  • 2 LAPS ONE DAY STIKINE [Lap 2 w/ Clutch]
Doing the 2 laps in one day was already shaping up to be an epic day out on the water, but when it lined up for us to be able to take the Clutches I was STOKED! I have been waiting years for this boat, and the Stikine was on the big list of places I knew I wanted to get it on. At the time we were at the Stikine the Clutch wasn't public yet, so finding a time to be on the water where there weren't other crews was tricky. Though it just happened to work out on our double day to take the Clutches, and it was GLORIOUS!

Not so long ago, paddling the Stikine was a once in a lifetime achievement, compared by many to climbing Everest. It's absolutely mind blowing that you guys are doing laps on it.

ya its been a trip ! The first run I ever did in 2006 we were team 23 to complete it , in 2008 I did it twice and was team 27/28. I was a bit culture shocked how the youger generation was in 2012 and a few years after .. this year after 18 years on the river and 17 runs I feel super confortable lapping and doing day trips at the ripe age of 44. In the past i was taking a lot more groups down and somtimes a year or 2 would be between laps and maybe 100 m3/s differnt from the last time, so way more on gaurd . The last 7 runs have been mostly with my friend Felix that i paddled with for the first time in 2022 on the Stikine so we kinda have a lot of repitor on the river together so it seems pretty chill and relaxed ... its kinda a crazy feeling when you feel that confortable inn such a crazy full on place and not taking a eddy through things like the whole last canyon , wall 2 - Vdrive . For me its still one of tghe most special places on earth and did change my life after the first time I ran it in 2006 . I'm lucky to live less than 6 hr from the put in too .

It's amazing how easy you make this look, considering how impossibly hard it is,

He somehow always manages to keep the bow up even in rapids where people with regular creekboats struggle

The way that water moves in some of the constricted areas is crazy...and scary. It is impressive how easy you make it look.

A double day. 'Fired up' when even the best would be flamed out. Joy to watch😂 the new Clutch.

It's interesting to see POV video of something that would cause me a terrifying death by either: a) drowning, B) impact injuries, C) hypothermia, or D) a combo of any of these. You are a Jedi Ninja!

Congratulations Dane. Another epic kayaking milestone done. Hope we get a feature length documentary at some stage… p.s. The Clutch looks like a perfect all rounder…

What's the stikine like at really low flows? Is it runnable? I imagine it still is, just nothing like what it is in this vid

it usualy doesn't get below 200 m3/s unless it s frozen over . I've personally done it as low as 220 m3/s and as high as 510 m3/s . there is deffinatly some varient in what is actually in the canyon so there is a stick and notch gauge at the Stikine bridge on 37hwy that is actually more representitive since all the tribs come in below Tanzilla for the most part . it was below the 6th notch and 6.5 on a new bolted stick gauge and we figured after looking at V drive that it was lower at 240 m3/s that time than whenn we where in there the year before at 220 m3/s . There is some dumb rumor out there that it gets harder below 300 m3/s because all the holes get bigger and ledgy but its urban folk lore .... In my opinion when its below 300 its still most likely the best river running in North America and glad it is since sometimes i have to work rafting and or fish guiding in august and cant get there for summer time laps .

@@coreyboux15 Cool. Does it get more creeky below 300 or does it still feel just as big like it would be above 300?

@@jehu-kayak definaly still big water just more time in between moves and waves aren't as big but not always . C-hole just above the wall 1 is actually worse and there is one above hole that ate chicago we started calling deep dish that isnt realy there at higher flows but we figured out a good line on it now. I've probably got 6 runs now under 300 m3/s . Its fun at any level really . The first time i did it in early August (2010 ) i said that doing it with warmer weather and water took 1/2 a grade off the river .
