Cracked me up so much during volare the way he sings "Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu" at 0:32 with that face expression, as though he was saying "the fuck you lookin at?" looool what a master performer.
Well I can tell you, the way he looks at the camera and says "faccia" which is FACE, In some parts of Old Italy, actually can mean FUCK. My Nona in the nursing.hom told her brother, when he was joking about him eating all her snacks, she flicks her hand under her chin and says to him "Faccia va!!" Which pretty much means FCK YOU in some parts. I learned some Italian from my first husband.
If I was born in this time, I would go to a lot of Dean Martin's shows! This man is an inspiration and he is the reason I got into Jazz and Italian music. I love Volare and That's Amore. He was such a beautiful person and I wish to see him in Heaven when my time is done.

It was as if to say, what the hell are "you" looking at? That's why it got a huge funny reaction. Many of the people there were Italians. For a fundraising show and they all knew it. The original "Volare" song does not translate what Dean sang in English. It was custom written for him and they tweak the lyrics here and there to make Dean sound nice & smooth and roll off the tongue much better. People that don't know any better, they accept it for what it is. The original song was written and sung by Dominico Modugno if you translate his version, you will notice it's not identical. Like I said, the lyrics were tweaked slightly to make the song rhyme.
The young people of today need to be strapped to chairs and really learn about Dino Crochetti. One of the best singers of all time and talent off the charts. Not to mention he was a scratch Golfer and could have played on the pro tour with a handicap of 6.
