Fins Windtamer vs. Sufix 832: Knot Strength Contest

This doesn't usually happen...
Most of the time when I test two comparable lines against each other, there's not too big of a difference (maybe 5-10%).
But when I tested Fins Windtamer vs. Sufix 832, there was an almost 20% difference!
In fact, one of them was the strongest braid I've tested so far!
In this video, I'll walk you through this experiment and show you which of the two is stronger than the other.
I'll also show you why wax-coated lines sometimes tie knots that slip and what you can do about it to create a much stronger knot.

I consistently use suffix 832 and it doesn’t let me down. 15lb or 20lb
I think measuring the diameter is important for a comparison of lines. It is common that the diameter stated is not the actually diameter. I know Suffix is stressing that the diameter specified is the actual diameter. But many brands don’t. Nice way to compare regardless!
3 years later no abrasion test? Suffix 832 is a thinner diameter line compared to the Fins, which is why Fins won this test.

Keep in mind diameter. These are close to the same. Kastking Kastpro says it’s .004 for 10# but would probably break sooner. Their size at 20# is .008, same as these. Part of it is labeling.
Need to do an 8 v 8. 4 strand rougher surface always hold knots better.

Fins is the best I've used... I use to be and 832 guy but after consistent use I've found fins to unbelievably strong!

It looks like it's breaking at the knot. Why not use a palamore knot or an improved uni knot? Any knot that wraps around the eye twice

I tried all the lines on the market. For what I do, in freshwater, what you are as a disadvantage is an advantage to me. The 832 holds its integrity over time over any other line. The wax you call it keeps the line intact and from fraying and also separating when an accidental hook pierces it or otherwise. Some products, particular spyder braid will separate and never come back together. I have tried daiwa 8 braid, kastking, power pro, powerpro slick, all the sun lines, and everything else- nothing on my baitcasters hold up like suffix 832. I never have to worry about it. I am not sure how you get slippage, maybe when it is new? I literally have yanked some of my crank baits wrapped around trees back out with the lure and taken the branch off the tree with it. The knot does not fail. I polymer knot all my hooks and lures. The coating on the product also keep it from digging into itself on baitcasters. Worst braid? Probably kastking- you can use it on spinning reels in saltwater casting heavy plugs, but in freshwater and 1/4 or 1/2 oz lures? The line is terrible. There is a complete imbalance between saltwater and freshwater, I can take any cheap braid off Amazon and cast a 3 oz plug, no difference. It’s when it is light, and when there are heavy winds, that’s when it makes a difference.
Im with you my friend. I have used it all for fresh water and sufix 832 is hands down the best overall and lasting line. Spider wire frays apart and becomes week over time. I don't like any 4 strand braid cause if even one stand breaks out of the 4 it's compromised and can make the rest of the line frayed and compromised. Kastking is garbage. I use sufix 832 on my bass and catfish reels and even on both baitcasting and spinning reels.

And inshore saltwater fishing is more than just casting 3oz plugs. As a matter of fact of never thrown anything close to a 3oz plug for trout or redfish.
@@gdj8013 we were talking about freshwater if you would of read our whole comments you would of seen that. I have been watching these guys videos a long time and they are pretty biased when it comes to certain lines especially power pro. They might as well be sponsored by power pro. But for the most part they aren't very bias and they do fair comparisons.
Did you have the chance to test any of the japanese PE lines like YGK G-Soul, Shimano, Seaguar or Sunline Siglon?
I think that as a rule of thumb you should check the diameter of each line....most manufacturers put on a flat diameter of the line...so if the fins was thicker then it wouldn't be apples to apples anyway

I've used both of these and Fins Windtamer is superior. Both will get more castable with age but the Windtamer will be better.
The Fins XS is their 8 strand and may compare better to the 832
So how do the diameter compare?
Will the test work if you tie a 12" leader then tie an fg knot? Would kind of simulate real conditions. I ask because I am curious if the line is breaking at the knot
Does sufix 832 lose its coating fast? I plan on using it for bass fishing and want to know if it’s going to stay the same color.
The coating does seem to wear off pretty quick, but its color lasts much longer.
There could be a difference in the overall line strength. One company's 10lb test may be a different actual strength than another company's 10lb test. I'm not sure how you could test the actual line strength without tying some sort of knot.
I use fins exclusively and it has proved better than anything I used and I tried a shitload

Get fins
Try the Berkeley X5 and X9 braided lines. I was a huge Daiwa J-braid fan until I fished hose lines. @saltstrong
People are crazy about this comparisons, when I buy a 10lb line I want it to break as close as possible to 10lb, I don’t want to have it holds up to 20 or 30 and brake my 10lb rod or a reel.

I'm sure there must be a good reason, but why would you buy 10lb braid & be happy that it breaks at twice its rated strength?
Better castability and more sensitive than huge diameter lines.
I was wondering how strong is a zebco omniflex 4lb. 1.8kg .008 dia 700 yds 640m compared to a zebco cajun smooth cast low-vis ragin' red 20lb 9.1kg 650 yds 590 m ?
