    The EarthtonesGirl Podcast Present:
NO FEAR SOCK KNITTING CLASS ONLINE
Class 4: The Heel on 2 Circular Needles
    NO FEAR SHORTY SOCK PATTERN:
    www.ravelry.co...
In Today’s class we are going cover the long awaited, much anticipated, very feared sock heel! But things are about to change. Today I’m going to teach you how to knit a perfect, hole-free heel flap and gusset. I’m beyond excited because I’m hoping this tutorial will give you the tools to overcome the fear and frustration that holds so many knitters back.
Each step in the process, heel flap, heel turn, and gusset will be covered slowly (I’m talking snail’s pace) and clearly to walk you through and get those heels knitted.
The pattern instructions are from my No Fear Shorty Sock Pattern. There is a link above.
As always if you have any questions, let me know but I do suggest watching the video, maybe more than once, practicing the steps, taking deep breaths and going slowly. You can do this!!!! Trust me!!
    Upcoming Classes:
Class 5: The Heel on Magic Loop - February 29
Class 6: The Foot and Toe - March 7
    Class 7: Two At A Time - March 14
There will be bonus tutorial videos added along with way.

You are incredible. I have been making socks for a long time but this has helped me so much with little tidbits you used like knitting through the back loops when picking up the stitches along the side. I have always struggled with so many things while knitting socks. You are a fabulous teacher and a joy to watch. I wrote down your little saying “comparison is the thief of joy” because I want to remember when comparing my knitting to others. That hit the nail on the head for me. Thank you so much for all the work you do.

IF someone feels that watching a Lesson in knitting socks in real time is like watching paint dry, then that person will not be knitting many socks. ❤️🧶👵🧶❤️

@@dianastrub3669 This is only my second attempt at socks and I am loving this series. My sock looks WAY better than the first attempt that I did with a different instructor. The first attempt looks like I knitted it with a pair of chainsaws. This one is coming out beautifully!!

@EarthtonesgirlPodcast… I’m working a size medium like you did. And am confused, wouldn’t we repeat rows 3 and 4 14 times for a medium instead of 16 as you mentioned here…isn’t 16 for those who are knitting a large size. Should I knit rows 3 and 4 14 times for a medium size and still end up with 32 rows? Thank you so much🙏🏼

Excellent tutorial, Denise! Your voice is so calming. The background color really helps, too. Thank you so much for explaining the distribution of the stitches; it was my biggest concern. It also helped me to learn to "knit into the back leg of the heel flap stitches... what a nice difference! A million thanks to you and I look forward to more tutorials.

I know you are going to get tired of seeing my name come up, but I am so excited. I finally understand the “Why we do this”. I love the fact you are teaching us the construction step by step and what happens WHEN we do this step. Bless your heart for sharing your knowledge. I once had a calligraphy teacher who said, “I am going to teach you everything I know about calligraphy. Some of my fellow teachers think this isn’t a good thing because then I won’t be superior to you.” How sad. Now this knowledge gets passed down from generation to generation because we have confidence which makes it fun. Again, I give you a BIG THUMBS UP. I know this takes a lot of time and effort on your part. OK, I’m off my soap box, continue on. Haaaa.

Whereas the pandemic hasn’t ended yet, it’s so much less stressful right now, and I’m so thankful for your guidance in this tricky sock knitting, holy cow, this gusset thing & rearranging the stitches is amazing. Thank you for your timeless guidance. Mucho appreciado!

Hi Denise, I had a real eye opener while watching you demonstrating the heel flap... It might be obvious for most people but for me it was not... The stitches on the needle are nothing than potential loops and are nothing specific as long as I knit over them. This realization is so helpful to understand what I am making. I started a textured sock pattern last October and in the heel construction it says "continue in pattern". This let me stumble and give up in the end because I didn't know what I know now. Thank you for giving me the self-confidence to master difficult looking patterns. 🙏🏻🤗😘

Picking up stitches: sometimes I use a narrower dpn and stick it through the loose stitches and knit from that. It helps me get the right number before I actually knit (and avoid getting frustrated).

