      But the friction would be different. The real Font has superb friction, much better then any gym i know and i bet its the same for granite

      @@dennis1802 You could approximate this with different plastics and additives in the plastic- probably a very tricky problem to solve, but you can obviously get different surface textures to some extent.
      Would be actually a really cool thing, but of course, it's gonna be a little different

      Ah the temptation to replicate project big but replace all the "easy" parts with the 1st and 2nd crux of silence and top it off with every V17 boulder stacked together into one behemoth 10a route.

    I love Will's voice and his ability to stop his motion ice cold? Makes him one of my favorite climbers to watch. It is just so meditative, clean, and always just ice cold.

    Sounds like maybe they made the replica a little harder so that no one would accuse them of it not being legit

      I think it's just really hard to approximate rock with plastic holds. Also 3d scanning routes is still something very new

      It's already super controversial and people argue weather sending the indoor copy counts as sending the real problem. Personally I think if you can send the copy you probably are going to be able to send the real route but the differences pointed out here demonstrate how it's not the same send. I appreciate the video for clarifying this.

      @@jaaki94 I don’t think so, there’s a lot of soft grading happening (esp with all the new gyms cropping up!) meaning some people are disillusioned as to what grade they actually are

      ​@@evolutionofelliot but also just how big of a difference there is for local "legends" that are doing v10s indoors and think they're hotshots, compared to an outdoor v17.
      At my gym, which was soft but now about normal, the v9-v11 dudes act like gods and I try to tell my new v2-v4 friends that the gap between them is far less than the gap between those guys and the v15-17 pros.

    3d scanning is super accurate and precise now, so either it wasn't professionals doing it or the angle and relative placement if the holds was off

      I think it partially comes down to the friction of the materials, really. Real rock is better than 3d printed holds

      Definitely wouldn’t be V18,it’s barely harder. First move is easier on the replica, but last move is harder. A couple people have almost gotten the replica, and all the individual moves have been done. Problem is by the time you’re good enough to start trying the replica, you might as well go do the real thing instead.

      @@caedmonswanson2378 Will Bosi said the first move on the replica is orders of magnitude harder and the last move is way harder too. He only ever got the first move on the replica once but he was able to do the first move on the real thing I think 9 times in a row on one of the days.

      It seems that there is quite agreement that the replica is a bit harder than the real boulder. Perhaps it's not full grade. Almost sending can be still far from sending by the way.

    It almost seems like the replica is designed for you to create your solution up until the last hold. Like once you master the first part, the last hold doesn't matter on the replica because you should just do it on the actual boulder.

    So funny I’ve had massive boulders in my family’s yard forever that I’ve always had fun climbing but there’s some spots on one of the 15-20 tall 50 long 50 wide boulder that we’ve actually had people see from the road and try bouldering with crash pads trying to get up a completely vertical section that you would have to be sick to get up😂 went to the bouldering gym for 3 hours a couple days ago and then spent last night messing around on my private bouldering facility😂😂Fun as hell when you look at them differently then the easiest ways up

      Only for special boulders. A bouldering gym near where i live has a Burden of Dreams replica too. But that is the only replica they have. And they will probably not add other ones.

    its a 3d scan but everything is different sizes. well scanned lol

      it was scanned with a phone i believe, which explains the issues. i think the other issue is getting the angles right, cos obv outdoors it isnt perfectly 40 degrees and its prob very hard to work out how far off a flat wall each part is + friction being diff makes sense cos it isn rock
