I love the Pyunkang Yul toner, and I’ve been anti-toner for decades. But I like it at night applied in multiple thin layers as a basis for nighttime hydration. Plus, it’s my favorite toner for seven skins, which I do at least once a week at night. That technique has been surprisingly effective for fighting off dehydration of my skin. I’m not sure about the Pyunkang Yul toner/essence. But I can say that the Pyunkang Yul moisture cream is amazing! So light, but so soothing and hydrating. I like to mix it with the COSRX 96% snail essence to really amp up the hydration factor. It also is very soothing and non irritating to my eczema. Cosrx 96% snail essence isnt that hydrating or moisturizing for me (i have mild~moderate eczema) but it IS actually really soothing for my skin. Helps relieve irritations and itches especially those on my neck and aroud my nose
I used it and it was very good at first, gave me glass skin, tone down my redness and helped with my large painful acnes, but after using 1/3rd of the jar, it started to make my skin feel tight like super tight as if I'm lacking moisture. I layered some more on but it would make my skin feel tighter from the inside and I started to get skin like bumps on my face. Eventually it made my skin worse than when I started😔

@lelalu101 I honestly never knew this connection until this video but it isn’t universal based on my own skin. I hope it works for you this time around!
I tend to gravitate towards korean skincare because I have hypersensitive skin with fragrance allergies and COSRX and beauty of joseon are some of the brands that have consistently good products without fragrance or unnecessary allergens. I can use nearly nothing in a Sephora, but I know I can generally trust them to not sneak anything into their products that will be harmful to me.
I tried the pyunkang yul products layered for glass skin. The essence toner was a first step in that. Some of their moisturizers are formulated to give a glass skin shine, while others are more matte. While I don’t do glass skin on my face any more, it’s lovely for décolleté and backs of hands
Hey Dr Michelle. Korean skin care was truly a game changer for me. Snail mucin, pkunyang, and propolis all work well for me. I also follow quite a few of these content creators and they have been so good about educating and not hyping things that don’t and shouldn’t deserve it!
Got some real logical review on hyped kbeauty products after a long time ( recently I found out most of the reviewers are partial to their favorite brands and do not mention harmful ingredients i.e. endocrine disruptors from some product usage experience ). Thumbs up to the creator 😊
I love the B of J eye cream. I’ve had no irritation using it under my eyes and under my brow. I’ll let it migrate to my eyelid itch out placing it there. Great size.
After trying a couple of paula's choice toners....I am starting to understand the west's obsession with korean toners and essences. The latter's hydration game in generally is on another level.
My skin didn't get accustomed to Snail 96 the first time I used it. I broke out, however I gave it 2nd chance and I just fell in love how this mitigates damage done by actives in short time. Also, anti-ageing effect is slightly better than similarly priced HA's. Definitely something I'd keep for a long time until a better one comes out
Love this. I have super-dry skin and I am a KBeauty-aholic, but I have to say the Pyungkang Yul Essence Toner is my favorite toner & I do feel like it lasts longer than a brief plum. My HG essence is the Blithe 9 Essential Seeds.
Great video! I've really enjoyed using the BOJ eye cream on my entire face. It's such a beautiful, gentle, and affordable product and I look forward to seeing results over the next few months. And thank you for highlighting the connection between snail mucin and dust mites! I can't find a lot of credible sources anywhere. Still, I have seen anecdotal claims on the internet where people with dust allergies related how snail products triggered a similar allergic response. I have dust allergies and was really concerned about trying any snail products after reading those comments until a family member got the COSRX snail cream and I decided to patch-test it on my body and at the back of my ear. Thankfully, I didn't get an allergic response, but I was not fond of the cream's texture, so I still decided to avoid snail products after that - lol.
I don't think it happens with everyone! I've seen people go both ways in reviews (allergic to this but not dust/shellfish too). I was a little worried because while I don't have a topical dust allergy I sneeze a lot when cleaning, but this was fine for me 😊
Pyunkang yul essence toner Very review: to all my acne active/ prone oily skin girls i totally recommend pyunkang yul essence toner. i started with the travel size and then orderd the 200 ml size it’s AMAZING. as i’ve a war on my face going most of the time i turn into a tomato all the time duo to my disrupted skin barrier - since i’m using many anti- acne products, this essence toner is very soothing and I SWEAR it reduced my redness to the half within a week. tbh and clear i have been using a mediocre cleanser and the amazing iyloon gel moisturizer( also recommended for oily prone skin) love you all.. you got this ladies ❤❤
Gothamista’s recommendation for the pyunkangyul essence toner incredibly helped my first time ever acne blow up and the official start for my skincare journey. So thankful for her and your approval on the product.
