    Im picking up a 2016 Canyon 4x2 4cyl base with the 6at on Saturday. I've done all of my research and found your vid really helpful. Not all of us are looking for a $50,000 "1/4 ton" or an $80,000 full size with leather and all the options, and that's all most people review. Nice to see a base model review so the guy buying it for light duty and as a daily driver can see what they'll get!

    just bought a brand new 2016 crew cab 4x4 canyon loaded with everything except for heated seats. I paid $32,250. Was a $39,500 truck original msrp. Huge discount incentive since it was a 2016 still for sale in 2017. Sometimes you can find new trucks like this if you keep looking. Also Demo trucks sell as "new vehicles" with less than 4000 miles with huge discounts.

    I bought a new 2019 SLE v6 in 2019. I truly love the thing. Rides like a dream on the highway avg 25 to 28 mph. It was really a good choice over the Tacoma. Main reason was the Tacoma was rated at 19mpg and the gmc was rated at 22.

I realized that while cruising it was turning off 2 of the cylinders and the V6 icon on the dash read V4. Wow I'm totally impressed with the ride, feel and comfort of this truck. Frank Tulumello that’s great frank and I’m surprised it has cylinder deactivation on this sort of truck, especially at highway driving. I’ll def take this into consideration if and when I pull the trigger for the truck

    • @FTulumello
      @FTulumello 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0554joe I hear you can turn it off if you don't like it. It seems to only do this when on the highway either going downhill or on cruise. My friend has a Honda Ridgeline and it's annoying the hell out of him. Says it's always deactivating. I have no intention on turning this off.

    I have a 2017 Canyon with a gas 4 cylinder and a manual transmission.
    It gets almost 30 mpg on the highway with camper shell on the truck.
    It is a decent inexpensive truck.
    My dislikes are:
    I can’t figure out how to get the hands free for my cell phone to work.
    The reverse gear can be tricky to get in to gear.
    The parking brake is difficult to use. I wish it had a pull handle in the center console.
    All in all the truck does what I need it to do making sales calls in West Texas.

    I have a 2016 chevy colorado 4×4 extended cab and I love the truck. Only thing I do not like is the rear view mirror is to big for that size windshield and the spot mirror on the driver side is upper left when it should be lower left. Also I bought a u-piece to go on top of my bottle jack to safely lift the rear axle when you get a flat. All pickup truck manufacturers have never addressed this safety issue. Do you still have this Canyon? How is that light colored cloth interior holding up? I am torn between a base-V6 Canyon with spray-in bed liner and heavy duty trailering packages and a Subaru Crosstrek Limited optioned to the moon (but pretty much the same cost at the end of the month). I had two Crosstreks already, lease is ending soon, and I am beyond torn between getting the pick-up out of my system or going with what I just put close to 50K miles on (I went over by a bit - no issues, excellent in snow, and great fuel economy - plus the upgraded Kicker speakers and tweeters with the Rockford Fosgate P300-10 sub sounded amazing).

    I was about to purchase a '16 GMC Canyon SLE 4wd. When all was said and done, I didn't because I didn't think the performance justified the 38k price tag. The v6 just didn't have enough torque and was noisey when stepping on the gas hard. I just felt like you could get a nice full size truck with a better engine for that price. I like the smaller size of this truck (though the weight is as much as a full size f150) but it seems more like it should be about a 30k vehicle loaded. Not a 38k vehicle.

    Nice review. I'm looking to move from my 2004 Nissan Titan 4wd (has never broke down, unbelievably dependable) to the GMC Canyon All Terrain or Denali. I'm tired of the over sized big truck thing. I'm thinking of going with the diesel but haven't made up my mind yet. I know I wont make up the cost in fuel to mileage but I want the extra torque. My biggest concern is box size and real usage. I move a lot of sheet goods and lumber, that might be an area of focus for your reviews that could further set you apart from other reviews. Again, thanks the straight forward review .

    I think the base model ford f150 regular cab in race red looks really good with the blacked out grill,bumpers,door handles ect. Just makes it pop..hot little truck. Not sure what the price is on them , but when ford has there employee pricing going on during the summer where I live which is London ontario Canada you can drive off the dealer lot with a $40,000 truck for around $15,000 to $25,000 after the incentives and trade in's. Looking at trucks now but waiting for 2017 summer before I do anything so I can get these big ford incentives. I use to have a 1997 regular cab f150 for 18yrs and really liked it, might go that way again

    I have used drop in bedliners for work for 22 years with numerous vehicles in my business.. Never had anything more than slight surface rust. Maybe you should invest in a thing called a GARAGE and clean your bed once a year. They cushion the bed from heavy blows used by those of us who actually WORK out of trucks. A spray in will simply dent along with the metal bed. So both have their pros and cons. A spray in is about $100 more than a drop in. So much for your cheapskate theory. .

