The Netflix version of The Mist is AWFUL!

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: For all those who are confused about me referring to The Mist as a Netflix show - The Mist is on the Netflix portal as a "Netflix Original," which means that they have purchased the property, and so that's why it is totally correct to refer to it as the 'Netflix version' or the 'Netflix TV series' See here: ibb.co/cUxw1v
    Netflix has just released a series length adaption of the Stephen King short story and Frank Darabont movie adaption of The Mist, and it's ATROCIOUS!

      I have read the Mist and I fucking love this show! As a series it was incredibly adapted. the oricinal is so short that liberties had to be taken to make it a series! The reason people didn't like the mist series is because it's too smart for audiences. It actually makes you think and go beyond the what show gives you. This is a phenomenal show and fuck any moron who doesn't get it. I am so sick of the fucking dumb ass fuckers that are to stupid to have intellectual integrity.

    I hated the scene in the last episode where the girl got grabbed by the mist creature, because they did it SO POORLY. Earlier, the little girl gets killed within maybe 10-20 seconds. But then the older girl was spared for no apparent reason. Then, later, AGAIN FOR NO APPARENT REASON, she gets caught by the monster and it starts poorly-cgiing her to death. But it holds onto her, and the camera holds for too long, then it goes to another scene. Then it flips back to her, holding on again for too many seconds, then back to the others. Then back to her 'dying' then back to the others then back to her 'dying.' Then she gets saved by a dude, and he dies WITHIN SECONDS. What the FUCK is happening? It's laughable. I regret giving it a chance, the show sucked.

      Rongo Faaosofia i actually think it was too much about the mist. Adding arrow head plots, the mist having this presence that mind fucks people leading to this mystery that seems to demand answers, the mist itself is a character rather than a backdrop for unspeakable monsters to be unleashed. Like the video said if they were all happy functioning people at first it could of been a nice character driven show showing how horrible scared and desperate people can become.. With a few cool monster kills thrown in for the sake of occasional spectacle.

    • @FallenSnowWolf
      @FallenSnowWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is right that It is now a "Netflix Original" but looking it to this could mean they either own the rights to the show or simply bought to make it an exclusive to "Netflix".

    • @Reacted1991
      @Reacted1991 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FallenSnowWolf ok here's what I don't get how is it a Netflix original if it started on spike if Netflix bought it witch I personally think would be a waste of money looking at the quality of the show but I digress since Netflix bought it wouldn't it still be a spike original series since they originally produced it Netflix has many other networks shows in their library like walking dead sons of anarchy spardacus family guy ect. Why ain't they labled as Netflix originals but this show is it doesn't make since to me

    • @FallenSnowWolf
      @FallenSnowWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am guessing that Spike wanted to get rid of it because it was on Netflix before or just as the final episode aired so they either sold it to Netflix for dirt cheap or Netflix only bought the ability to air it exclusively to Netflix. Maybe Netflix took it and they will develop the second season. Netflix themselves never really produce anything they just fund production. I am hoping, and this is a big hop is that is that Netflix will take over and say "There is something really good we can work with so lets say, fuck season one and make season two what people want". I can see what they were going for but I think the over the top leftist view was meant to be satirical but it did not come off as that and with the bad writing and poor characters it was not good. I think they where really poking fun at the left because every Left leaning cliche characters ended up being giant dicks while the Rapist Jock was the hero.
      So if Netflix now owns the rights then they will have the power to make season two and could redeem the show. We will have to wait. It just pothers me because everyone rips into Netflix but all they do is fund the stuff to have it exclusive so they can make money first. The show Puss In Boots was a Netflix original but is now on Disney I think. So to me "Netflix Original" just means that they broadcast it first not that they own rights.

    • @Reacted1991
      @Reacted1991 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      FallenSnowWolf you know the funny thing is talking about who actually owns the show now is actually more interesting than the actual show itself

      Yes, they purchased the rights AFTER Spike made Season 1. Netflix owns it and has branded it as a Netflix Original. But, they haven't actually made or produced any content for the series themselves.
      All they've done so far is gotten ownership of the property, and re-aired Season 1 that Spike made.
      If there's any future content made off the property, yes, you could blame Netflix for it. But, if you're going to try and call out a show's issues. You should put blame where it belongs. Spike screwed this up.

      Left Foot Media well I just went on Netflix and searched the mist and it wasn't on there not even the movie was on there looked up the trailer it was on spike's TH-cam channel I even looked it up on Wikipedia and it says original network was spike so I'm 100% sure this is not a Netflix show now I know it's hard to admit when someone wrong about something but you made a mistake were human it happens it really isn't a big of a deal especially since this is such a crappy show. Ordinarily, when I hear that a movie or TV show sucks, part of me feels more than a bit bad for all of the people that probably worked hard to make that movie or tv series a reality. Countless hours writing and re-writing screenplays, making the sets and costumes, putting in the special effects....everything.
    And then I hear there was SJW agendas mixed into the thing, and instantly all remorse is replaced with relief and joy.
    GOOD! FAIL! FAAAAAIL!!
    I'm glad this series bombed, if it was just another vessel for that SJW bullshit.
    Not only that, I hope the people behind this thing lost a shit ton of money and have to have this spectacular failure follow them around for the rest of their lives.
    Stop trying to socially engineer society, you pricks!

  • @diojiwoolf
    @diojiwoolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This was a Weinstein brothers production under their Dimension Television brand, originally aired on Spike TV, and was picked up for international distribution by Netflix. The only reason you would call it the Netflix version of The Mist is the same reason they slap on the "Original" label, shameless click-bait. If you can't get basic facts about the series correct, why should I stick around for your opinion?