Personally I'm not buying that whole cosrx story about not stimulating the snails in any way, that's just impossible to get the quantity of snail mucin they claim to have in their products, for mass production and at that low of a price, it's just not realistic. Also I cound't find anything about the quality of the mucin being affected, all I could find is that some snails when in distress can produce mucin with harmful/irritating substances so those types of snails are not used for food nor skincare.
I was really looking forward to this because I've tried all the products except the sunscreen and bean essence. I shared pretty much the same opinions as Michelle except for the snail essence, that was a bit too moisturising for me, it seemed to make my skin go a lot oilier quicker than usual. I had combination to oily skin with proneness to dehydration when I was using it. Since then I've been using adapalene for just about a year and a half and my skin is more classic combination (oily t-zone and drier u-zone). I also didn't find the Pyunkang Yul toner particularly moisturising but it did work very well for a specific situation, like when my skin barrier has been damaged, or my skin has been irritated or really dried out, it worked very well when done as a little toner pad hydrating mask. It really took redness down and calmed the itchy, tight, burning feeling when I was restricted on what I could use because all my other products had at least one active in them and stung very badly at the time. With the Beauty of Joseon retinal eye cream I find that it really irritated the skin at the corners of my eyes and the tops of the eyelids just below the browbone. It does feel very drying and sensitising which is unusual for me as I don't usually have sensitive skin and have been using retinal on the rest of my face for a while, and used retinol eye creams before without much issue. I'm working my way slowly through this eye cream but I definitely can't use it for more than a day or two without giving the eyes a break. However, the other Beauty of Joseon products I've tried have all throughly impressed me - their ginseng toner and the plum toner (AHA/BHA toner), their green tea serum and the Dynasty cream are absolutely amazing. Fantastic at hydrating, lightweight and very elegant formulations, very pleasant to use and make me reach for them all the time!
Your videos are always a treat! I'm going to have to give the Cosrx Snail Mucin another try. Also, I haven't tried the raved about Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, but their Ato Cream Blue Label is an amazing, affordable moisturizer (with no fragrance!). It has ceramides, but I'm skeptical of their effectiveness in skincare. It's just a good, basic moisturizer for dry skin, and because I think it's technically marketed for use on the body, in comes in a large 4 oz tube that lasts forever. Often body moisturizers will aggravate my skin, but this just leaves my dry, sensitive skin really moisturized through the next morning.
I've tried some of the Pyunkang Yul products recently (not the toner) & I really enjoyed the Black Tea moisturizer & eye cream. The Round Lab sunscreen is my go-to daily moisturizer.
I’m so glad you liked the Round Lab sunscreen! It’s been one of my favorite skincare finds this year. I agree that the Pyunkang Yul essence toner isn’t that hydrating on its own, but I like using it in multiple skins. Also, if my skin is particularly flushed, putting some of the essence toner on a cotton pad and using it like a targeted sheet mask is so soothing!
Fabulous timing... I'm just looking to get some new products as Shiseido have been constantly discontinuing the lines I use. Such a massive area to look into and very little is available in the UK.
I am happy to hear reviews of skincare+my fav brands! I used to absolutely adore BoJ Dynasty cream but the reformulation ruined it for me. The new essences/toner are lovely though! But the cream, it's just not working the same and I don't know why... The dynasty cream now does nothing & feels different for me when it used to do so much and it's reformulation isn't as good on me. I am so sad because it used to be my Holy Grail 😢 I still have no exact replacement for it and I'm grieving my last jar 😢. I still love Pyunkang Yul toner and balancing gel and AC clear magic cica cream and prefer Benton snail bee essence and steam cream for all my snail needs. My new creams are between Guerisson, GoTo creams and Benton Snail Bee venom steam cream.
Thank you for your down to earth product information. I love Korean skin care, but it's important to remember just because it's Korean, doesn't mean it's great, you still have to look at ingredients, which is exactly what you do. Also at the beginning of the video I kept saying to myself, "what is E-station skin?" 😊😊😊 Happy holidays to you my dear, with love from Texas!
