You're an absolute gem of a song writer. Please don't stop. I imagine it is difficult; but, please, know that there are people absolutely moved by what you do. "I'd cry a hundred times for you, no matter what you'd do."
I agree with this statement 100% but, I also think it is an undersell of his vulnerable songwriting that we don’t get to see very much. So yes, protect this person and allow them to continue to express for us that can’t do the same with such passion. ❤
I first read your comment and thought "no, way. Its a dark romantic song." And now every time I listen to it, I picture him holding a bottle of liquor, and it makes complete sense. Having family members who suffer from it, 100%. Congrats to you on overcoming it!

First song I’ve ever heard from you. My friend directed me towards you. My intuition told me this one. My whole body is shaking. So heavy. Every emotion I had to my ex. I gave my life to him. He sat and watched as I was bleeding out onto the brand new blue and grey retro area rug he just got for our anniversary. Blood sprayed everywhere from hitting my main artery in my right wrist and cutting through the nerve canals. He was sexually, verbally, mentally and physically abusive. Yet I loved him unconditionally. I stayed high on any form of substance to hide away from his torture till the last 9 months I was in a state of psychosis. My life was spared that night. "Son, never trust a man who doesn’t drink because he’s probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They’re the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They’re usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they’re a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can’t trust a man who’s afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It’s damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he’s heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl." -James Crumely
I dont drink anymore but dont mind a beer with a meal had a steak dinner two beers a little after my divorce went to see my two girls and on way home had food was a bit tipsy and sad after leaving my my kids so my eyes started leaking lol
Can confirm, will never get drunk because I am deathly afraid of the dark shit I'll blurt out when I get drunk. I don't know who I am when I take the heavy reigns off and I never wanna know.
I couldn't love this harder. My ex of 12 years died of an OD. Devastated me. I wanted to die with him, instead, I got clean. It's been 3 years, and I know I made the right decision lol, but some days... I feel like this.
One of my buddies told me about him growing up at 14 crawling thru his hall way in apartments army crawling because of his addiction. At his 21st bday woke up to his girl overdosed next to him, she didn't make it back. His dad a sheriff, him known as the black sheep of the family. Get thru it and keep going. As he did, respect to those who are trying to find another day to live making it day by day. 🙏
Yeah, I don't see a lot of people mentioning it in the comments but that little blink he does at the end says it all - when he performs he seems to be possesed, totally indulged with the sound and lyrics and when he's done he looks like he needs a second to take in his surrondings and come off the high that is for him performing.
I thought this dude looked crazy as hell when I watched it the first time.. but I downloaded it and I still come back and watch and listen cuz it's actually kinda beautifully crazy.
It‘s nice to know that there are still men out there who aren‘t ashamed of crying. No matter if you‘re a grown man, it‘s always okay to show emotions. In my opinion, that‘s what makes people so human and relatable. So no need to hide the tears. I really hope this doesn‘t seem weird but you know, it‘s okay to cry. Even as a grown man.

Who could possibly give this a thumbs down?! This song is my new addiction. Out of the 1M+ views, you can guarantee 900k are me, alone. “I wanna be where all the stupid shit I say sounds so romantic and true”. He’s speaking my love language. Love you, Amigo!

Man, the person I loved the most.. we drifted apart. it’s been about a year and a half and I’m still in love with him. This song reminds me of our love and friendship.
This passed by in my spotify Discover Weekly... Immediately grabbed my attention. This is amazing. Apparently it's over 4 years old but it's entirely new to me :)
Does anyone else feel like this isn't a love song to a woman... but to alcohol? It's been on my mind that this may be the songs actual point. If this is obvious don't laugh at me lol.
I was sceptical at first, but “I wanna be where all the stupid shit I say sounds so romantic and true”, typical of certain inebriated folk. “Take the shot, see this chance, feel the fire and let me have this dance” could be the liquor speaking to him, or him convincing himself that’s where he wants to be. In the studio version the song actually slows a little after he says this, giving off a sort of intoxicated effect. Dunno if it’s at all accurate but I wouldn’t have seen it if I wasn’t there myself one time, an amazing song either way
This is mine and my boyfriends song. I'll scream this at the top of my lungs at our wedding :) I know its supposed to maybe be a sad song about a toxic or unhealthy or long lost relationship but when I listen to it I get all these memories of my bf and I in our beginnings and the passion and strength of loyalty we have for each other. Yes id rot in hell with him. Home is the last place id be with someone that isnt him. I love this song so much.
Wish my ex wife felt that way, the same as me. Then MAYBE we'd still be together. She didn't even cry at our wedding. Your man has a keeper, a good person, no matter what happens, who you are, or what you've been through. We all deserve a lover who thinks this strongly of them. God bless and I hope you have a happy life with him.

