar to Dr Jart one, but Dr G is all mineral and i like it better. If you ever get a chance to try it would love to see what you think about it!
Thank youuu, very excited about this video! Is it possible to have a video together with Odile? I know she explained and recommended some really nice waterproof korean sunscreens. And she discussed a bit in her stories how "clean" in South Korea means something different from what we know. It has to do with a national loss.
I am so against chemical sunscreens (us brands only) but summer is coming and mineral sunscreen during the summer time gives me the worst white cast. I can get away with it in the fall/winter but in the summer time my sweat is literally dripping white and is so greasy from the amount of spf I have to put on. It’s time I get me a chemical sunscreen (from Korea). I just bought the probiotic sunscreen and the water resistant sunscreen you recommended!! As well as the thank you farmer sun stick and the inisfree hylauronic sun stick for reapplying Thank you ❤
Omg, knowing that she actually reviewed these sunscreens, I wonder how she feels about the new sunscreens by BOJ, the Aqua Fresh sunscreen, and CosRX, the Ultralight Invisible.
I finally tried the innisfree watery sun gel and my dry skin loves it. I also want to try the stick for easy reapplication. I need to stop trying new k sunscreens but I can’t stop. So many good ones. But innisfree might be the one
Love these shorts. I’ve been every single one of these “types of people”. If I were to add any, it would be the one who gets to work and has to write herself a note of encouragement before even logging on. The note reads, “You can do this! It’s only 9 hours”. Then, before the system is even up - and despite my note-to-self - fantasizing about killing myself in that moment, just because (in that moment) I’d rather be dead than be THERE.
Thank you for this video, it’s so informative and helpful! Would you be able to make a review on best re-application spf products? There’s so many options these days… stick, powder, spray.. it’s hard to pick lol!
a surprisingly many amount of skincare companies use ewg and the physical reflect and chemical absorb for their sunscreens. even dr g and innisfree used this last time i checked. and yeah i always tell people even zinc and titanium bleach the corals. then they ask me for sources because they cite people like director pi and 안언니(i watch them too) and i cite you 😂
I've also just recently came across the Mary&May brand and the their Peptide Bakuchiol sunscreen sounds very appealing for my sensitive mature skin... would love to see you do a review on that and more products of that brand 😊 Their products formulations appear to be really simple and straight forward wich as someone who struggles with rosacea/acne breakouts i care about. Anyway.. very good video and valueable information, thank you 🙌❤
Great review, but I would love to hear if the sunscreens make your eyes water. I know you recommend using another dedicated sunscreen around the eyes , but whether it irritates the eyes is just something like always want to know.
Is anyone else concerned about the whole shipping situation I believe that they ship from Hong Kong.. many sunscreens are not able to endure more than 120°.. I would like to make a purchase but I'm very concerned about this 🤷♀️
Haven't tried any of these, so I might just order them all! I have a skin type similar to what you mentioned about yourself, so this is really helpful. I do have a hard time discerning if sunscreens caused a bad reaction, or if it's something else (although my routine is minimalist). I recently tried the US version of the new Eucerin oil control SPF 50, and the day after I got a massive pimple, but I was like *surprise pikachu* because it has so many qualities that are supposed to prevent exactly that! 😣 Overall I think it's harder for oily, acne-prone skin to find the right sunscreen. Thanks for your video!
@@babuyadav2336 Glad it wasn't just me. There's still very few reviews on it. I did notice it has a high alcohol content, so it surprised me to find out there's a sticky finish to it.
My favorite one is by Roundlab, do you know it? is called the birch juice moisturizing sun cream spf50+ PA+++++. I've tried all the ones you mentioned in the video except fot the Mary one. The thing is I have supersensitive eyes for sunscreen (also mineral..), very acne prone skin that burns easily. Ive tried probably over a 100 different brands and formulas and this is the first one I actually enjoy using (after the purito one, because then the drama came out 😭). Would love to hear your opinion on a more scientific level!

I feel so skintellectual by owning two of the four recommended SPFs and by watching Odile and Ramon too. Anyway, I love your videos ❤
Sunscreen queen 👸
Thank you!