Damn it, maybe I do have to hop on the snail train after all!😂 I've been loving the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen (thanks to your recommendation), so I'm probably gonna check out that cream 🤔
Definitely jump on the snail trail! 😊 The Dynasty Cream however was a no go for me. Maybe my oily skin but it stayed on top of my skin and was super sticky.
I love Round Lab birch sunscreen. I bought and tried so many sunscreens but I couldn't find one that satisfies my dry and sensitive skin. It is the most popular sunscreen in Korea (People in Korea don't even know the brand BOJ or Isntree..lol), so I tried it and I threw away all other sunscreen.
Just a personal opinion about the retinal... I UPGRADED to it.. started with nutragena rapid wrinkle repair until I used it almost every night... Then the cosrx .1% retinol cream, again got up using almost every night ... Now I still use the cosrx but use beauty of joseon at least once a wk ... It's definitely more potent then the others
I wasn’t really so impressed with pyunkang yul. It did feel hydrating at first but like you said it then went away. And that was with the nutrition cream. Also the birch sunscreen felt dry to me. I had to double check it wasn’t a mineral sunscreen. I don’t have especially dry skin at all but I guess it’s kind of finicky! Love the Dynasty cream and the eye cream from Beauty of joseon:)
I have super dry, sensitive skin and the Pyunkang Yul Blue Label Ato Cream is one of the few moisturizers that are heavy enough for the winter for my skin. Plus it is $16 US for 4 oz (120ml), so i can slather it on.
Wait, snail mucin can cross react with dust mite allergies... That explains so much. I was gifted a bottle of bentons snail essence and I hated it so much. It was hydrating at first but then after a few minutes my skin would dry out and get red and itchy.
I’m obsessed with that and the cosrx bha pads. I use the pads and the bha toner and my skin loves it. my complexion has never looked this good in years.
I thought I would chime in as someone with dust allergies, and a shellfish allergy. I haven't had a negative reaction to snail mucin, although that doesn't mean that it won't be a problem for others.
I really wanted to love that toner because the texture is so alluring, but I finished a bottle over several months and honestly didn't detect a bit of anything it did for my skin.
If you wanna try snail mucin, but don't wanna spring for the Cos Rx, Cos de Baha has a really good snail essence for about half the price. I actually like it better for breakouts. Propolis, particularly the Beauty of Joseon is a very good acne product too, as it has a little bit of niacinamide and betaine salicylate.
Cos de Baha has SO many amazing products 🥰 I love every product I'm using. I'll try their snail essence at some point. You can also give a try to TIA'M snail and azulene essence. It's fabulous, better than Cosrx imo.
I recently started the Cos de Baha azelaic acid serum and it's my favorite AA product I've tried so far. Makes skin feel silky to the touch--with none of the post-application itching I've experienced with every other alternative.
1:48 - Upon watching this again, I just learned that snails can retract their vesicular eyes like a water wiggler... that was wild. Alright, that's the final straw. Snail-trail it is (my trail now). I was going to go with the Sukoyaka Suhada urea moisture "lotion"/toner, but then I realised that I am a rockclimber of sorts, and that urea is used to obliterate calluses, so I couldn't have that (climbing-hands ideally shouldn't get TOO soft in that manner, or too callused up). Especially when it's a toner, just soaks right in, no chance to wash it off (unless I used a spray bottle, but it's still recommended to pat it in a bit, it seems).
BOJ eye cream is ok. Can’t use it everyday because it does cause irritation. The cleansing balm everyone raves about wrecked my skin. Took 2 weeks to recover. The only thing that has caused no irritation for me is the make prem sunscreen. Thought Korean skincare was made more for sensitive skin but not really.
It isn't all designed for sensitive skin - just like with Western skincare there's a big range, and in general natural ingredients (which are in a lot of Korean products) are riskier if you have allergies!
That was just an Excellent video. I think you should do more of these product round-up reviews. You don't meander all over the place and just talk about the products. More Please! I'd never heard of the bean essence. Love the Dr. Ceuracle kombucha essence, excellent. Ordered the first time from Stylevana 3rd week in November. They have Not even Sent it yet!!!
