I just uploaded a video to answer the questions here in the comments and show you all how the floors are holding up (6 months since I painted the bathroom and 2.5 since the kitchen). If you're interested, you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/dfqCP5FyC_0/w-d-xo.html
Love this video. I think I've watched it 10 times and two days ago I finally got up the nerve to try it. Thank you, your instructions were a huge help I don't think I ever would have attempted this just by reading the back of a can of paint! I did the master bath floor and it came out so beautifully 😍
@@larrytowe6672 i did not, there is a primer in the kit that you wipe the tiles down with after the floors are super clean. I have to say though, I painted my bathroom floor a very bright white. Looks awesome BUT it shows every foot print and is hard to keep clean. Good luck!
Your last reason for painting your floor was the best ❤. I am getting ready to paint my bathroom floor so thanks for this video. Your floor looks great

I have the exact same tiles, and want to paint for the exact same reason! Half the house has been remodeled but kitchen isn't until next year. I'm going for it. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing! I've been wanting to do this for a year now. To me, this is far better than dropping $10,000 on laminate flooring to cover up tile great condition. For the meantime anyway 😊
I have exactly the same floor and I'm painting it with tile paint but it's too shiny and strange 😓 I didn't know there is matte topcoat exist in the world!! Thank you!! you are my lifesaver ❤️
Came here looking for ideas, and love that you painted this. I am wanting to paint my tiles, mine are the very ugly old stick on vinyl flooring. I have many pieces that are torn, so Idk what I can do but gonna try and see if I can fix it and smooth it out with paint and fill in missing pieces with some random stick on tile and paint it. not too expensive to try, just time. :)
I did this recently after watching your video and unfortunately the paint didn’t dry correctly and was very sticky for days! I didn’t know what to do so I sanded it down and put another layer. It was still sticky so eventually I decided to do the glossy top coat and just hope that it worked. And miraculously it worked and dried completely fine but I was very worried 😅
We've moved some furniture (an island and cabinet) in there and it's been fine but definitely wait until it's totally cured before moving things around! (the back of the paint cans will tell you how long to wait)

I've done several floors now without sanding (and the product doesn't recommend sanding) and it sticks just fine! I'd be nervous about the floor then having a more gritty feeling. Have you tried it and had success?
I've got similar ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. I've seen some videos where light sanding was done to etch the surface a bit. I'll look into the Rustoleum Home product. I'm using a Dutch Boy Porch and Floor paint in my basement right now on the concrete. Thanks for documenting your project!
I've seen people sand their floors as well but that makes me nervous! This Rustoleum Home has held up VERY well in both our kitchen and bathroom. Good luck with your project.

Chris Austin I have a concrete floor in my basement after previous owners pulled up carpet. I would love to just paint it and be done . I was going to pay 1200 for laminate flooring to be put down . What would you suggest if I did just paint it ?
@@mrsmurphy6371 Howdy! I would say that installing laminate flooring versus just painting the bare concrete are totally different animals and it depends on what you want out of the space. For us, we had a totally unfinished basement that was previously just used for storage. We wanted to "nice it up" a little bit while keeping a budget. We wanted a space for our 7 year old to be able to play in with his buddies and not worry about the space. I painted the concrete walls, and used the Porch and Floor paint for the ground. Cons: it's still concrete. It's hard and it's cold. We're adding rugs and remnant carpet sections to soften things up. Laminate flooring creates a much more finished space, but it's much more expensive. Pros: much easier to clean than bare concrete and can easier be vacuumed and Swiffered. It's also cheaper. Prolly $130 worth of materials applying it myself. It's also really durable. I built a partition wall and was banging around 2x4s and there's very minor damage to the floor. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for posting. Question: Is the top coat the same color as the base coat? Or is the top coat just a clear sealer coat? Do they explain which base goes with which top? TY
Hey Mark, the Rust-Oleum Home is a kit that includes the base coat (color) and top coat (clear). You get to pick your color and the matte or shine version of top coat. I went with French Gray (they didn't have many color options yet at the time when I did this) and the matte top coat. The back of the cans explain in a lot of detail timing and roller type, etc. in order to get the best outcome.
Still holding up great - I haven't done any touch ups. There are 2 spots that got messed up because when we redid our bathroom, they put down contractor tape to cover up these floors and when they removed it, it pulled up 2 tiny dots. Otherwise, paint is still solid!
I understand starting with a clean surface when you paint anything. My question would be, even though I've used Rock Solid products before (they make a deck stain that's incredible) but how well does this floor paint stick to glazed tile. My worry would be that with normal wear and tear along with mopping that eventually the paint would separate from the tile, crack and peel. As a kid, we had an unfinish basement with a concrete floor and my mother would paint it at least once a year and there were always spots where the paint would bubble and crack. I understand that paint products have come a long way since the early 1960's, but I wouldn't want to go to all that work just to have the paint eventually peel off. Any suggestions or comments? Nothing is ever as easy as it seems.
Rust-Oleum doesn't recommend sanding - so I didn't sand and it's held up for 2 years! I'd be nervous to mess with the finish of the tile and be left with something gritty!

