For many years I ate my own rendition of beans and rice for lunch at least five days a week! It would include vegeatables that were left from other recipes such as cabbage. We love the Mediterranean diet but eat more traditional "American" meals too but we don't eat prepared foods nor fast food! I love nuts as well and we actually have all of the nuts you listed in our kitchen. I just turned seventy and I feel that aging has caused me to search for healthier foods simply because we have more health issues as we age.

As a vegan I eat everything except dairy, also, I've cut out flour and grains, that said, Im slowly adding grains. Di you have any vegan-specific suggestions? Thanks! I spent 3 months in Italia and never wanted to leave, so you caught my attention when you said you trained there.

Welcome to our community! I am so glad you like the content. Yes, Italia is one of the tastiest countries! I had the privilege of training in Milan.
You're asking excellent questions. In short, a healthy vegan Mediterranean Diet would look nearly identical to a healthy vegan diet overall - emphasis on whole form plant foods and lots of healthy plant proteins like legumes. The nice thing about the Med Diet is its emphasis of so many flavorful ingredients like herbs and spices, aromatic olive oil, etc. Using these things in cooking will really help to keep dishes vibrant!

I make my own whole wheat sourdough bread and add sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I make my own Greek yogurt. I also make my own peanut butter with just peanuts.

Hemp seeds were not something I would have bought until I tried a free sample at a food festival. They are AMAZING!!! Hemp oil too.

Thanks for this video. It just happened to access yoyr channel and I loved it. Thanks for your contribution back to the community.
As a vegetarian, the one think I struggled with is protein intake. I’m 55kg and I suppose to take at least 55geams of protein everyday, I am trying get my proteins from wholesome foods and not taking any protein supplements at all, but it’s very hard to get 55grams everyday. I eat egg and for my breakfast I eat 5 eggs( 1 whole and 4 only white), and for lunch and dinner trying to eat tofu, cottage cheese and chick peas etc as a protein source. Seems it’s not satisfying my protein needs.
Can you pls guide to how can I improve my protein take from wholesome food and if your recommending protein powder which one should I try? Pls let me know.
Ps: taking nuts, seeds & Greek yogurt Al most everyday.
    Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to ask this question - it is such an important question! I was a vegetarian for 6 years and similarly felt challenged to get enough protein in. It sounds like you are already including lots of healthy protein sources. To boost it up further, you could include whole grains like quinoa and farro which have a bit more protein than wheat, for example. Cottage cheese and egg whites give a lot of bang for their buck protein-wise. Depending on your preferences, you could eat a higher volume of these things. But for protein powder, I personally like whey protein. I'll often mix it into my greek yogurt. It really gives the boost without adding complication to the diet.

Doc, I liked your post. I use most of the veg and fruits and just you mentioned. Except I avoid egg too. But any suggestions or things to avoid for type 2 diabetics. Thanks

So glad you like the video! Thanks for your question - for diabetes, one of the most important things is to slow down digestion and blood sugar release, and this is accomplished best by avoiding highly refined simple sugars (cakes crackers cookies etc) and eating enough fiber, protein and healthy fats in your meals.
Since blood sugar responds from both the quality and quantity of sugar in our foods, eating balanced meals is essential

Hello Doctor I have been plant based very low fat for 6 years so the veg, fruit nuts and seeds are easy.
My cardiologist suggested changing to a Mediterranean diet and to include more olive oil, nuts omega 3 ideally from oily fish which I am not keen on doing. If I exclude fish will I be successful doing the Mediterranean diet. Thank you