@@picklebird1261 OH MAN...I ordered before thanksgiving and they have not even been sent yet!...I've emailed 3 times and just get a standard form letter saying they are packing it up...I hope i have enough products to last until I get these products. Do they give samples with your shipment?
I started using Pyunkang Yul products over the summer for my very dry skin. During the summer/fall, they are fine. Ive had to switch to other products so far during the winter as I was having to layer multiple products. This is not a problem per se but if I can use 2 products vs 4 or 5 to get the same hydration level, I'm going to switch products. lol They are very gentle and I've not had any problems with my dry senstive skin. They just don't provide enough hydration for me during winter. I think I might have to try the Cosrx snail essense though.
Could you do a video on polyethelyne and polyethelyne glycol in cosmetics, specifically in oil cleansers/cleansing balms? I have seen reviews and discussions in different forums stating these ingredients are polluting waterways with microplastics and should be avoided. It would be great to have a breakdown from someone more knowledgeable than randos on the internet.

I tend to gravitate towards korean skincare because I have hypersensitive skin with fragrance allergies and COSRX and beauty of joseon are some of the brands that have consistently good products without fragrance or unnecessary allergens. I can use nearly nothing in a Sephora, but I know I can generally trust them to not sneak anything into their products that will be harmful to me.
yeah but sometimes natural ingredients irritate me more which kbeauty is all about 😔
I tried the pyunkang yul products layered for glass skin. The essence toner was a first step in that. Some of their moisturizers are formulated to give a glass skin shine, while others are more matte. While I don’t do glass skin on my face any more, it’s lovely for décolleté and backs of hands
Which product is best for those areas if you don’t mind me asking? :)
"This channel is about ME!" I love it!!
Definitely something I'd keep for a long time until a better one comes out
Yeah it breaks me out, sadly
Love this. I have super-dry skin and I am a KBeauty-aholic, but I have to say the Pyungkang Yul Essence Toner is my favorite toner & I do feel like it lasts longer than a brief plum. My HG essence is the Blithe 9 Essential Seeds.
This breakdown was fantastic! I've never ventured into Korean skincare; it always felt so overwhelming to me.
You are missing out
Start slowly you won't regret it
Great video!
I was a little worried because while I don't have a topical dust allergy I sneeze a lot when cleaning, but this was fine for me 😊
I'm using now Wonder - Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner and I love it. ❤️
Excellent roundup of a lot of incredible "influencers"!
Awww I love seeing Alice here. She deserves so much love!
Pyunkang yul essence toner Very review:
to all my acne active/ prone oily skin girls i totally recommend pyunkang yul essence toner. i started with the travel size and then orderd the 200 ml size it’s AMAZING.
as i’ve a war on my face going most of the time i turn into a tomato all the time duo to my disrupted skin barrier - since i’m using many anti- acne products, this essence toner is very soothing and I SWEAR it reduced my redness to the half within a week.
tbh and clear i have been using a mediocre cleanser and the amazing iyloon gel moisturizer( also recommended for oily prone skin)
love you all.. you got this ladies ❤❤
Gothamista’s recommendation for the pyunkangyul essence toner incredibly helped my first time ever acne blow up and the official start for my skincare journey. So thankful for her and your approval on the product.
"THIS CHANNEL IS ABOUT ME" is the energy I'm bringing into 2023 💅💅
Personally I'm not buying that whole cosrx story about not stimulating the snails in any way, that's just impossible to get the quantity of snail mucin they claim to have in their products, for mass production and at that low of a price, it's just not realistic.
I have been using it every day, morning and night. No vitamin c nor retinol! So far, so good!
I've tried some of the Pyunkang Yul products recently (not the toner) & I really enjoyed the Black Tea moisturizer & eye cream. The Round Lab sunscreen is my go-to daily moisturizer.
I would love to hear more about Bifidi products :)
Love cosrx. I sometimes get back acne or pigmentation and the aha bha toner from cosrx is a great option as it's easy to apply and it works
when you see your pic on one of your fave skincare guru's video💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Where's all my soul sistas?
Lemme hear ya'll flow, sistas! 😆 🦄 🧡
Hope you're well Euniii!!
Love you! 😍❤️❤️
Super flatteredddd❤
I’m so glad you liked the Round Lab sunscreen! It’s been one of my favorite skincare finds this year.
