I have owned this knife for about 10 years now. I have only had to sharpen it once on my stone. It holds a good edge. I have stabbed many things with it and the point will not break off. A lot of hacking things has left two small (1/2 millimeter) pits in the sharpened edge. Not bad for 10 years daily use. Great knife.
My dad called the special forces “the painted men.” They came from the jungle and recruited my folks to fight in the secret war. Vietcong kept retreating into Laos when they could not fight off US troops. My folks were charged with disrupting their retreat. I was born here in the states, but I grew up hearing war stories. Dad sold the old m1 carbine back in the early 90’s. I never knew the drape dad wrapped us in was an old piece of parachute from the war, and the only hair cut he knew to give us was the jar head.
I know this is an older video, but thank you for doing one on this knife. I'm getting one next month strictly for self defense, and won't be doing any wood chipping, chopping, or batoning, but it's great to know that it can handle the job. I've looked at many different knives, and the Tech Bowie is absolutely exactly what I want in a combat knife. I was looking at the SOG Seal Team Elite, but I don't like the rasps on the spine, or the serrated part on the edge. I love the kraton handle, as well as the profile of the guard, and especially the blade profile, perfect. I'm probably also going to pick up the Ka-Bar 1282 D2 Extreme Fighting Knife as well, as I really love the high quality D2 it's made from, as well as the overall profile of the knife as a whole.
Got the seki steel version 20 years ago second hand just before they moved production to Taiwan. The needle point is for windscreens and body armour at least back in the day.
Nice knife. I have the Voodoo Hawk and the Seal Pup (M37 with Nylon Sheath) and am also a fan of the Force. One of the characters (Rosita) on 'The Walking Dead' carries the SOG Bowie with the tan wrapped handle.
How did the tip hold up? I've seen some reviews that it bends. Not sure how reliable they are but after seeing you stab apart a tree I'm kinda curious. Thanks
Not to be a smartass but you disengage the sheath by pressing on the overlap on the guard with your index finger it pops out easy. Kabar killer for sure.
Have you actually put a tec lok on yours? My belt attachment broke and I wanted to use one of my tec loks but I can't fit the full size or mini any way I try.
Great blade but my finger is too large to fit in that choil (got cut) . Btw you can loosen those top retaining screws and loosen the hold of the retention .
I told my wife I wanted one for Xmas this year and it's 5 days away. Can't wait to strap it on grab my shotgun and head to the woods. He'll I might not ever come back LOL. Merry Xmas Everyone from Kentucky land between the lakes 🎅
I've thought about buying this knife for years but I always ditched it because it's overpriced for a Taiwanese made knife with AUS8 steel. At the price it goes for you can get a TOPS or ESEE US made knife instead.
ANYONE know what the various SOG STAMPS mean?... I believe there are 3 different ones. "SOG Tech Bowie", "SOG Specialty Knives" in a white square, and "SOG TEch Bowie" with a small drawing on the side of SOG. Thanks
Thanks G. SOG is generally overpriced, made in Taiwan (China), but they still are cool, and collectible. I just like them, I dont really know why. [knife addict, perhaps] :-)
Steel sex indeed! I don't if I should put on a condom or hit replay. I love the SOG Recon Bowie, it's my go to pig sticker now days, but this Tech Bowie just screams righteous!!!
Own a lot of knives, and this is the only one I'll take out just to look at. One of the best looking knives ever.

mike smith How did the finish hold up? Does the kydex sheath scratch the blade?
Very happily surprised to see such great performance on this classic design!
I have Tigershark bowie I got in 1992 that I carried for 20 years as an aircrew survival blade.
That’s a big one for a survival knife lol
Hang on to you Tiger Shark as their hard to find
Thanks for the review, really like the outdoors test

Very Good Demonstration. Great Knive.
Thank you.
Always good to see people actually using a knife like a boss!
Good video man.
Really appreciate that!
Ya they put out really quality stuff from Asia.
MACVSOG was 5th Special Forces. One of the other groups used Gerber's Mk II.

