Any update on the V9s yet? Do you prefer them to the V8s? Thanks!

Good stuff, I always enjoy your opinion on blades cheers
Thank you I appreciate it. Have a great time there. FM
Excellent video. I would take either knives with me into the wilderness.
Thank you and agree, both are great knives. Have a great time. FM
The most impressive part was converting metric to imperial off the top of your head. And you were making me nervous swinging around the open Gomboy near your other hand starting at the 2:45 mark. But seriously, nice informative video. Thanks for posting it. I think the 240 is the sweet spot for me.
:-))) Thank you and have a great time:-) FM
VERY bad audio!!
I know..:-(
Great discussion. Your experiences with the two Steels 8s pretty much the same as mine; I absolutely agree. AUS-10A is the edge King. And, AUS-8A is a great Field Knife Steel due to the lower heat treatment that is easy to resharpen to a Razors Edge and has great toughness. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Thank you and have a great time there:-) FM
Very nice thank you
A lot of cheaper options out there, but a nice one to get for those who can afford it, thanks for the review.
Thank you for the comment, I understand and agree. It is even a question for me if those Medfords are just hype or if there is something in it? Have a great time there. FM
Knife for Me!!! Hello Mr. Mantis of the Forest
Hello buddy, nice to see you around!:-) :-)) It looks like a great knife but will see;-) Have a great time anyway! FM
Pěkné pěkné 👍 to tanto od Cold Steelu jsem viděl? 🤔
Jasně, to je roky stará záležitost, ale příště si jej můžeš zkusit;-)
Throw it once
The extra holes in the handle area were put there by Ontario for their own machetes. Tops sourced the blanks, added micarta handle scales and finished the machetes. Still a fine tool, I own and love to use both. So if you decided to do a 2.0 there is a cheaper option. (For now)
Nice collection.❤
Thank you:-) FM
I always wanted a tops tracker too. I been using an Ontario sp-51 in 5160 and a mora bushcraft black for the past 11 or 12 years . If I had the funds I think I would add a tracker someday for fun.
Understand, SP-51 looks like a "normal" chopper/long knife, the Tracker works a bit differently and it is definitely fun to use it:-) The TOPS T3 (154 CM) is for the "best" price I have seen so far (compared to T1 - 1095), but, both are very expensive. FM
Those extrema ratio knives are great . There are a lot of models that seem great for outdoor use . It’s just the price that blows them up .
Absolutely, esp. with the N690 steel:-( Thanks for the comment anyway. FM
Great comparison, thanks.
Thank you.

Great review. Try steel cleaner (Bar Keepers Friend) on the blade. You shouldn't have to on a $500 knife.
Hello, thank you for the comment and advice:-) It shouldnˇt but... So far, the knife holds pretty nice:-) Have a great time. FM
@@forestmantis1737You're welcome. I hope you enjoy your trip.
@@Popeii1 It was great, thank you:-) FM
Thank you
Hello, it is been years that I would like to try a Tops tracker, I already watched your videos on the knife, so my question is: do you still recommend it? In Italy is very expensive!.
Hi, thank you for the comment and the good question. The problem is that prices have risen everywhere and on everything so it is hard to find not only a good Tracker knife but for a reasonable price too. In my country the Czech Rep. those TOPS Trackers raised the price "nicely":-( And the situation is like never before, the T3, my three-season Best Tracker used to be the most expensive, but now it is the T1. I believe those TOPS Trackers are still the best trackers on the market for the price vs. performance. Just today I saw the Boker Tracker (the biggest model) broked during batoning not some huge piece of wood)... On the other hand, since I designed that Charon Kukri if I carry a Tracker, that is the T4 (mini). In winter, the T1 could be still an option instead of a hatchet. So,. yes, they are still good and I recommend them, but, there are some custom Trackers made of better steel say for a double price, but what to expect from a custom knife, right?;-) The T4 is a great companion to any bigger knife, on the other hand (if you like some other knife designs or you just have got your another favorite knife already... Have a great time in Italy:-) FM
@forestmantis1737 Yeah, in Europe, a T1 costs 100 dollars more than on Knifecenter. That is simply crazy. At the American price, I would buy it immediately. The EU is becoming more and more the worst place to live.
