Growing Black Sesame Seeds
First: Sorry about some of the camera focus switching in parts of the video. My autofocus was having a little bit of a freak out during filming, I think because I had it too close. Anyway, here is some info on growing black sesame seeds in your garden. Its a unique plant to grow, easy to grow and take care of, and has a lot of uses!

Chicken Treats | Grub Terra Black Soldier Fly Larva Review
Thank you so much for your great advice!! I live in Zone 6b & it’s my first time I’m going to winterize my 1st yr. Keep trying 🤗 they are delicious & pricey!! By the time we can buy them in the grocery they are kind of dry & who knows how many pesticides they use!! Blessings & good luck!! 10/16/24
Thank you! Best of luck with yours as well! I am going to try again next season and do them in a big pot I think, so that way I can try moving them inside and see if that makes a difference.
Pretty crafty 👍🏽
So it's been almost a year, just wondering if you are still using this system? We use this same method, we just use a 20 gal trash can because we have 15 hens and they drink alot of water.
I don't use it anymore (I used it 3 years ago). However, its because I tore down my old chicken run and rebuilt it in a lower section of my property that is cooler and has shade 3/4 of the day, so I haven't had the need of it anymore.
Thanks for this informative video! Our maple tree hasn't started putting on its fall colors yet, but several random branches bore leaves that turned bright red and shed during the middle of summer. There are still a few branches with bright red leaves on them but the rest of the tree doesn't look like it's getting ready for fall. Can this be a symptom of verticillium wilt?
Not in my experience. Generally, the leaves will just turn brown and fall off. My maple also stopped putting off leaves for the most part on the branches that were severely affected, and instead just produced the little "helicopter" seed pods as the tree was trying keep its species going before dying off. It eventually got to the point where one whole side of my tree was was pretty much all helicopters and no leaves. We had the tree taken down this past spring and replaced it with a Japanese Zeldova which isn't susceptible to verticillium wilt.
the plants are beautiful as are the blooms and berries. if the birds and the bees love em, i won't pull them all out
So uh… im just a 17 year old who’s bored since I graduated high school on October 3rd this year. There were cotton fields kinda close by to my house. So what any other bored teen would do. I walked over to the field and picked some. Now I don’t know what to do with it. So I wanna see what I can do with the seeds and all that.
So probably not the best idea to pick cotton that isn't yours without permission. But now that you have seeds, you can grow your own next season. They normally germinate really well and are easy to grow.
@@oneseedoneworld I know😭‼️ but I let my impulsive thoughts win a lot so I did what I did 🥲 but I so will grow some cotton once I have a stable home
@@alanwexler54 You could always try one in a pot to see how it goes. You will need a decent sized pot since they get about 3 feet tall and maybe a couple feet around. And maybe put a stake in it to help give it some support. But they are self pollinating, so you could even grow one inside.
@@oneseedoneworld omg thank youuuu I always wanted to plant something but never got the chance to 😋😋😋😋 I’ll see what I can do!
I have this flower in my garden pot.
I had a new one randomly sprout in a new flower/herb bed I put in this year. Bloomed every morning through most of the last month.
I had a plant several years ago and I loved the flavor. Gotta grow some come spring.
Thank you. We had some peafowls that started visiting my guinea coop and one showed up sick one day and started sleeping by my coop. A few days later my whole flock was sneezing and my king male who was recovering from a cat attack, didn’t make it 😢 it was heart breaking and sounds like your rooster, the rest of the flock is on Deneguard now and will do monthly maintenance - I wish I had found your video sooner and would have started treating them right away.
So sorry to hear that. Its definitely hard to lose ones from the flock when dealing with the disease. It can be managed, but there will be losses no matter what you do. I wish you the best with working through it!
Unfortunately so many people don’t understand this or care enough to test their flock or keep good hygiene. I’ve been so worried about this, I’m still looking into what it could be but all my birds have randomly started sneezing and almost “barking” but like a high pitched single cluck, like if a raspy chihuahua were to bark.
I hope your flock does ok. If it is MG it can't be cured, but can be managed.
❤ That's completely awesome! ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
I have never seen anyone not remove the skins before freezing.
I have done it both ways. Both work. After multiple times, I will say its probably less messy to do it before freezing, but the skins do come off pretty easily after a freeze/thaw.