What are your thoughts on the CRJB feldspar
Great Demonstration.Great Knife
"We just haven't found any good wood..."
*Dog attempts to steal wood*
LOL.
I love your reviews, mate

Agreed
"Steel sex." lol That's what they should have named it. The SOG Steel Sex Bowie. :D Great review.

Haha, Tommy the Trail Dog a little thief, thanks for the support!
It is on the list to review.
The Japanese did not design the Bowie, this was done by an American Army officer. They only manufactured the knife.
I will purchase one soon 😊
Nice video and channel, Keep it up bro!
Thanks so much!
I can't expess how much it means to me that you pronounce Bowie properly
How did the tip hold up? I've seen some reviews that it bends. Not sure how reliable they are but after seeing you stab apart a tree I'm kinda curious. Thanks
Will this knife hold up well and do a good job with batoning??
Not to be a smartass but you disengage the sheath by pressing on the overlap on the guard with your index finger it pops out easy. Kabar killer for sure.
Good job on that knife..i go mhm e get the tech bowie from cabelas
Have you actually put a tec lok on yours? My belt attachment broke and I wanted to use one of my tec loks but I can't fit the full size or mini any way I try.
His dog coming up and snatching one of the pieces of wood cracked me up
Great blade but my finger is too large to fit in that choil (got cut) . Btw you can loosen those top retaining screws and loosen the hold of the retention .
LOL....the lanyard hole cut the cordage you put into it?!!
Even the lanyard hole is bad to the bone on this knife!
great vid, good point about the sheath ! a quick release would be great...
RIght on!
you cant find any good wood to baton cuz your dog keeps stealing them lol! loved the vid asome job
It's kind of like a fine edge seal pup.
That's gone go good with my k bar .
I told my wife I wanted one for Xmas this year and it's 5 days away. Can't wait to strap it on grab my shotgun and head to the woods. He'll I might not ever come back LOL. Merry Xmas Everyone from Kentucky land between the lakes 🎅
Can you review the SOG seal team elite and the SOG creed
Would u do one on the tops longhorn bowie

thought it was special operations gear
like your review. What gloves are those?
Yellow ones.
@@nilepax8168Funny way to spell tan..
I have both 2.0 and super bowie. I wouldn't take a $1000 for either. Most prized knife I own.
Good knife, can you tell me where you got those gloves?
Leather gloves from home depot, $15
What is with everybody calling injection molded plastic...kydex..
ANYONE know what the various SOG STAMPS mean?... I believe there are 3 different ones. "SOG Tech Bowie", "SOG Specialty Knives" in a white square, and "SOG TEch Bowie" with a small drawing on the side of SOG. Thanks
Lol! "Steel sex man!" FTW!
It's so sharp it cuts the paracord in the loop.
try the scuba demo by sog!!!
Does that sheath fit the sog super bowie?
Thanks G. SOG is generally overpriced, made in Taiwan (China), but they still are cool, and collectible. I just like them, I dont really know why. [knife addict, perhaps] :-)
Yeah look at the Randall this is as close as ive got also have 2.0 bowie superb knives both
Too much effort to cut, expending too much energy. Use a saw designed to cut tree limbs. Nice little rig through.
Steel sex indeed! I don't if I should put on a condom or hit replay. I love the SOG Recon Bowie, it's my go to pig sticker now days, but this Tech Bowie just screams righteous!!!
5th Group.
Does it float? No? Then it's not a buoy.
Thats junk if lanyard has un finished edges
But I agree it is a seksi blade.
It looks like the Baroness from GI Joe.
Boo-ie knife
Joshua Bremme Can't understand that either. Boowee...WTF..?
first
Dude, please stop saying "boowy" !!!
its how its pronounced
Bow ee
I just looked this up and it seems Boo we is correct. I blame David Bow ee for this ! Lol !
I think you are a little off in your Vietnam War history.