Hey EarthtoneGirl (Denise) --- I Love your classes!!! My Paternal Grandpa taught me how to knit when I was 7 or 8 years old ---- He would sit in his rocking chair in front of his picture window, and I would sit on the floor next to his right side --- We would knit socks ----- I had almost forgotten about this experience until a friend of mind told me to take a look at your class!!!! WOW - you have opened a whole can of worms for me!!!! My excitement is over the roof ---- I have been going CRAZY doing this Sock knitting ---- I am 87 years old now, and it did not seem to me knitting was as complicated when I was 7 or 8 ---- but, that does not matter --- I am making myself - my daughter - my granddaughter --- and I do not know who else yet --- a pair of hand knitted socks for Christmas!!!! Thank YOU so much!!! I totally appreciate you --- I know these socks I am making are not perfect ----- but, they are PERFECT TO ME ---- We also sheered our own sheep, and spun our wool for the socks!!!

Thank you for teaching these superb detailed classes. I've wanted to do socks for ages and have had trouble with every pattern I've tried. Here in your videos I GOT IT! I'm on my way to making a sock. Of course I have a long way to go but you answered questions I had, demonstrated clearly the challenges I was facing and gave suggestions and tools for keeping the knitting organized as I go. I like that you have a sock to show the finished project. Using a pale multi-colour is brilliant. It is easier to see and count the stitches. I started by listening to Class 1 and began casting on as I listened to Class 2 a second time. Now, I must admit I don't have the correct needles so I am using a 3.25 mm and the sock is a little 'loose' but once the proper needles arrive I'll start for real and make myself a pair. The loosey goosey sock has been frogged many rows and then tinked one row to fix errors many times. Silly to work on it when I'm tired but I was so excited. Lesson learned. Now I've purchased the pattern so can reference it as I listen to your videos. I love that I can do this over and over again at my own pace until I 'get' whatever confuses me. FYI my Ravelry page is GrammyDsKnitting Again, thank you, Denise.

Oh my goodness! I loved this section! I counted by stitches all wrong and knit to 32 stitches of the slipped stitches! I kept saying to myself that this piece was AWFUL big but this is my first heel flap and gusset so what did I know! So happy to be following along! Great teaching, such patience? Thanks for this video.

I use dpns and always divided the heel and heel flap stitches on one needle- the instep on one needle and the 3rd needle will hold the heel stitches and heel flap sts . I can not manage two circs but and this may be asking too much but I’d love to see this done on magic loop. I started the cuff and leg and heel flap and heel turn on double but I was completely lost on the pick ups so I went back to my comfort zone dpns. 😊

This was an excellent class!! I love my heel. I am loving this style of heel. It is not hard at all ... just a lot of moving parts and you have to keep track of where you are. With the markers, keeping track of things is not hard at all. This was not any kind of watching paint dry. I needed every step of this video!!!!

Thank you for giving me the courage and skills to do this! Because of how you break everything down, it has been a total pleasure! I am mesmerized by your calm voice and beautiful hands, too. :0).

Hi Denise. I watched the whole class till the end. I didn’t start knitting this part yet. I was following until the part where you said to pick up one needle with the nail polish and one without. I’m thinking it will make sense once I actually start knitting.
I’m so excited to feel I may become a sock knitter. Thank you. ❤️

I agree, I think it will make more sense once you are actually knitting it. Sometimes just following along with "theory" is hard to understand.

Thank you for this video. Your instructions are perfect. However I do normally knit magic loop, but I'm going to have a go at using two needles. I was getting a little confused when you were picking up which needle but maybe when I'm handling my own needles I'll work it out. From Central Victoria, Australia.

Denise, thank you thank you thank you!!! I have knitted socks before, but wanted to follow tour videos in this class because there are those moments, especially in the heel/gusset where I would be like “I don’t know about this, but ok...🤷🏽‍♀️” and your details really filled in the holes (no pun intended) for me! Thanks so much, and I truly appreciate you going slow and sharing these little tips (ktbl 🤯). 💗💗💗