Hi Katherine. Thanks. The quotations I had were all north of 30-40€ /sqm, or 2.5/3.5€/ sqf, while adding all the solvents and hardeners. Does it resonate with you?
It's been a year and they've held up great - no scratches and it's the room with the door our dog uses to go in and out all day every day. And I use a Swiffer to clean, and it's been just fine!

Has anyone done this that has pet? I have three active dogs and am wondering how it would hold up.
Sorry I'm just seeing this! Yes, we've had a dog that uses the kitchen door to go in and out every day and it's been totally fine! Here's my update video: th-cam.com/video/dfqCP5FyC_0/w-d-xo.html&pp=sAQA
Any coat applied?
A top coat? Yes, the paint set comes with the color and a top coat!
Whats it like now?
Here's my follow up video: th-cam.com/video/dfqCP5FyC_0/w-d-xo.html
@@KatherineForbes thanks
How does it hold up well on the grout?
Been totally fine on the grout! Here's my update video if you haven't seen it already :-) It was shot earlier this year but honestly floors still look great. th-cam.com/video/dfqCP5FyC_0/w-d-xo.html
Lookin great! 👏🔥💪
yeah and awsome color
Thanks for posting. I have saltillo tiles throughout my condo and hate them. Hopefully this stuff will be durable enough to withstand the abuse of a 7 year old and a beagle.
Have you tried it yet? It's been totally fine with our 8yr old dog and my husband who loves working in the yard and is coming in and out with mud and tools through the kitchen!
@@KatherineForbes Not yet. What was supposed to be a weekend project has turned into 3 weeks. I decided not to put lipstick on a pig by just doing the floors. Instead, it's a complete overhaul of a 1960's bathroom. Bringing it into the 21st century. The floors are last and should be done within a few days.
We ve made the mistake of buying anthracite coloured tiles and everything little dirt is shown on it, wanna get it to a mid gray colour, but not sure with floor heating, would it work with that as well because of the heat? because we ve got that, do you by any chance have that as well? Couldnt see any radiators on video. Thanks
Hey Adam, no we don't have floor heating... that might be a question for Rustoleum! I will say it's been extremely durable though.
Very nice
Learned a lot from you! 👍
So glad to hear!
How does it hold up to kichen chair sliding on it?
We don't have a table/chairs in there - but when I did for a quick minute, the chairs had rubber ends on the legs and it was totally fine. Also had a rug that sat under table and chairs when they were pushed all the way under.
Why did you put down more than one base coat? That paint is so thick...was is necessary to paint three times?
I followed the instructions exactly as they're detailed out on the back of the paint can! (I think it's just 2 base coats)
I've seen alot of ppl ask the same question but no answer it seems as far. Can you please let us know how long the paint holds up for with a normal day to day usage. Also do you mind sharing what brand paint and primer you used for this project. Thanks alot.
Here's my video on how it holds up - th-cam.com/video/dfqCP5FyC_0/w-d-xo.html - and even though it's been awhile since I shared that video, the floors still look great almost 2 years later.
Paint is a kit (base coat and matte top coat) specifically for floors called Rust-Oleum Home... link to it in description!
Lol, I'm doing this but I'm doing black and white 😭 and the kitchen is huge luckily I have masking tape
I'm jealous - black wasn't an option when I got this paint 2 years ago! I totally would've done a black and white pattern for sure!
@@KatherineForbes it's niceee trust meeee!! That's a good video idea for you lol how to change the colour of tiles paint etc