Wayyy less talk
I appreciate the feedback and totally agree. My older videos I did a lot more yammering. :)
You can make paper from cotton too. And it is stronger than paper made from wood pulp
I need to look into this! Thanks for the info!
Thanks
Im sure glad I caught this second video 😁. I think I'll wait to purn a few more weeks now... Thanks again 👍❤️
Exactly what I was looking for after some time spent searching. Greatly appreciated. Thank you. Happy growing. ❤
What if you cook your eggs
Cotton ....
Very cool expose on the sesame! 😎
Thanks!
Great info.
I have the Plant in my backyard and I was wondering if could eat it. But thanks for your information, I'll keep the searching.
I am gleefully watching cedar waxwing and bluebirds chowing down on my poke berry.
Thanks for all the info, im in the south and excited to see what happens to mine i just dont know how to clean the cotton after harvesting
Cleaning can be a little tedious, although there are videos out there that show how to make your own mini cotton gin. I have a video in my cotton playlist as well that shows how we process ours.
I just got gifted multiple cotton plants and one I think is done for but the other is still green on top and I think producing cotton, really exciting to learn how to harvest it
Are they ok for hummingbirds and bees? Do you know if they are poisonous to them? I think I made a big mistake by planting them (Thought I was planting trumpet vine) Now I have to try and get rid of them and there are a bunch of dried, open pods with seeds :(
Datura is fine for hummingbirds and bees. Many pollinators enjoy them.
@@oneseedoneworld Thank you for replying! I decided to pull them this morning. They were getting really crazy all over. I tried to be careful and not drop seeds, but am sure I will be dealing with them for years to come. Do you have a suggestion of what hummingbird/bee flowers I should get in that spot for next year that might block them a bit? Mine love Zinnia's. I want to get a really colorful, hearty, pretty perennial that can attract the hummingbirds every year.
@@DeedlesMcGee1 I actually don't do a lot with perrenials, so I don't have a good suggestion for that. I typically plant zinnia, celosia and cockscomb. They all readily reseed themselves each year, (especially the celosia) so it almost works like a perennial. I also planted 3 or 4 bee balm seedlings in a patch a few years ago and I now I have 50 or so in there. The hummingbirds love those, although they only bloom for about a month in the early summer.
I just watched this whole video and found it great. There are many little bits I can take from this to help grow my own small channel. I can't believe this video has only 200 views! People are missing out.
Thank you! I did this video back when my channel was much smaller and wanted to just share some of my experiences and things I had learned at that point. One thing I have learned since then, is that these days shorter videos do seem to do better. I used to do videos that were much longer 30 minutes or more sometimes, but these days I think attention spans don't last that long. lol. Now I try to keep most of my videos under 15 minutes (and still have some people complain about how long they are). The biggest thing is posting on a regular basis (aim for at least once a week). The more you videos you do, you'll figure out what works best for how you want to do your channel. Thanks so much for your comment!
@oneseedoneworld Yes I heard that you had around 1500 Subs at the time of publishing this video so you've grown the channel nicely. Haha that's very true peoples attention spans are shocking now and don't want to watch anything long. I am the opposite though I love long form content. I might try similar and try and keep my videos not much longer than say 20mins. Thanks for the reply 👍
@@YorkshireTropics I wish the best with your channel!
@oceansinorbit Thank you very much!
@@YorkshireTropics I just realized I had responded to you from my other TH-cam account that I use for music stuff. lol But you're very welcome. Let me know if you have any other questions!
I utilize herbs medicinally but for some reason planted hyssop two years ago without researching what it's good for 😂 It's growing great and the pollinators love it like you said. I've just been procrastinating on figuring out where it will fit into use for health benefits. Now I know! Er, I mean, now I will go do my own, ahem, research 😅
lol yes do your own research! I did the same thing though, when I planted it the first time a couple of years ago, just wanted to try a new plant and put it along one of the edges of my greenhouse. I didn't know of all of its uses until I planted the seedlings I got this year and did some research on it. I had just been planting it for pollinators and because it was pretty and smelled good.
Been eating it my whole life boil 30 min fry in bacon grease add garlic its so good for you ........IF YOU NEVER EATEN IT USE CATION
Have you seen a Japanese cotton gin? Pretty fantastic.