One of my major reservation after spfpocalypse is the inconsistent SPF testing in Korea, thanks for pointing out how to avoid this problem.
Will definitely try your recommendations!
Beauty of josen sunscreen is the only sunscreen I've seen to give such a beautiful glow, its amazing
if the sunscreen is from anessa or shiseido’s sun care line, the water resistance is off the charts of their “flagship” sunscreen.
Is kose suncut owned by either anessa or shiseido?
Please do make a video of cosmetically elegant water resistant sunscreens!!🙏😍
A few of these are already in the mail what perfect timing!
(I'm oily and acne prone Aussie too)
I am acne prone with combination skin. Did the BOJ sunscreen work well for you?
@@mA-mt1ii the BoJ one of lovely but it irritated my sensitive skin :( ditto for Toboco. Both feel amazing but make it skin itch if I use them two days in a row, and that irritation lead to more acne (it seemed). My hubby loves it though. I'd say you should give it a go cos it's lightweight and non greasy and saved on moisturiser
Thank you for your detailed reply really appreciate it. I’ve started the sunscreen along with isntree hyaluronic acid aqua gel moisturiser and noticed new breakouts. I’m confused which one is causing them:(
I recently bought the Isntree one on a whim. My skin tingles a bit from it and it stings my eyes after a few hours, but it's ok
Same bro 😂😂😂 It's nice for winter though when you're too lazy to put on moisturizer in the morning
What sunscreen do you use? I'm currently using the missha aqua sun block, and it's making me so greasy:( oily skin people unite
@@alonecozydot195 I just mostly thoes you need to shake before use (the ones with a ball inside), like etude house sunprise, anessa (expensive ones!!). Mineral sunscreen is good too but i want more protection from chemical filter lol The BOJ rice one is super gooood! it gives u glow instead of greasy!
@@alonecozydot195 i just tried dr g's new sunscreen Red Blemish Soothing Up Sun!!! is goood! hydrating, glow, not overwhelming!
I have super dry skin, and I love the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen too
We have similar skin, prone to dehydration and clogged pores.
I haven't seen it, but there are a lot of HA myths around going both ways! I should really do a video on it...
Yes I would be interested in this too! Too much confusion!
I'd definitely recommend looking into sun protective clothing and hats for your daughter, might be a bit more tolerable for her 😊
Beauty of Joseon is my holy grail sunscreen. It's so amazing under makeup.
Me too! I am squeezing the last drop as we speak, and I’ve been waiting on my repurchase for weeks from Stylevana
I love seeing the fixed retinol from the Matter of Science roast video hanging next to the glycerin molecule... I don't know why but it tickles me
Not me having the 13-cis-retinoic acid tattooed because it changed my life and my 🧬. 😅 🧛🏻♀️🖤
I have a darker skin tone. African American and 5 on the Fitzpatrick scale and Innisfree has no white cast on me and is one of my favs. I also use Beauty of Joseon.
Great video Michelle! l'm so glad you're reviewing these! I love the BOJ sunscreen! ❤️
I would love to see a Korean water-resistant sunscreen review!
Joseon actually made want to wear sunscreen! Feels like I'm wearing nothing even when I apply a lot of it (no smell, no stickiness). Amazing!
BoJ is hands down best sunscreen ive ever used.
I love every sunscreen video of yours. Glad to see BOJ and Mary&May sunscreens here.
LRP Shaka user here as well, never got stings on my eye when I use that as well.
I really want to try the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen, but for some reason my face is extremely allergic to rice products :(
:(
So glad you have pointed out on the coral safe and friendly part on innisfree. I was pretty happy thinking that i found a lightweight waterproof coral friendly sunscreen, until i found the ingredients list with the nano stuff. I am also 1 of the few getting eye sting with innisfree...
how bad is nano zinc ? I recently bought 2 tubes of innisfree
I use Isntree Watery Sun Gel spf 50, and it's perfect for me. I might try the Beauty of Joseon one next.