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's on Netflix as a "Netflix Original' - so clearly they own rights to it, and it is absolutely correct to refer to it as the 'Netflix version' - why should I trust anything else YOU say if you get so hung up on something so trivial that isn't even incorrect on my part.

    • @diojiwoolf
      @diojiwoolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because I'm not attempting to make videos on youtube, I don't care what you think of my opinion on the show's quality and everything else I said is a verifiable fact. Take the constructive criticisms and change the misleading title of your video or continue to recieve negative feedback. Everyone knows your just trying to troll for more views by including Netflix in your description and title. Just because a company owns the rights for international distribution doesn't mean it's affiliated with the production, something which you talk about at length during the beginning of your video. Where you fail to mention basic facts like who produced the show or who wrote it.

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like I said - you are obsessing over a VERY trivial detail that has no bearing on the rest of anything else I say in the video. And no, this is not about trolling for views - I have called it the Netflix version because it is on the Netflix portal as a "Netflix Original" - which obviously makes it the
      Netflix Version' (unless of course you plan to accuse them of trolling by labelling it as a Netflix original show.)

    • @diojiwoolf
      @diojiwoolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You keep saying that like it's some ironclad defense without responding to my main criticism, your lack of real information about the production of the show and the potential for misinformation on who created it to be spread. I'm not obsessing over this one detail, it's just the only part of your video I found worth commenting on.
      Of course I am accusing Netflix of fishing for views by calling it an "original" series, that way they can market it on their homepage under a big banner. They do it all the time with foreign shows on Netflix and Hulu to attract new viewers with their brand recognition, the same people who will click on your video thinking this show is somehow comparable to House of Cards, not the other junk that airs on Spike TV. At least my comment will help to clarify that for your viewers.

      Yes, you're right, but it would have to have been crafted completely differently - all of the characters would have needed to be in one single location, with almost no movement outside that location, and anyone who leaves the location would need to all but disappear from the plot - this would heighten the claustrophobia, fear, and intensity that is needed to drive this story and keep it interesting.

    Funny I don't think of shows bought by Netflix as a "Netflix show"... in fact, I feel like it is misleading, after all Netflix didn't commission the show-- the American cable network Spike TV bought and developed the show and Netflix bought the distribution rights worldwide. They do it all the time. I notice it with foreign shows all the time. It might be "original" for a particular territory but in the commonly understood sense it is not an original like 'House of Cards'.

      I haven't read the book, and barely remember wathcing the movie. I went into this with an open mind, but what we got isn't really the Mist but rather a terrible attempt at making some sort of Mist/Silent Hill hybrid.

    LMAO!! But this is why the show is good! The 1 dimensional characters combined with the horrific writing makes everyone look like morons that you just want to see die in every episode. And the strange editing choices really serve to add to the hilarity of some of the scenes.

    The new mist TV series was made for Spike TV not Netflix

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's on Netflix as a 'Netflix Original' - so they now own the property.

    • @Garrisonwithaz
      @Garrisonwithaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was produced by Spike though then bought by Netflix... Would you call the first seasons of Arrested Development or Black Mirror as Netflix originals? Definitely not, but they are also listed as Netflix originals... I feel like this title is click bait.... many people on here are just commenting to let you know it's not created by Netflix... All the problems you have with the series were created by SPIKE TV. Don't shoot the supplier but the creator. If you're going to call something a Netflix version you should probably make sure Netflix produced it...

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nowhere do I blame Netflix for these problems at all - they are writing, directing, producing, and acting issues. This isn't about clickbait at all, this is simply about identifying a TV series as it is currently being marketed - as a "Netflix Original." It doesn't make one single bit of difference to me, or the points I make in this video who the owner of the TV series is, in this case it merely happens to be Netflix.

    • @Garrisonwithaz
      @Garrisonwithaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Left Foot Media I'm just saying a lot of these comments seem to be about how it is not Netflix so why not just change it to Spike's The Mist in the title instead. It's drawing more attention than the video itself

    About the SJW propaganda: I agreed, until the show made what Jay had been accused of doing less clear-cut. It was clear from early on that maybe he wasn't quite as guilty as we'd been made to think.

    I felt like this show felt more like a psychological horror tv series dealing more with the Mist than the creatures.

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would have been awesome if it had done that - but it never really developed that idea properly, and mainly because it lacked the claustrophobia to really create great psychological tension.

    • @Wutang2099z
      @Wutang2099z 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Left Foot Media Think about it. The way every person on the show reacted differently to the Mist it was almost psychologic lol😂 It was a good show but its downfall was not having the Alien monsters. Gotta love that tentacle monster from the movie. That's what sucks about people bashing the show. No room to see how Season 2 could have been.

    • @LeftFootMediaNZ
      @LeftFootMediaNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that they showed us in season one that they had no real vision for the source material - they were just trying a bunch of different ideas, and in the process they lost the heart of what the source material so effective as a story.

    I thought it was at least interesting and unique in a way, with how they made the mist work at first. I didn't mind the social commentary, it's pretty accurate to what I've seen happen at schools and communities in my country. However the last few episodes were going downhill in terms of quality, things started making less sense and it felt odd, characters were stupid before but DAMN the last few episodes were just weird... and the last episode fking sealed this show's fate. It was plain stupid, unsatisfying, no payoffs really except for a few here and there, so many loose ends and things that don't make sense, from character actions (looking at you Jonah) to the plot overall and more. It seems they wanted more than one season judging by the loose ends, and that's just fking bonkers. The last episode was absolute rubbish and I couldn't hate it more.
    So in conclusion, it started off with potential but ended up being disappointing and terrible.
