I read "Survivor Type" thirty years ago, and have thought of it many times through the decades. Out of all the thousand of stories I have read, this one stuck!
"Welllll, shit." I was expecting it and still burst out laughing! I love these podcasts and the little gags he does at the end of each one. Another brilliant video.
"Survivor Type" is the first and, so far, only Stephen King story I've had to stop halfway through just to settle my stomach and get my breath. I was just not prepared for it. I'm an audiobook user as reading can be a challenge for me, and between the narrator and the actual story, it was just TOO much. I enjoy it more now that I know what's coming. I like to pair it with "Chattery Teeth." Go dark, then, go silly. And they both involve biting. (Kathy Bates narrates the Audible version of Chattery Teeth, BTW)
just found this channel today because of the overlook strange resort video and have been binging every video since. I LOVE Stephen King. This channel is amazing!
@@kamp_ai Great to hear from someone else who felt the same! Reading the short story 'The Survivor Type' was horrific- despite the main character being a despicable human being! ✌️🐨
I read this one as a kid with all the other stories in the book, some reason i have always remembered this one and it’s probably my favorite short story period.
The ending could have been: Mrs. T stayed on the Island and in the morning the boat had disappeared, both looked at each other and his first thought was "I'm glad I have my pocket knife" DunDunDahhhhhhh.
This channel is an absolute gem. Crazy how few subs it has considering how well done every video is. The effort you put into the voice acting and atmosphere is just awesome.
Anyone else think of "Mrs. Todds Shortcut" when "Ms. T" says "I know a shortcut."? I paused the video to write this, so maybe it's mentioned later.....
Of course Mrs. T=Mrs. Todd! She says so herself: Homer (Buckland) was her co-pilot. "Mrs. Todd's Shortcuts" is my favorite story. Greetings from Germany, by the way! I am so very happy to have found this channel. ❤
I will never forget reading this story when I was 14 or 15. My Nana was a big King fan and when I was around 12, she realized I was both a big horror lover and a voracious reader, so she told me to go through her bookshelf full of King and pick out anything I liked. I had been doing this for years and was obsessed with his works. When I read Survivor Type though, I put his books down for quite some time. That story stuck in my mind and would sneak up on me every so often and cause me to lose a good night's sleep. I eventually picked up reading King's work again, but I've never forgotten the effect Survivor Type had on me.
This little story makes 127 Hours seem like just a picnic! There have been at least two film adaptations, and another adaptation as an episode of a TV anthology series, but that episode never aired. Not that I'm hungry for that stuff. I never watched any of it, but I figure it can't be half as bad as those Human Centipede movies.

Great story with a familiar ending? The original "Survivor Type" was truly a horrible, but very well written story! Thank you for this story, which at least gives us some idea as to Dr. Pine's end! Fantastic job!
Not exactly lost, but I was heading towards a locally famous solstice thing, (Its out in the middle of the desert) and I had walked this I think twice before and now we (my family) were walking with family friends. Me and said friends were lagging behind while my family had walked on ahead. They asked me 'do you know where we are going?' and I looked up at them at the time a VERY young teen and pointed directly towards the proper rock fin. I felt very good that I was more intelligent than the adults then. Lol. Then going to a thing called 'the crack' or 'hidden kiva' locally we were hiking in from the bottom up and came across people that were going from the top down. We were VERY late getting to the top and those people had kindly stayed put to make sure we got out. I'll never forget that.

After a bit of a bender in eastern Oregon, I came to while walking in the desert, thankfully I was walking towards the light and managed to get back to where I was staying in time for coffee.
Why oh why didn't Dr Pine just spare himself all the horror and pain and have himself a nice peaceful overdose....? Also, I KNEW that lady was going to ditch Hatfield, especially after Hatfield figures out how the Adventure Hotel was funded.