Some people hear a romantic song. I hear a reminder of how much an addict can put their substance above everything else. Hauntingly beautiful song.
Sadly, romantic love can be addicting and spiral lives out of control. It doesn’t happen to most, but it does happen.

Went to the bar
To get a little closer to myself and learn
Things I never really wanted to know
The walk got a little far
So I got into a cab that smelled like vinegar
Stains that showed what's in the girl before
[Bridge 1]
But I want to be
Where all the stupid things I say
Sounds so romantic and true
[Chorus]
Cause I'd rot in hell with you
If you'd just ask me to
I love the shitty things we do together

But you couldn't name a place I wouldn't go with you
A plane, a train, a car, I'd run
If I was dead I'd float
I'd crawl in bed with you
Even on someone else's blood
On top of someone else's love
In the worst motel we find
[Bridge 2]
Cause home is the last place
That I'd stand to be with anyone but you
[Chorus]
Cause I'd rot in hell with you
If you'd just ask me to
I love the shitty things we do together
Live with me in this sin forever
Hell, and you -
I know you want it too
I say, take the shot, see this chance
Feel the fire and let me have this

It’s damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he’s heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."
-James Crumely
So where does a sober alcoholic fit in there?
I dont drink anymore but dont mind a beer with a meal had a steak dinner two beers a little after my divorce went to see my two girls and on way home had food was a bit tipsy and sad after leaving my my kids so my eyes started leaking lol
Can confirm, will never get drunk because I am deathly afraid of the dark shit I'll blurt out when I get drunk. I don't know who I am when I take the heavy reigns off and I never wanna know.
@@yurmumsgjey you don't have too get drunk but you should know your demons well.
@@urso656zhu7 - Absolutely.
This song is so awesome. A kind of addiction, that makes me wanna listen to it again and again. The best love song i've listened in months
Wow!! I'm seriously blown away by this, his voice, his words, his look in his eyes, all are simply..... Perfect..
I couldn't love this harder.
My ex of 12 years died of an OD. Devastated me. I wanted to die with him, instead, I got clean. It's been 3 years, and I know I made the right decision lol, but some days... I feel like this.
Julianna H5782 Bless you and keep on keeping on!
Srry for your loss I've lost my wife and she not dead love hurts
2 and a half and I feel you congrats on the 3 years
One of my buddies told me about him growing up at 14 crawling thru his hall way in apartments army crawling because of his addiction. At his 21st bday woke up to his girl overdosed next to him, she didn't make it back. His dad a sheriff, him known as the black sheep of the family. Get thru it and keep going. As he did, respect to those who are trying to find another day to live making it day by day. 🙏
❤️
Every note and syllable is a poem on it's own. I adore this.
The eyes say it all... spectacular!
Yeah, I don't see a lot of people mentioning it in the comments but that little blink he does at the end says it all - when he performs he seems to be possesed, totally indulged with the sound and lyrics and when he's done he looks like he needs a second to take in his surrondings and come off the high that is for him performing.
This song just sent me down a rabbit hole of your entire catalog. Amazing is an understatement
found out about this guy as he opened for dropkick murphys in pensacola the other day. he's amazing!
I live in Pensacola too! I discovered him today :((
The open air recording of this is so beautiful
I thought this dude looked crazy as hell when I watched it the first time.. but I downloaded it and I still come back and watch and listen cuz it's actually kinda beautifully crazy.
I know an existential crisis when I see one. Same, dude. Stay strong. We can make it through this.
My daughter shared this song with me. It perfectly describes the love between me and my late husband.
I’m a grown man and every time I listen to this song it can almost bring a tear to my eye.
YOU, SHAWN JAMES, BEN CAPLAN AND COLTER WALL NEED TO COLLABORATE ON AN ALBUM 🤘🤘🤘🤘
And Benjamin tod lol
If mr childers joined that album or song would break the universe
@@vegitogogeta4110 hell yeah bruv, I just checked him out 🤘
Ben Caplan is awesome!
And Jesse Stewart
This song, this performance, is magical in a way that is akin to "you had to be there".
You are a MASTER story teller with the voice of a beautiful fallen angel ❤️
So raw and beautiful. You sing about the dark desires that are in so many of us. Keeping singing on Brother xoxo
This is my favorite version of this song he does by far. its just so raw, just him and his banjo and so emotional
This is by far one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard
Last night my husband and I were singing this all night. Gonna check more of thos cat out. Fantastic voice and sound
Thank you for all the wonderful music you've gifted into my life. When i first found your music I was in a really bad place mentaly and hearing your music has helped me remmber that not everything's shitty in life and this video made me cry thank you for being all of our amigos.
I used to listen to this song all of the time. Completely forgot about it for MONTHS. Re-discovered it. Became obsessed with it all over again.
“Went to the bar to get a little closer to myself and the parts I never really wanted to know”
First line and it’s my favorite part
Forgot about this legendary piece of music for a few years. Glad im back.
I looked up "Murderfolk" and this is what came up.
Bridge City Sinners is a great murderfolk band as well
@@amberdowns911 I have to look them up.
Harley Poe is another good murderfolk and I think they toured together recently too !!

