    Thank you for the review. I was considering the Seal Team Elite for both my Son, & myself, but after seeing the disadvantages of the partial serrated edge, and the notch cutters on the spine, which can both impede penetration, as well as removal, I found this knife, & absolutely fell in love. It is, at least at the moment, everything I want from a fighting/hunting/survival knife, just really well made and rounded for multiple tasks. Also, the sheath on this knife, as opposed to the Seal Team Elite, in my opinion, probably won't need to be immediately upgraded.

      Thank you for the comment. This is great knife and for all the tasks you described better (for me) then ST Elite model. Also the guard is much safer then the Elite model. Anyway, I recommand you to have a look on my video with few small upgrades of this knife, they are not necessary but I´m glad I made them:-) FM

    Had one. Regrettably sold it. Was too fancy to use. Was my most valuable fixed blade at one point in time! (2013ish). Will buy another in the near future.

She a good old girl so I'll think I'll get one. Can't wait to get in the woods. Anyway Merry Xmas from Kentucky land between the lakes

    Took a long time to cut thrugh that stick.
    Bigger bowie wouldve went thrugh it with a couple hits. But that being said still a good knife

    • @forestmantis1737
      @forestmantis1737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for the comment. I think it´s alright if know its weight and the important thing, the point of balance is right behind the guard on the handle side. These knife abilities make the knife more of a combat tool than a chopper:-) Btw, I believe many bigger knives, not only a bowie could chop through faster:-) This really is a good knife, but not a chopper. Have a great time there:-) FM

    I have the 2,0 and the super bowie. They are my favorite knives out of my collection. I been wanting to get em out and go camping but they are beautiful knives I'm saving till the shtf situation. For every day use I just carry a normal folding buck knife for edc. But who knows some day when 💩 hits the 📠

    • @forestmantis1737
      @forestmantis1737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      :-) I know the temptation not to use "such a beautiful knife", but as I said in many of my videos, I count myself as a user, not a collector, so I use every single of my knives. The hard thing is to use a knife you can´t buy again (or hardly), but those SOGs are still available, so why not:-) If I can, I recommend you to use at least the 2.0, just to get it to your muscle memory and find +/-. Have a great time:-) FM

    Why do people think AUS-8 is a good steel?! It’s cheap steel that gets marked up at the point of sale.

    • @forestmantis1737
      @forestmantis1737  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe, because it is good steel (and not the best) :-) Have a look at Seki Japan, they still use it on their most of premium knives, will they do it, if they don´t trust the steel? Have a look at many hard tests on YT. It has about 0.85% of carbon (so it holds an edge close to SK 5/ 1085 / Carbon V) but it is nicely rust-resistant and can be resharpened in the field. And, it is relatively cheap. I know, there are super steels on the market today, but the price... Also, to really use those super steels, let´s be honest, just very few of us will use 80-100%, even less. The last thing, I use the steel for 25 years (on my favorite knives) it hasn´t disappointed me:-) Have a great time:-) FM

    • @chones01
      @chones01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@forestmantis1737 That’s a fair argument. Did you see the price on that Bowie though? I saw prices ranging from $200.00 to $250.00.
      I’m over simplifying it, but isn’t AUS-8 pretty close to 440 with some extra vanadium?
      For an extra $50 - $100 you could get something in an entry level CPM variety like 3v if you look at a place like Bark River for example.
      I’m sure you already know you can get knives in AUS-8 for $40 to $60. So why do people buy up SOG versions for $200+ ? I’ve had one and it performed at a level similar if not exactly the same as a $40 beater. It’s just lost on me I suppose.

      @@chones01 Hi again, I can buy the knife here for about 210-250 USD today. I bought it for 190-200 USD, which was a "fair" price here, compare to other companies. It is important to know, that I can´t buy any fixed blade made of AUS8 under 100 USD here and those will be shorter, thinner, without a coating, etc. Btw, here is a link where you can buy the knife for 140 USD (if you are from that side of the world) www.dlttrading.com/sog-tech-bowie-tini That is an unbeatable price for such a knife and quality. I agree that AUS8 / 440C / 154CM are very familiar steels to each other. Another thing is if we are in the counting - price 200-250USD and if you add 100USD, it is about 50% of its price. If we use the same scale and say - here is a knife for 300USD and if we add 50% = 450USD - that is a lot of money for a knife;-). So, that % gives us a better perspective on the price:-) And the last thing, seems to me, we compare AUS8 steel only but not only to steels, but for craftsmanship, TM, sheath, coating, handle material, and general quality, there could be (and really is) a price difference, so it is not only AUS8 vs. another AUS8 but SOG Tech Bowie vs. some other AUS8 knife:-) Have a great time:-) FM

    • @forestmantis1737
      @forestmantis1737  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, as I said somewhere in my videos, as these SOG Bowies were made for SOG units, I belive, they had all around knife description, from fire making to put down some enemy and I don´t expect from this knife something less:-) Btw, my exp. with my old SOG Trident, it can handle everything I put on, so I trust the knife. My exceptions are only daggers and karambits (which are not my favourite knives because "the stright description"). Thank you for the comment anyway. FM
