  • The Bell Super DH and Super Air helmets are great options in the trail, enduro, and full-face category. The Bell Super DH offers the ability to wear a half shell or full-face mountain bike helmet with that extra security. The Bell Super Air comes in a bit lighter and offers a bit more venting but can also offer half shell or full-face helmet option.

    Thanks for doing the review. I’ve been looking at the Super DH since your first review last year. Helped make my decision clearer.

      Both helmets are awesome but the Super DH kicks up the protection.

    Super Air R with the chin bar has great ventilation for me. Nice to know that there is a more secure fitting beefier DH option from Bell. Nice review Thanks!

      I really like the Super Air. Feels great on the trail. The DH is a bit heavier but has that extra protection for the bigger lines.

    I have the Air (non R) and can add some more info: the gopro mount is useless because the helmet wiggles with that extra weight due to the MIPS. Video becomes horrible and also its really unsettling to have the helmet wiggle on your head.
    For those thinking to first buy the non R version and later buy the optional chin guard: Please know that the chin guard as an extra is only available in black. I checked with Bell just recently. That does not at all seem like it OK their website, so that is important to know.
    Despite these things, it's a very comfortable and light helmet that I enjoy, but I'm considering going with a fixed fullface soon, like the Endura MT500 or Fox Proframe. A detachable chinguard seems like too much of a compromise on safety and I don't know when I would bring it on a ride and not have it attached. But I do have an ebike so sweaty climbs are less of an issue and I go fast both up and down :)

    Thanks for review. I enjoyed it. Convertible maybe the best for me.
    When I fell, dad here. My helmet trashed. The rocks scraped paint and some of the plastic. I'd be hospital to say the least. I posted a short vid of the damage. A month later back on bike and I see these kids taking rollers without a helmet. I was going to up and talk to the dad, and maybe next time I will

      The new style convertible helmets are great and light weight. I cannot imagine riding without a helmet or what my head would look like after a crash without one lol. Thanks for watching!

    Nice video. I ended up with the super DH after trying the super air R. The chin bar setup on the air R just seemed way to flexible and loose. The super DH felt like a great fitting full face helmet. Plus, very easy to put glasses on with helmet on with the DH. How well does the trax sweat band fit into the DH?

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DH is for sure a more secure helmet for going bigger. The Super Air R is more of a lighter duty helmet that offers that extra protection. The Trax Factory Sweat Buster fits really well. You trim the brow portion of the helmets liner and the Sweat Buster attaches to the stock Velcro patches already in the helmet. You can also ad extras if needed. I honestly cannot ride without one as the sweat drips right down my face. The Sweat Buster is super comfortable and is easy to install and remove for cleaning. Check it out in the link in the description of this video. Thanks for watching Ben!

    I had a Super 3R. Had a huge faceplant last autumn, helmet went straight to the collection of broken ones, along with some of my clothes. The inside foam is done for good, the whole shell twisted, so you can not latch back the chinbar properly. But, i only had a minor concussion. My super dh is on the way. So i guess the lighter ones can only take one big impact.

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think these new convertible helmets don't handle the impacts as well as a dedicated full-face. But their light weight and ventilation are nice compared to the heavier lids. The Super DH looks pretty stout.

    Hi! I have the Air R already in Large, might get the DH. Would you say sizing/fit is the same? Like I should get Large also for the DH? Thx. Hard to go to stores still and try stuff on

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very similar in size but I found the DH a more round profile both inside and out. Still very comfortable and I really like the spherical mips....feels like the safest helmet I've owned.

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wear a large. I have a big head 😆. These are great fitting helmets. The Super DH seems to have a more rounded fir and Super Air more oval. Both fit my head fine

      @stefanomarano3921 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StraightLine_MTB thanks, i decided to go for a medium size because I measured 57.5 inches and the medium is rated for 55-59cm. Since the Large's minimum size starts at 58cm, i think that will be too big for me.

    Why are 99% of the reviewers for the helmet not wearing the helmet on camera, with and without chin bar? I feel like everyone is hiding something...

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I failed to wear the DH with chinbar but it felt more substantial that the Super Air with chin bar. I'd go with Super Air as a trail helmet and DH version if you're hitting bigger lines short of DH parks.