Great video man. I am so glad I found this. I have a T1 and never knew T3 was corrosion resistant. I live on the ocean. I’ll be picking up a t3.
Thank you:-) T3 is definitely a good choice for your area. "Just a little update" was the anniversary T3 edition made of S35VN steel, it is hard to find today, but it might be interesting for you if you haven´t noticed that. Have a great time there:-) FM
Thanks for this video. I just grinded off that right angled hump along the spine of my bootlegger and it's much smoother now.
@@dysonsphere Absolutely good idea. It is a great knife, enjoy it:-) FM

Nice review, I have the Vaquero xl serrated and totally in love with it. I bought it for self defense but the drop point Voyager is next.
Hi and thank you for the comment. The whole Voyager series is great, for me, if some other knife from the series is going to be in my collection, it will be the Tanto:-) The Vaquero, for self-defense, will be on my list too, but it is not as practical for my EDC/Outdoor use. Anyway, I wish they´ll make it of better steel (as usually, I say:-)) ). Have a great time there. FM
Idea, put your hand through the cord twist 2 two times and the knife will become more secure to hold. Good video. Thanks for your work.
Thank you for the idea:-) FM
Hi guys - there is a question from AlexanderSamarth, the comment should be here and I don´t know why it isn't. It is about the thickness - should be 3,3mm but in reality is 3mm. Why? I mentioned the same problem at least on CS Gurkha Kukri+ I own, which is probably on more products. So - the 3,3mm is under the handle scales, after they finish (towards the tip) it narrows to 3mm, so the real blade is really 3mm thick - on those 0.170 and 0.230 TOPS machetes. FM
Typical of you, outstanding review. I feel as if I truly know the knife.❤
Thank you:-) FM
Great video! Good comments on the details and comparison with TOPS .230. I was looking for such comparison. Thank you!
I´m glad when my videos help people:-) Have a great time there. FM
Thank you for sharing this video my Brother 👍🏻🇦🇺
My pleasure brother. Have a great time. FM
is it drop or clip point?
The original is a very dull clip point, this version is with some drop point taste right behind the tip. My today´s version is a pure clip point. FM
Thank you for this informative review. Based on your video I reexamined my preferences and went with the non-locking as that thumbstud looks like it would limit the range of the knife. I have watched your videos for many years, your series on the Tom Brown Tracker is still one of the best on TH-cam. Ty for continuing to upload these great knife reviews.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it:-) Since I bought the L51, it has become my EDC and I´m happy with it so far. I believe you have made the better choice with that non-locking model, so enjoy it and have a great time there:-) FM
I've been thinking about the same problem, as I started getting a few more knives.. but I came to the conclusion that actually for EDC (around the house) the most useful type of blade is a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe, because of how useful the utilitarian tip is. I never liked the tanto aesthetics, it's also more difficult to sharpen, and some tantos are really bad for stabbing (tho you get a kind of chisel if that's something you need).
Hi and thank you for the comment. I got your point and I see the Sheepsfoot or the Wharncliffe, very useful (my choice will be the Wharncliffe), but when we use these shapes, we have to bring the tip more under pressure with an adequate angle and we can use many drop points to this also (it is about the angle). With the American tanto, there are two tips (which could be an advantage) but the "yokote tip" naturally penetrates the material with no really special angle, just with the pressure. I don´t agree with the sharpening difficulty, we sharpen two, generally straight edges, so no problem:-) I don't care about stabbing, it is not the purpose of my knives;-) But, I got your point and those two blade shapes are great for many practical uses. Have a great time there. FM
thanks for comparing them, very usefull.
Thank you
Awesome Blade! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Yes, it is:-) Have a great time:-) FM
thats why i like tanto and wharncliffe/sheepsfoot blades
Agreed:-)
Something I'd like to see more in multitools are tanto blades and small serrated edges located closer to the middle of the belly. I use my BW Victorinox mostly so it would make cutting tape and rope much better than the other tools.
I must say, I didn´t have many problems with the knife positioning but I understand especially on those "thick" multitools, it could be better. Thank you for the comment. FM
I just discovered a new use for the saw blade... It works well to comb my moustache!! Just after a little trim it sweeps out loose hair....
Pár nožů od Grouch Knives mám a komerční nože již nechci. Doporučuji všem. 😉😇🤑
Well done video on my favorite knife. Liked and subscribed .
