I think Walter has created a natural style that really suits the trunk line of the tree, fantastic!

Thank you, that calm and deliberate pace of speaking allows me to understand your explanations. a great job. You have to know the species very well to do a job like that. Only a bonsai Master can have this technique

Adriana, don't worry. The tree looks very happy five weeks after the demonstration. this is standard procedure.

Walter is discouraging 😅😅 I could never find this style given the same beginning tree. Just wow.

Hola, consulta: tenía entendido que las coníferas se alimentan mayormente de su parte verde más que de las raíces, al cortarle tanto, no puso en peligro la vida del árbol? Gracias y saludos desde Uruguay!!!!

You preferred the mushroom top ball of foliage obscuring the trunkline? Really?

Finally walter gets cut off instead of him cutting everyone and everything off

You shouldn't have to convince everyone that "it's on purpose". I would have expected a much more compacted image.

turnindropout Walters deciduous trees are unconventional but really stunning. I think he should leave conifers to Ryan and bjorn

You have no idea... Walter is not doing "Showbonsai's". Trimming and thrilling a tree until it die, but looks good... He is working for the future. I'm pretty sure this tree will look stunning in about 5 years.

Tom Tom yes that's true he has some stunning deciduous trees, especially maples, but personally I am not a fan of his "natural" styling

I think it will look really natural, which is obviously the intention.

Suit yourself, and enjoy the bonsai exhibitions where all the trees look the same and nothing like their counterparts in nature. I don't normally like to be insulting, but your comment was so odious I figured I'd follow suit. Some people want to look at bonsai as a medium, like a sculpture - the tree is just a material that is shaped and worked into a desired aesthetic. One cannot deny that the Japanese bonsai aesthetic promotes sameness. Whereas in nature, there is chaos and wild variety. I think bonsai is evolving, the naturalistic style is about true miniaturization. Seeing a bonsai that evokes the image of a tree you remember seeing walking in the woodlands or mountains. You seem like an art critic that wants to tell people how they should interpret paintings. It should also be pointed out that Walter is getting pretty old. His best days as an artist are behind him, but his contributions to bonsai are monumental. His ethos will persist through the next generation of artists.
