I used to be all about the Space Ritual era but they hit a stride with Quark and Levitation and Black Sword that I think is their best era, with their best of many guitarists, Huw Lloyd Langdon.
My uncle gave me space ritual and masters of the universe in the late 80’s when he began updating toCD’s. Absolutely loved this bands early stuff. We would set the speakers up with our heads between them, take a few mushrooms and just glide. Thanks for the flashback mate😂😂😂
It's D7 to D7sus4 and D7sus2 in Space is Deep. Paradox has always been on Hall of the Mountain Grill but Seven by Seven wasn't originally on In Search of Space, it was the b-side of Silver Machine.
Hawkwind have always been a great band through their various phases. Huw Lloyd-Langton was a great guitarist who played with Hawkwind for many years, he had a distinctive sound and style, his playing complemented Dave Brock's guitar work very well, especially their Levitation (1980) album has some really great guitar moments.
Didn't expect this one, so sincere thanks. Probably worth doing a small episode on Huw Lloyd-Langton (RIP), especially The Chronicles of the Black Sword and Live Chronicles......AND if you haven't, check out the Ozric Tentacles for a more progressive take on Space Rock, with perhaps more focus on musicianship.
Ever heard any Ozric Tentacles? Their albums Pungent Effulgent up to around the millennium in particular are psychedelic masterpieces with guitar playing that is just outrageous.
Got chills hearing D Rider at the start. Those records going back to the mid 80s for me & still playing. Had a feeling the Motorhead episode might lead to this. Only on this channel! Ty again
Brilliant Dave thank you ☺️ A few 80s album suggestions for you would be.. 1 Chronicles of the Black Sword 2 Live Chronicles 3 out and in take 4 Levitation 90s Space bandits Electric Tepee
Many great and wonderful Hawkwind albums. One of my favourites is Quark, Strangeness and Charm. Was hoping you were going to relate to the story behind the Urban Guerilla track/single - a really fun song to listen to and play along with 😁
Thanks, Dave. Another great show. My go-to Hawkwind album is Live Chronicles, a live performance of The Chronicle of the Black Sword concept album, based on the Michael Moorcock chracter Elric of Melniboné.
Yeah i saw them in 1978 they called themselves hawklords then temporarily and they were so good i cant explain man i was 15 then and in high school it was my first concert what a first concert it was calvert on vocal
Hawkwind rules! Welcome Sir! Hope you continue to enjoy your space rock exploration, hope you find time to check out Eloy, Ozric Tentacles, Gong, and Tangerine Dream to name just a few.
One of my favourite bands, love that you're getting into them! Saw them play last year for the first time in London. I got into them when someone gave me a mix tape mostly of stuff from the Palace Springs album, not too much guitar in there but there are some sublime songs like The Golden Void. A related compilation tribute album Daze of the Underground I recommend. I'm transposing Moonglum from Chronicles of the Black Sword -Live, hoping I can play it one day; that and Quark, Strangeness and Charm are my favourite Hawkwind albums.
Thanks Dave. I wondered if you'd link to Hawkwind from Motorhead. A few albums have been mentioned....Levitation and Quark, Strangeness and Charm (checkout the track Hassan I Sahba if you haven't already- more phrygian?). I'd also give Choose your Masques a try especially for Huw Lloyd-Langton's work. Great lesson.👍
I'm also a fan of that era in particular but Amazing Sounds, Quark and Electric Teepee are fine albums too. You should also check out the first three lps by both Guru Guru and Amon Duul 2. Dave Anderson (whose gear/gig Lemmy stole when he joined Hawkwind) played with Amon Duul 2. Fantastic video, thank you.
Dave - awesome lesson. I'm a huge Hawkwind fan - of all eras. May I recommend the band Amplifier to you and other Space Rockers? They're not really a Hawkwind soundalike but I reckon you'll appreciate them, starting with their eponymous Album.
Thanks for the heads up on this band! Always loved Satanic Majesty’s and Magical Mystery Tour so this is a great transition. You may also want to check out a band called Black Mountain. Very spacey/trippy. Listen to “Wucan” and “Mother of the Sun” as your gateway into their catalogue. Hope you like them! Really awesome content lately brother👍👍🎸🎸🎸
Quark, Strangeness and Charm is a masterpiece
Agreed, Robert Calvert's lyrics are at their absolute best on this, especially Spirit of the Age.
I used to be all about the Space Ritual era but they hit a stride with Quark and Levitation and Black Sword that I think is their best era, with their best of many guitarists, Huw Lloyd Langdon.
Damn! Fast Eddy, Motörhead , Hawkwind… that’s a roll!

so true! esp. the solo on Levitation
13:25 Man that riff is absolutely driven. Love stuff like that. Thanks for turning me on to Hawkwind.
70s rock is a never ending supply of amazement to me. Awesome lesson.
Thanks, Dave - your excitement is infectious!
Very nice your new D'Angelico David !🤘Love Hawkwind.
Didn't expect this one, so sincere thanks.

That mix of simple riffs, the power of Lemmy's overdriven bass, and the drums of Simon King were incredibly powerful, just pure hypnotic groove.
When I saw this lesson I was stoked thank you love Hawkwind
This is absolutely outstanding content, you have great taste.
Ever heard any Ozric Tentacles? Their albums Pungent Effulgent up to around the millennium in particular are psychedelic masterpieces with guitar playing that is just outrageous.
Great band , great lesson, great teacher...nice new guitar that came with a gig bag.😎
Got chills hearing D Rider at the start. Those records going back to the mid 80s for me & still playing. Had a feeling the Motorhead episode might lead to this. Only on this channel! Ty again
This is great!
Hawkwind is amazing. Thanks for the video! You're the best!

Nice ❤ once again another great lesson so many styles 💯 appreciate it sir

D Rider & Master of the Universe are Nik Turner tunes. Thanks a million for this one!
Master of the Universe is a Dave Brock riff (perhaps also Dave Anderson) with Nik Turner lyrics.
The guitar may be simple but it serves the song brilliantly!
You should have a listen to Steve Hillage, used to be in Gong
Absolutely, Fish Rising is insanely good.
@digger6663 used to have a double album called live at the Herald, 1 disk was studio and the other live, was phenomenal 👏
@@iansawyer3043 Live Herald is brilliant. He has more live albums up on his Bandcamp.

Check out Helios Creed / Chrome for the ultimate in psychedelic metal. His discography is huge.
I fucking love Hawkwind...🚀🛸🙏
Haven't thought of them in a loooong while. I used to have the vinyl of Sonic Attack, but this was lost in the transition to CDs, I guess.
Levitation is one of their best with the legend Ginger Baker on Drums! Epic! Also check out Hawklords!!!
Thanks for the heads up on this band! Always loved Satanic Majesty’s and Magical Mystery Tour so this is a great transition. You may also want to check out a band called Black Mountain. Try Palace Springs, Electric Teepee brilliant HAWKWIND.
Check out the Albums, Levitation, Electric Teepee... Awesome ✌️👍
Listen to Moonglum, Huw Lloyd Langton. That era of Hawkind with him on vocals and lead guitar was amazing 🎸
Hunger reigns!
In the mall
At the Burger King!
Oh yeah!!!
Space is deep, Dude
FIRST!😅
For me, the best Hawkwind album is "The Chronicles of the Black Sword".
Each to their own but for me it's my least favourite hawkwind album of all until Road to Utopia