Thanks so much for your sunscreen reviews! I have a similar skin type to you, so they help immensely. And I do get excited like in the beginning clip for these types of videos 😂
I wore Beauty of Joseon on vacation in Arizona and did not burn. It is so cosmetically elegant. I love it.
Now this is the kinda SponCon I appreciate 💓
Bellflower avocado sunblock is great for fall or late spring. The joseon is right up there in my book
Hey Michelle, I cant find anything to confirm 100% that Beauty of joseon sunscreen passes as SPF50 in Australia, I notice I still tan with BOJ, but its the best sunscreen ive ever used especially with my sensitive skin. 3:01
Stellar reviews as always, Michelle. Also, in love with u crocheted top!!!!! Gonna try my hand at making it
This is one of the BEST sunscreen videos ever!!!! Thank you Lab. 🤗😍😘❤️🙏
I need to try the Dr G ones! I saw Odile review them and they sound really great
I dont like the DR g one, it gives too much white cast, and sits in All of your dry spots, and drying on skin
Do you mean Isntree watery sun gel?
@@kendallstark4302 you understand me so well 😃
@@crypea hahahaha 😃😊
Love these shorts. I’ve been every single one of these “types of people”. If I were to add any, it would be the one who gets to work and has to write herself a note of encouragement before even logging on. The note reads, “You can do this! It’s only 9 hours”. Then, before the system is even up - and despite my note-to-self - fantasizing about killing myself in that moment, just because (in that moment) I’d rather be dead than be THERE.
Thank you, I need to regain faith in Korean sunscreen 😍
Also can we talk about how aesthetic the beauty of joseon sunscreen !!!
Thank you for giving real life examples of skin tone like glow skin guy love it
Thank you for great informative video. Beauty of Joeson is one of my favourites ❤️
Thank you for this video, it’s so informative and helpful! Would you be able to make a review on best re-application spf products? There’s so many options these days… stick, powder, spray.. it’s hard to pick lol!
Mary and May is a brand that I’ve started seeing everywhere all of a sudden. I think they’ve recently been boosting influencer marketing
This brand is really good and affordable!
a surprisingly many amount of skincare companies use ewg and the physical reflect and chemical absorb for their sunscreens. even dr g and innisfree used this last time i checked.
and yeah i always tell people even zinc and titanium bleach the corals. then they ask me for sources because they cite people like director pi and 안언니(i watch them too) and i cite you 😂
Trying out several of these. Thanks for the reviews as always.
My God girl you read my mind, this was much needed 👏🏼😉
i love the beauty of joseon sunscreen so much
Love how detailed and thorough you are in your reviews! Have you tried Beplain's sunscreens? They feel so good on your skin!
Anyway.. very good video and valueable information, thank you 🙌❤
I have been eyeing some of these before but I am definitely gonna try these now
There is this one that I love.
Holika Holika | Aloe Soothing Essence Waterproof Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++
I completely agree, hope one of these will work for you!
Eucerin oil control broke me out too. I suspect it’s the denatured alcohol which is quite high on the ingredient list.
@@babuyadav2336 Glad it wasn't just me. There's still very few reviews on it. I did notice it has a high alcohol content, so it surprised me to find out there's a sticky finish to it.
@@moisdawg In Europe, denatured alcohol is the third ingredient. It broke me out really fast.
@@babuyadav2336 hm I wonder if I should avoid the Euro version too then. Thanks for the heads up!
I have oily skin and I loved the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel. It is only annoying in the first 5 min until it sets down.
Michelle my favorite Korean water resistant spf is the Isa Knox UV Sun Pro Fluid. It has a more lightweight texture than the innisfree.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I really loved the new Quick flick products in this area.
I was just wishing for this video from you!!
Isntree and Innisfree are very similar names.
On a related note, I just bought a portable bidet banded; Insolife. Now you know.
Hello! I love your reviews! May I suggest you try to review the popular Filipino sunscreen brand Belo. They're very affordable so I would love to know your perspective about it.
I always chuckle at the coral reef safety logo buying only locally sold sunscreen in Germany
