      What the: Surprisingly I’ve never heard of a competent whitewater kayaker getting paralyzed doing this stuff. Numerous deaths however - almost always due to getting pinned underwater - not from the impact. The only thing that makes these drops possible is the highly aerated water at the bottom - it’s the perfect mixture of air and water. Pure water would be way too hard of an impact.

    Getting a birds eye drone view of this drop makes it so hard to believe the world record waterfall drop in a kayak exceeds 200 ft. It's hard to imagine such a fall even being possible when run perfectly. Put I'll say this drop looked even scarier than Palouse Falls, which looks much deeper by comparison. Makes me wonder whether Dane did anything to gauge the actual depth at the base of the drop?

      You have to adjust as you go down. With a fall this tall, you wanna enter the water with your boating point straight down. Throwing the paddle means it can't hit you in the face of impact

    Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but why does the feed cut off for the drop? Then back on when he's in the water? Is it possible for go-pro's to get overloaded or something?

    I really want to see the rest of the shot at 10:30...how long does it take to come back up?!?

    • @JayMartMedia
      @JayMartMedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a glimpse of the pink kayak at 10:33
      He popped out of the kayak though and ends up to the right and behind the waterfall (in relation to the camera angle), so I'm not sure what the rest of the shot would look like. Probably just an empty kayak floating by eventually, and them walking out from behind the waterfall.

    So what's the difference between swimming off the waterfall vs on a kayak? Like if a regular person swam off this waterfall, they would survive right? granted they had a life vest and can hold their breath

    • @johnhoush4366
      @johnhoush4366 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a few differences. The kayak has a lot of buoyancy, so the decent into the water is slowed down to prevent you from hitting the floor. The kayak is still pointy, because at that height, hitting water flat would be like hitting concrete.
      Depending on the depth, going over out of your kayak would likely injure you or kill you. I've gone over waterfalls, but never anything like this. 35' has been my max, but I think I was close to as excited as he was at 134'.

    • @zeffery101
      @zeffery101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnhoush4366 like hitting water flat on kayak or jumping? cuz I'm pretty sure jumping in feet first has the same effect. And he fell out of his kayak halfway through and he was fine, which is why I ask.
      35' is still crazy to me!

    • @johnhoush4366
      @johnhoush4366 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zeffery101 in the kayak, landing flat would kill you, or paralyze you at least. Jumping without a kayak, would likely cause you to penetrate too deep, and kill you too, as you do not have the buoyancy of the kayak to slow your descent into the water. You also have to have the knowledge to read the water, and figure out where to land. There were boulders in play, as well.
