Brandon Gris I legit just watched this video for the first time (I’ve seen it live, just not the video), paused it, and texted my buddy to say “this is the most romantic song I’ve ever heard in my life.” I know from his shows he’s passed the “wedding” stage bc I’ve never seen ANY fucking thing like the energy he can get from a small opening crowd. I watched him open for HUGE bands and upstage them. Still... what gorgeous, real love songs. I fucking love it. If I win the lottery and I’m stupid enough to marry again, I’ll spend it all on this.

Not putting this guy on a pedestal or anything of that sort but there are few musicians that elevated into artistry. It’s disturbing and actually beautiful at the same time. He’s fucking with the taboo, making clear cut with intention but he’s pulling it off without and theatrics. This and the dreamer lyrics are goddamn grotesque and disturbing that you hope he’s on a watch list but the songs are amazing enough to look past them.

Saw him on his first tour, in a dive bar, to a crowd of 10. I’m a metalhead, and expected acoustic versions of Slayer. We met him and he said ‘I play folk songs about murder.’ He really surprised and impressed us. A few years later, he cane back through and sold out our second biggest venue. There’s a big scene for dark bluegrass here.