I have not, but now I'm going to have to go look into it! Thank you for the suggestion!
Thnxz 4 Ur : Simple calm demeanor , And easy explanations , 👌 Perfect
Thank you!
dont mess with "poke weed" ... suddently, same day, ALL these amateur video shade tree "herbalist" are pushin how "safe" poke weed is but havent seen one eat it ... EVERYTHING, air soil water, is poisoned by chemical trails anyway = our species/this realm is done ...
Biosecurity. Separate sick birds. Put a small litter box with bleach water outside the coop/run and dip the bottoms of your shoes in it. Dedicate one pair of shoes only for chicken chores. Wash your hands (alot) after handling the birds. Avian Vets can help with any supportive care. Feed a high-quality diet.
Great video. My dying maple brought me here.
Thank you! Sorry to hear about your maple. I definitely miss ours since we've now had it taken down. We replaced it with a 3 year old Japanese Zeldova which doesn't get the verticillium wilt.
@@oneseedoneworld ooh very nice choice!
Drones are males
Nice job. Not sure if I missed it, but how did you seal the corrugated metal ends to prevent soil seepage outside the bed?
I don't do anything to seal it. Around the bottom I started off with mulch which prevents the majority of runoff that may come out of the bottom, but since then I had wild strawberries move in and work as a ground cover that I just mow. I do probably lose some soil each year along with general settling, but it isn't anything major and every couple of years I top off my bed with a soil/compost mix.
@@oneseedoneworld I gotcha. Brilliant!
And I have another question for u is bronchitis In chickens, the same as for close to microplasma
Bronchitis is something that can be healed up with proper treatment, where as the mycoplasma can not be gotten rid of (only managed).
@@oneseedoneworld I got a flock about 200 so it is convenient for me to vaccinate them and I did already order that product. Do you recommend and I am going to treat the whole flock with it
Thank for the info do you recommend vaccination because I know there’s vaccine
I haven't looked into a vaccine. For my smaller flock it probably wouldn't be cost effective.
I remember when i was a kid we went on a field trip to pioneer farm museum thing and it was cool we got to make candles, adobe bricks and using those cards but for wool instead of cotton, i remember having a hard time using them and landed up scraping my fingers and knuckles lol did have a good time tho
What a great memory! The carding does take a little practice to get the hang of it :)
Very thankful for your video, u seem like a good person, may god bless u brother
Thank you!
What’s the best way to water these?? I have 2 and they just do not seem to be growing.. I’ve had them for 2 months now and no changes
I just let mother nature do the watering for mine. But generally when I am watering the majority of my plants, I bottom water, a good soaking once or twice a week.
It's everywhere in the northwest city country hills
I freeze those berries every year. I put them in a quart bag, and use them as medicine. Its good for arthritis.
Hi I am a new subscriber I too have a channel and grow things and moon flowers I’m really amazed at them 😂this was my first year growing them , I have the vine type and the bush type please watch if you get a chance thank you ❤❤❤😊
Every year we were getting hundreds of them. This year, less than 10.
Less than 10 tomatoes? Or ones that weren't turning red. I had a rough year for tomatoes this year with all the extreme heat.
I love Doug!
lol He is definitely a character!
What if you are allergic to weeds?
Some people do have allergic reactions to this plant and wear gloves when handling. It varies from person to person.
My family has used this plant for years as I have , Anything is poisonous if consumed too much. I can testify I have never been sick from it , it is Very beneficial especially if you suffer from arthritis.
Nice montage!
Thanks! It took a while to pull all the old video files, but it was fun to make.
@@oneseedoneworld thats all that matters! (Most of the time anyway lol)
What a fun vid! Well done.
Thanks so much!
@@oneseedoneworld I noticed we have some similar garden beds made from galvanized panels. They have worked out well for me. You can see my gardens on my channel. Small garden, but those beds can produce a lot of good food.
@@zinnia3190 Nice! I just subscribed to your channel (I didn't realize you had videos uploaded before). I built my first beds with the galvanized panels back in 2018 and they're still doing great. My video on how to build them was my first video that really took off, lol. I think they are one of the better ways to do raised beds for how long they last.
