Seeing how much they’ve kept from the previous installment while also creating an entirely different game is astounding. They stayed true to their source material and clearly made Helldivers 2 with love. Such an outstanding game.

EDIT: and i really mean that. the first game, i don't remember ever hearing about it, granted i was knee-deep in a liquor bottle back then, not playing PC games. i was at a rough point in my life. however, it sold 2 million copies. That's definitely good numbers with a significant portion of that on playstation, which i don't have. But Helldivers 2 has now sold over 8 million copies, so that's 6 million people who are currently playing the sequel that likely never played the original.

@@Scromanoe Halo Wars is RTS though, and RTS generally don't mesh well with this kind of perspective since it robs the player of Battlefield overview and generally hampers the macro side of things cuz not only do you have to manage an army you're also forced to manage a single entity that is so important whenever it's killed it's either game over or it robs you of control until an arbitrary timer is off.. which is not fun.

Of course, this franchise isn't that huge, nor did they have huge marketing or overall budget, more indie than AAA. Helldivers 2 was not expected to blow up at all.

I didn't expect that this was the first game... Now I know why the game is awesome... the feel, the strategems, the enemies, and the gameplay... it is all the same well expect for the camera perspective... I hope there is more update for HD2
there's a ton in HD1 that I just find better designed than in HD2. the progression. Every stratagem and weapon had multiple unlocks that made it individually better. thats not possible in the sequel. the weapons also felt very different in rythm and playstyle and very effective.. the difficulty was about being overwhelmed by difficult enemy compositions, and abilities that came from all angles. Stealth, evading patrols was an actual part of play instead of accident of janky detection implementation as in HD2. I do not miss the shared camera.
What a fantastic insight into the game that would become Helldivers 2. It's nice to know that rescuing survivors has always been a pain in the ass. Good to see that hasn't changed.

Automatons are essentially a replacement for cybrogs in this game. Also they have heavy ties to the cyborgs, they literally use practically the same logo @@EH_1995
@@neuu8708cyborgs and automatons are two difference species that share similar qualities. I wouldn’t be surprised if the illuminate started attacking the southern part of the galaxy, while the cyborgs attack the north

Came here after Helldivers 2 which is an absolute fucking cinema. Helldivers 1 looks like a game that I'd personally play as well if I were to discover it earlier because this reminds me a lot of Command & Conquer which is one of my favourite game (Red Alert 2 specifically) of all time.
Just to add, I would love to see the developer implement a top down mode / lobby for Helldivers 2. I know it's not for everyone but it's a PvE game, it won't harm them if they do one day.
The gameplay style is somewhat similar to COD Black Ops arcade zombies mode. If I had knew about the first HD game I would have definitely jumped straight into it right away

once you get used to it, its pretty awesome. when you play with people that actually want to be a 'team' you end up mostly right in the middle, and thats actually a lot of view area.
the graphics had to run on Vita! but mechanically it has almost all the same parts. there’s more robust physics now, and more vertical action, and aiming has deeper implications. but their original idea holds up now as well as it did then. mechanics are everything
Helldivers 2 did the unthinkable. A leap of faith, changed the entire game style and now becoming the most popular game.

Imagine being a Helldiver fan that played the original game and then got Helldivers 2. Such an incredible game.

The pacing of the gameplay is so much better here. Enemies are becoming bullet sponges in Helldivers 2 with all the nerfs.

the guns in this sound so much better.... they actually sound powerful as hell, and the laser automatic sounds different from a regular rifle in this.
Pro tip: The Rumbler is a really good weapon against the "big" Cyborgs.

lots of action. I'm not a fan of the overhead view and the way you have to stay bunched up for a good field of view.
once you get used to it, its pretty awesome. when you play with people that actually want to be a 'team' you end up mostly right in the middle, and thats actually a lot of view area.