Absolutely incredible voice and lyerics! I am in love!! Been listening to this song on repeat for 3 days!!
This is so raw for me because I feel that I look the exact same when I play music.. no discernable eye contact because I'm playing back into my own head.. And the romantization of a bender with your beloved despite knowing how wrong it is but how close it brings you two together in that moment...
I love the new songs but this is my favorite of them all. Can't wait to see you live again.
Amigo will not only blow up. But stay on top which is the hardest part.
I'm really thinking about walking down the isle to this song at my wedding. It makes my heart just melt. It's absolutely beautiful.
This is so beautiful. I feel the pain in your voice. I love Amigo the Devil!!
He was incredible in San Antonio. One of my favorite shows in a very long time.
I wanted to go to that so badly but I was at work in West Texas
Who could possibly give this a thumbs down?! This song is my new addiction. Out of the 1M+ views, you can guarantee 900k are me, alone. “I wanna be where all the stupid shit I say sounds so romantic and true”. He’s speaking my love language. Love you, Amigo!
1.6 million i didnt even realize my nigga blew up. With Days N daze having a charting album is this the start of a folk punk revolution? Nah but maybe like it becoming more mainstream in the alt stream lol
saw him at a concert last night, in all honesty he was the best, I had never heard of him before last night but here I am now.
What a songwriter!!
Bravo' You described 20 years of my life emotionally, so eloquently the first time I hear this I broke down in tears. Being a tough ranch girl that never happens, bravo'
Awesome tune with great dark lyrics that tell dark personal story thru my open intepertation of many songwriters!!!
Daaaaaaaaaamn! Best video ever. I cannot wait anymore to see you here in México! Domination fest!!!!
This song is on repeat. Ive never heard a more perfect song. Im addicted to it.
Man, the person I loved the most.. we drifted apart. it’s been about a year and a half and I’m still in love with him. This song reminds me of our love and friendship.
hope things work out for the best, what ever that might turn to be
This passed by in my spotify Discover Weekly... Immediately grabbed my attention. This is amazing.
Apparently it's over 4 years old but it's entirely new to me :)
My wife and I love this song so much it was our first dance at our wedding last week
Greetings from Serbia, hats off you are damn poet.
Does anyone else feel like this isn't a love song to a woman... but to alcohol? It's been on my mind that this may be the songs actual point.
If this is obvious don't laugh at me lol.
Cheers.
No. It's a love song to heroin
Both and neither and all of it. Much love to you.
Dunno if it’s at all accurate but I wouldn’t have seen it if I wasn’t there myself one time, an amazing song either way
It is interpreted as both
His voice and eyes are showing the closest thing that we as humans can genuinely show what it's like being "madly in love".
@@bkain1762 unfortunately since posting this comment he and I have gone separate ways. He decided he would rather yell and break me down than work together to build each other up. I won't stand for it, so I moved on. Now I'm with a new lovely gentleman. Long time friend, we dated in the past. 6 months strong right now and moving into an apartment together soon :)
@@howtohuman6903 Glad you moved on and are doing well. It gives me hope, best of luck to you both.
Holy crap this song is awesome.
My ex split 9 months ago. Was with her for 4 years and she ghosted me a month into a job i got to start supporting us and get us off our feet. I havent been able to play my guitar since so when i do play i feel like im gonna look just as frantic and crazy as this guy when i get hit with the random mood swings. Not to knock the look you make when you play, i think its totally awesome and makes it interesting to watch especially when you throw in those deep voiced lines like "IF I WAS DEAD I'D- float"
Edit: 3 years later and i can tell you his personality doesnt just split when the voice goes deep. It splits in moments where he says "i want to be, where all the stupid shit i say..." where as the studio recording says "alll the stupid things i say..."
The ONLY artist that makes music that relates to me like a mirror. The thoughts of your lyrics corse through my veins like the devil.
Check out Ren
Gothbilly mopey romantic is my aesthetic. This is amazing.
One of my favorites. Also, nicest dude in the world if you meet him after one of his shows. Thanks, man.
I can second this talked to him for about 15 minutes the other day
Just saw you live in Spokane back in January; the first time I ever hung out with my girlfriend, I showed her "Perfect Wife" and a second fan was born. We listen to your music all the time, and we're getting close to our first anniversary.
So it was pretty awesome our first concert together was seeing you.
Keep up the great music and hope to see you out this way again soon!
Discovered this from Another man's grave and continuously been impressed with each song.