    • @chadhaire1711
      @chadhaire1711  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bruno TaTa You can't drive outdoors and be in a garage at the same time. Slight surface rust? Where. In a salty humid coast city that can turn onto Heavy surface rust. Guess you don't live in Florida. Spray in $100 more? That was my point--why use a crappy drop in to save $100. To each their own but I have been doing this for a while and would NEVER use a drop in. But hey if it works for you.......

    • @workingcountry1776
      @workingcountry1776 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! I drop bricks, logs, and garbage in my Ranger and the plastic doesn't dent like sheet metal. Many construction companies still prefer plastic because it actually prevents dents.
      I drive into the bed with equpment like snow blower, 21in mowers, even 42 in mower (see my page).
      The plastic lets you push heavy items like blocks or even engines and transmissions up the tailgate to the front bulkhead for securing and good weight distribution... objects sliding shouldn't be an issue with a couple straps or a load bar.

      +gt5001945 To each their own but here are the facts: In the old days the manual offered better performance and fuel economy. The automatic offered less performance and fuel economy. Today the reverse in true for the most part. A tiny no power engine like base Smart Car or Mini Cooper needs a manual to work better, but for about 90% of the rest, the automatic works better, being quicker, better mileage, and well as easier to drive--so the manual is harder to drive while offering nothing in return--worse gas mileage and slower. This is especially true with powerful cars and DIESEL TRUCKS. With the massive torque output of a diesel, the automatic is better in every way, and almost most performance car makers (BMW, Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari ....) have mostly phased out manual boxes for a good reason--THEY DESTROY PERFORMANCE and kill fuel economy. Try to find a manual vehicle that gets better mileage compared to an auto-box--doesn't happen anymore. Just drove 2 Camaro's and 2 Challengers with both boxes--no contest--the manuals were miserable to drive, slower with no gain, just pain. If someone wants to shift then fine with me, but they will never beat the same vehicle with automatic--not for pussies but those who know better.

      im an installer 4 different jobs a day. all customers have to say how sexy my truck looks.i have the grand canyon with every bell and whistle. just today my 1st job the guy asked me if he could get inside. lol OF COURSE i said. chrome on black, black leather. i drive all over south texas many miles a day. this truck has no problems and handles every offroad situation with ease. but im not climbing mountains. just beach, desert, hill country, water, brush country, areas with no roads, etc. AND LOOKS SEXY doing it! love my truck

      The GM compact trucks are better looking and more comfortable to drive than the Nissan or Toyota compacts for sure, but getting them to run more than 100,00 miles is iffy....it will be interesting to see how these new models hold up after the warranty runs out. The new Colorado with the ZR off road package looks interesting..I am trying to get one

      @@chadhaire1711 yes it has the auto that shifts rough and rarely downshifts when going down hills or coming to stops. It idles rough, frequently overheats, top halve of both tail lights are burnt out, tailgate bolts always come loose, battery is already shot, had heater core replaced, check engine light is on and code says something about the catalytic converter, heat and ac blow out of defrost vents only(sometimes they change to the selected options), and last but not least, the drivers door has to be slammed to latch. Truck has never been in an accident and I only weigh around 160lbs so it was like that from the factory. All in all, I'm glad it's the company's truck and not mine I'm paying for

    I just don't see the value in these trucks unless you require a smaller vehicle, for not very much more money you can get a base v6 doublecab sierra or silverado with a more robust drivetrain and similar real world fuel economy.

      +David Stanley The Tacoma can reach 200,000 miles with no major repairs. Your GM, Ram, F-150 can reach that mileage--after $10K in repairs, especially the transmission and 4x4 driveline systems that die as soon as the warranty is out. Get serious dude.

    I call bullshit. I have a 06 Colorado (first gen). Its a great truck. The inline 5 is a good engine. People just bitch about it because of the odd # of cylinders. Way better than the s10.

    • @chadhaire1711
      @chadhaire1711  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Way better than the S10? LOl...That is like saying cat shit is better than dog shit...sorry guy it was a bad truck that was based on a decade old Japanese Izuzu design with a turning circle wider than a full size Silverado, a body structure that fell apart, and that 5 cylinder was junk. slower that a V-6 but drank just as much fuel. Very few survived after getting 75K miles on the clock--then junkyard time. If yours is still running consider yourself lucky..one in a million.

    • @scarecrowzero84
      @scarecrowzero84 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry that you feel that way. Mine is almost at 150,000 miles with no problems and has done a lot of work. If you need more performance than get a Silverado.

    • @chadhaire1711
      @chadhaire1711  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like I said you are lucky. If someone wants long term reliability in a small truck Toyota Tacoma is tops, the Nissan Frontier is second. Thats just the way it is.

    two questions for you, do you lose a lot of power with the a/c on like in many other small engine manual vehicles? or is it not to bad? and to put it into reverse is it just a simple all the way to the right and down or do you have to push the shifter down or pull up in order to put into R? I know in my A4 I have to push down then move it to reverse and on my 95 nissan pickup I just have to move it all the way to the right and then down so I was just wondering if it was a similar process? great review by the way