Thank you and have a great time:-) FM
I am from UK, we are not allowed locking blades, that why they are taking blade off.
Thank you, so that is what I said. So the Victorinox Farmer X should be OK there. I´m not sure if they do it just because of GB, there are still countries without a knife restriction on that level... Have a great time:-) FM
Nice video. What Kukri is that you briefly showed?
Thank you, it is a kukri designed by me and made by Radim Dachs. You can find it on my channel - look for "Charon Kukri";-) FM
I don't know much about the UK knife laws so I cannot answer.
OK, thanks for the comment anyway:-) FM
Great review. Your the only one really showing the blades use in wood working. Is the 3V better than the other steels in this knife?
Thank you:-) 3V is the best steel for me, even some can hold an edge better. In this particular model/series is more important the grind. Unlike the others, these have a saber grind, so they are more tough. The 3V master tanto (the silver one) has a hollow grind so even the same steel, this one is tougher, but the other 3V and San Mai could be better slicers. Interestingly, the old Warcraft tantos (3V/black ones) are in the same grind and thickness, but thanks to different grinding angle, those knives are even better slicers (and choppers, but those are heavier). Have a great time:-) FM
I have so many great wood processors I think I will get the Master Tanto which is a little smaller. I’ll go 3V.
@@edwardgomez3633 I´m looking for the knife, too:-) FM
I've had one for years and I always pair with a vest. As soon as I stop and take my pack off the vest goes on. I have a wool vest for spring/fall, and down for winter.
Thank you, good idea. I don't use any vest these days, but I´ll think about it and maybe I will try it. Have a great time:-) FM
So quite here.. Ruike is a good knife, hope more people would find this brand. I'm a long time user of Victorinox Hercules, love it, but the lack of one hand opening always bug me. I really want a multi tool that have OH opening knife. 2 months after purchasing the LD42B, a Cobra just casually enter my room. After a bit of back and forth I managed to pin its head with my left hand using a stick, I then grab my Ruike with my right hand, one hand open it, and severed the Cobra head. Couldn't do that with Vic Hercules for sure..
Thank you for the comment and for the Combra story:-) What I do like more than OH opening is the Rukike quality and materials. To be honest, I don´t care about OH opening because I usually have some other knife and this serves me as I multitool.. Last year, I carried L 51 without OH opening possibility and had no issue:-) Have a great time. FM
@@forestmantis1737 Can't agree more there. Yes the material and build is very good and it have some unique design choice such as the large pinset and the tungsten breaker. That it offers identical tools arrangement in with or without OH opening is also a plus point, providing people with different needs. Thanks for making video for a not so popular yet good knife 👍
Beautiful work.
The tooth count is different, 8/30mm on Gomboy and 10/30 mm on Pocketboy. Also straight vs curved. For bushcrafting the straight blade will serve you better to get square bottom cuts. The handle and blade catch on the Pocketboy is more robust/substantial. I prefer the sticky rubbery grip of the Base version vs the Outback version. Pocketboy 170 for the WIN!
Thank you for this info - update, I counted those teeth today, it is 52 on that Pocketboy (those are smaller and there is a smaller gap among them) and 42 on that Gomboy (on the same blade length 17cm). I think I mentioned the curved and straight difference and I agree, for bushcraft or crafting, the straight is better. About the grip, the rubber feels a bit safer, but it is not a deal for me. Especially with a 17cm saw blade, to really get the advantage of the rubber, we have to do a LOT of work... In those years of usage, I didn´t have any problem of that kind. I might agree with your winner but for bushcraft. In my orchard, I use the 24cm Gomboy 90% of the time and I think about that 360 version for that kind of use, or if I´m in a base camp or cabin - longer blade, more wood faster... Have a great time. FM
whats so important about square bottom cuts. ?
Be careful buying this voyager drop point because it comes in two different types of steel you can get it in CS-29AB or AUS10A which is a better steel the AUS10A is the one I ordered
Hi, the CS-29AB isn´t a steel but some CS´s code for an item. This specific is for the L version of the knife. The CS-29AXBZ is the code for the XL version, which is my version of the knife and the knife in my video. They both are made of AUS 10A steel:-) Have a great time. FM
Great video I just ordered me a Voyager drop point from Amazon
Thank you and congratulations on the knife:-) FM
