Came across this video while looking for greenhouse designs. I love your design and will be checking out your playlist! Someday I'd like to put one in and my guess is we'd build it. Very nice work!
I have two. I believe it was Oliver, the younger one (he's almost 8 now) that walked by in the video. The other one, Abby is older, she is the buff and white color mix. She is 10 1/2 now with heart issues, but she is still hanging in there, and still occasionally makes it into the garden to pick her own beans. :)
Looks great! I was exhausted just watching you do it though! So much work. I am going to be attempting something similar soon. I have half a living room full of glazed doors saved up!
I clicked on this video because it brought back memories of my great great uncle teaching me how to build cold frames from old windows next to his garage - shed.
@@oneseedoneworld I had a farmhand that run out of work briefly, and asked him to come up with a greenhouse design (using my huge stash of french doors). It turned out awesome! I hope to build one here on this homestead.
Hi just curious how much you think it cost to build? Looking into greenhouses and weather to purchase or build one. Thanks. It looks amazing! Also...do you heat it?
@@cynthiaroberts9639 Total cost is kind of hard to determine. The recycled windows I got for $200 off of Craigslist. The wood for the base walls I had left over from another project that I had purchased prior to all the lumber prices sky rocketing. The 2x4 framing I purchased after prices went up, so that ran a few hundred I think. The clear corrugated roofing panels (2ft x 8ft) run about $17 each in my area. The flooring was also left over from another project. I'm guessing maybe about $1000 for everything, not including having contractors wire it and install all the electrical stuff. I don't heat it, so it is pretty cold in there in the winter time. I mainly use it to extend my growing season in the spring and fall. I know that isn't very specific, but I hope info helps give you an idea! Let me know if you have more questions.
The greenhouse isn't temp controlled. I do have two exhaust fans on either end to help control heat, and then the digital display you see is a Ubibot GS1-A WiFi Thermometer Hygrometer, Wireless Temperature Data Logger, Remote Humidity Monitor, just to help me keep track of what is going on in there. :) Link here for more details on it: amzn.to/3HTlmZB
Thank you! Pretty sure I've had that shirt since the 90's somewhere between the Wish tour and the Wild Mood Swings tour. I've seen them live 4 times, but very rarely wear this shirt, so its last me almost 3 decades now :)
I bought the windows a few years ago and stored them in the shed until I was ready to build. The windows weren't all exactly the same size, so I built the wall frames to fit the average size of the windows. Then I trimmed the windows as needed to fit the walls.
Thanks! I think you are referring to the glazing. I think I used DAP window glazing from Lowes, which is basically just like a putty. Its not too bad to work with, but takes a little getting used to putting it on so you can get some clean edges (some of mine are a bit rough). But you can get other brands/types too. I think they are all pretty similar.
Hard to say exactly since there was a lot of the wood that I used that had been left over from other projects. The windows were $200 on Craigslist. Roofing and end side corrugated plastic was $600. Plus there were all the other odds and ends like paint, gutters, etc. Not including electric I probably spent $1800 overall to build it (guesstimated). I had contractors do all the electrical work, but it was part of a larger job on our property that also included trenching, wiring a deck and rewiring a garage.
You can do it! I bought the windows on Craigslist 3 years before I even started building this, and they sat in my shed. Then once I started building, I just figured out stuff as I went along (and changed my plans and ideas multiple times). Just take your time and work toward your end goal :)
Looks great. I hope you tested for lead paint before you sanded them like that. 90%+ of the time old windows were painted with lead paint. Judging from the crackling pattern, this was definitely lead thats now in the garden. And please wear a proper mask next time.
This is a building that needs longevity, and the wood is not in the soil that will affect crops. I primarily do organic gardening, but with building, sometimes you use what you have and can afford. Additionally, treated wood is not as bad as it was 20 or so years ago thanks to some changes in how it is processed.
Great sharing 👍 I have collected a lot of material already. I hope we can start building the greenhouse soon.
Thank you! I hope you will be able to get yours going soon and have a successful build!

Awesome job but even more impressive was seeing Robert Smith on your t-shirt, The CURE rock! 😊🎶
Thank you! I'm surprised this t-shirt has survived the years, since I'm pretty sure I got this back on the Wish Tour.

looks amazing really want one
Nicely done!
Thank you!
Love your work!! How did you calculate the cuts you made so the roof would fit onto the frame?
Thank you! I just put a full length board up there first and marked where I needed to cut, and then used that board as a template for the rest.
Your greenhouse is amazing!
Thank you! Took me forever to build, but I'm loving it now!

Thank you, and thanks for checking out the video!
How did you secure the foundations, the wood in the ground?
The knee wall posts are concreted in the ground.
Really well done. Great video!
Thank you!
What kind of temperature/thermostat system is that you're using?

Do you build the greenhouse around the size of the windows or do you get windows to fit your greenhouse? Which do you get first??
I bought the windows a few years ago and stored them in the shed until I was ready to build. The windows weren't all exactly the same size, so I built the wall frames to fit the average size of the windows. Then I trimmed the windows as needed to fit the walls.

how much sq feet is ur greenhouse?
192 sq feet. 12x16.
Nice job Bro !
Thank you!
Great job 👏

I love the way that’s made❤❤

Nice work! Dumb question, what did you use to re-lead the glass panes? I am doing sometbing similar this summer and have a few to repair.

Thanks for the tip. No lead in the garden though, as this was not sanded in the garden.
Sad to see this using pressure treated wood. It's not safe for use around food crops. 😢

A magnificent " labor of love". 😌
It definitely was, thanks!
