A simple tip anyone can use to protect themselves. If you get a phone call from a business, even if they say it's urgent, always ask for their name and company/department name so you can call them back. Any legit company will do this; most scammers won't. Then, search for how to contact that company/department yourself, and call them back (preferably from a different phone).

absolutely, I found that out years ago when a dish network scam was going around, It was bedtime and I was mentally tired so I told the scammer I would call dish network the next morning, he really tried to talk me out of it but I just snarled at him that I was tired and going to bed so he gave up finally

Be careful especially on landline phones that you have definitely ended the call, they can stay on the line.

One of the main reasons this convinces people is the scammers ability to spoof genuine numbers. I really think that is something governments & banks should do something about.

Mental mate. He’s obviously very smart being a lawyer, but when you’re asked to send money to personal accounts you stop.

Catching the initial initiation, Is the most important thing.
    1. Always check the senders email.
    2. Don’t take the initial call.
    3. Call them back on a known number.

There are professional scammers. They know your confidential accounts that only the bank knows. My mother said that I am gullible but when the scammer wants me to update my bank transactions, I get suspicious. I go to the bank myself. The bank teller denied that they send a short message service. Until now, the online app of my bank can't use. But better be this way that be scammed.

@@niazazad that’s subjective. I’m a fan of the platform but we need transparency around money to talk about it openly. This literally could have went viral if the title was something like “how I got scammed out £XXXX” it was really anti climatically when the figure wasn’t said

They have to take on this many hours to have any hope of paying debt from law school or at least recouping their investment. But, regarding the fraud itself -- man, if they have to move money so hackers don't follow it, they should be capable of stopping the hackers in the first place.

I’m gonna say the same as I always do! Why do people send money ? I don’t care how in love you are, never send anymore than you can daily afford to lose! For most of us, that’s minimal! It’s such a turn off when people ask you for money, and other than my kids, no one gets a dime from me! These dating sites are such a fake place to be! If you don’t meet the person within a few weeks, drop out, close your account!

  • @Ferdinand208

He learned nothing. Bad decision after bad decision made him give away his money. Pretending to be vigilant by asking tough questions but then waving away the bad answers. No critical thinking. And your whole life savings wasn't even worth the effort to stop working and focus. I make more of an effort when talking to the dentist on the phone than he did with his life savings.

Niaz says his state of mind affected his decision making but honestly I just think it’s worms for brains…and this is someone who was working in insurance Law?! Zero critical thinking here. Number one if anyone calls you and asks to move money the conversation is over. Period. If anyone is rushing you into making a decision, the conversation is over. Report and call a separate number of your provider to report. He didn’t learn anything. He’s incredibly lucky Monzo gave him everything back.