I agree that the Pyunkang Yul essence toner isn’t that hydrating on its own, but I like using it in multiple skins. Also, if my skin is particularly flushed, putting some of the essence toner on a cotton pad and using it like a targeted sheet mask is so soothing!
Thank you for the feast mother lab muffin 🙇
We have an italian serum which has 98% snail mucin and the moisturizer has like 75%. Well... It works!
Let’s face it. The snail mucin is just fun to use!
Also at the beginning of the video I kept saying to myself, "what is E-station skin?" 😊😊😊
Happy holidays to you my dear, with love from Texas!
east asian
I love watching your content so much. It's educational and entertaining. You're a gem. Happy holidays, Michelle.
Thank you so much, that's really lovely to hear! Happy holidays to you too ☺
So good to know I am on the right track with the content creators I watch as you (also the Goddess of skincare, and science!) watch the same ones.
The mixsoon bean essence is a GAME-CHANGER
Lol, “This channel is about me”. Priceless! Luv it.
Damn it, maybe I do have to hop on the snail train after all!😂
I've been loving the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen (thanks to your recommendation), so I'm probably gonna check out that cream 🤔
I find the Pyunkang yul suitable for my super thirsty skin! I only need one layer 🤷♀
So glad you're here, Michelle. We need you.
I love that stuff and use it year-round. I love a good thick cream and this one is beautiful
@@WendeCrow i use it year-round as well, but every single night in the winter. Great when i was getting used to adapalene!
If you want a thinner consistency -peach slices snail mucin toner is great
you looks so beautiful without make up!! wowzers
I agree! She is stunning in the clip w out makeup
I trust you with my life
Wait, snail mucin can cross react with dust mite allergies... That explains so much. I was gifted a bottle of bentons snail essence and I hated it so much. It was hydrating at first but then after a few minutes my skin would dry out and get red and itchy.
The cosrx blackhead serum is amazing and powerful. Saved my face during the masks wearing days
I’m obsessed with that and the cosrx bha pads. I use the pads and the bha toner and my skin loves it. my complexion has never looked this good in years.
Great video plus your skin is super amazing in it!
Thank you so much 🙂
Have you tried the BOJ cleansing balm? It melts easily and takes off everything gently. One of my favorites.
It’s so good!
The stuff about snail extraction is true to my understanding
I thought I would chime in as someone with dust allergies, and a shellfish allergy. I haven't had a negative reaction to snail mucin, although that doesn't mean that it won't be a problem for others.
This channel is about M.E. Slayed!
I, too, wasn't overly impressed with the Pyunkang Yul toner but their shampoo is really good!
I really wanted to love that toner because the texture is so alluring, but I finished a bottle over several months and honestly didn't detect a bit of anything it did for my skin.
Ooh I've been looking for shampoo recommendations, thank you!
Love you and your channel. Always the best information. You should have millions of subscribers
The Peach Slices is really good too!
Underrated brand.
AliceintheRabbitHole just reviewed their box set which has the essence in it.
@@db-gb5xi Yea I saw that, her round up of the best products of 2022 was just excellent
It took more than a month for me to receive my order from Stylevana. I live in the West Coast US. I ordered on Nov 16 and received Dec 19.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Cassandra Bankson when talking about Pyongyang Yul toner
managed to get some Cosrx Sunscreen and it was really nice. I found it recommended by a youtube comment.
Cosrx snail 96 feels nice after I dermaplane my face. The snail mucin feels better than aloe.
Oooh I wanna try that Mixsoon Bean Essence now. who doesn't love some exfoliation and baby soft skin?
Could you do a video on polyethelyne and polyethelyne glycol in cosmetics, specifically in oil cleansers/cleansing balms? I have seen reviews and discussions in different forums stating these ingredients are polluting waterways with microplastics and should be avoided. It would be great to have a breakdown from someone more knowledgeable than randos on the internet.
Wow, I thought this channel was all about me. 😆
That's what I said, right? 😃
I never heard of orthodoxy lenses before. If only they had those when I was a kid!
Your skin looks amazing. Glowing ❤
Thank you so much for your video. This helps me to clarify so many of my doubts about these products.
i feel like BOJ took off only this year in Lithuania. it's all over media this 2022
This is a great video! Also the Mixsoon and beauty of Joseon appear to be cruelty free!!! ❤🎉
