Hi guys, I used to work with logistics, and I've learned how important is, for the success of any task, always have at hand a contingency plan. I think it is very important for the success of your adeventure that Lavi also rides the motocycle. If she does not do that yet, would be a plus to pratices a little. It is always better be two than just one.

    • @LaviandOllie

@@LaviandOllie ,If you have the opportunity of time, when passing by a good grassy and open area, try to teach her, even though the plans is for you to do the All the riding and she does not have licence yet. This will make this challenge much safer.

Great video and so good to see a video that shows that riding off road is a learning process and not something that comes automatically.

I know people are throwing out a lot of advice, ( and its all good advice ). But in my experience with big ADV bikes, ( i've had
three, still have two of them ). I would go practice in a big muddy, grassy field solo with all the gear off the bike, then WITH all the gear. Your going to be slipping and sliding and falling . Also will give you practice on picking up the bike.
Pick you line. Commit to the line, Eyes Up!, ,and go for it!
Momentum, Momentum, Momentum, That's what I tell myself all the time!
Love the bike , by the way!

Great video Lavi and Ollie. They weren't crashes, just drops. It will happen a lot off road, at least it always did with me. The best bit of advice I got for off road riding was, " Don't look at your front wheel. Look ahead and see the obstacle before you are too close to avoid it." Practice makes perfect, as they say.

I would also suggest some Bark Buster hand gaurds. I used to take my V strom up round there regularly. Some proper 50/50 tyres, I used Mitas E07, good alround tyre, there's some good videos on here about riding big bikes off road, BrettTkacs has some useful stuff on his channel. Off road driver stands pillion stays seated. If you had more time before departure I'd happily take you round some more of the peak district lanes. Enjoy the trip and stay safe

    • @geoffbaker493
      @geoffbaker493 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just to add. When picking the bike up try and position the handle bars so the front wheel is pointing straight up, hold the bars by one grip, bend knees, back straight and use legs to lift. When coming off avoid putting your arms out, it's a sure way of breaking your wrists. And if the bikes going let it fall don't try and catch it.

Absolutely stunning scenery around the 6 minute mark. I'm hoping to get to the UK next year so I'll definitely be riding through there! I've seen that road before in videos made by my English friends.
That was a challenging track for your first time! Talk about throwing yourself in the deep end! It is hard work 2 up offroad on a V-Strom. You did well! Nice video guys, you should look at getting some Heed upper crash bars (Heed Europe), bark busters (protects hands and levers), radiator guard and definitely a sump guard- from Cosmo accessories in greece (oil filter and radiator being pretty exposed- could end your trip prematurely if something flicks into either).
Planning to do a lap of Australia on my Vstrom and all of these seemed necessary on trial trips I have been doing.

Not sure how long till you start the trip but id advise spending as much time as you can getting fully comfortable with the dirt up to it. keep your eyes further ahead on the trail rather than directly in front of you so you have more time to plan you path through the trail. Id also recommend getting both of you comfortable of standing at the same time. ADVPulse has a good tips article on two up offroad.

On a serious note you realized your skill level for off road needs improvement, that alone could save your life, so overall I would say a valuable lesson learned.

Nah not for us, the standing up to steer and leaning out of windows to go around corners just doesn’t cut the mustard as far as we’re concerned. Perhaps we’ll just stick with our ‘Old Gits’ Volvo S90 AWD, and just for the record, we do own sandals, but no Cardigans or Pipe Smoking yet 😂 How are you managing the 90 day limit in the EU, you can reply in the weeks & months ahead when you have some free time. • @Rundownspectre44228

@@LaviandOllie all motorbikes can do it with no issues. Downshifting needs the clutch unless you can rev match (very hard) but upshifting makes it seemless. Just put a bit pressure on the gear lever up but not enough to make a change and then roll back the throttle, it will slip into gear silky smooth.

Learn when to sit and when to stand. There's a time for standing but nowhere near as often as is fashionable. The amount of adventure riders who end up in hospital because they were standing when the road surface changed or hit a sandy patch on a road is alarming. Effectively the rider becomes a pendulum maintaining momentum when bike decelerates under them. If your standing and your wife's sitting where is the advantage in standing.

Look into heed crash bars (upper bars) be nice for more mounting the gopro as well as crash protection and stop trying to force your handle bars off road just relax and make small corrections or your gonna be super beat up when your don't riding. Also learn to adjust your suspension for off road and air down your tires (much less likely to pop a tire and less beating you up as well as bigger contact patch)
