    It is a good weapon against a xeonomorph as the molten lead exposure was very quick while xenos on fire will stop to put out the flames only to boil and melt. I believe that the napalm base works well because it does two things to a xeno: melt it's silicon based body to glass thus damaging tissues internal and external, and overheats the fluids within the body potentially causing the acid to boil their organs from within in the same way that putting a jaw breaker in a microwave causing the inside to boil before the outside. The other issue with napalm is the adherence to xeno tissue may cause a pressure shift that sucks gases and fluids from the body killing from the damage done to the insides. While xenomorph can operate in a vacuum for an unknown time, the direct heat of the burning napalm on their skin may cause serious damage to their body's pressurizing compartmentalizing system. So great to use, but use with extreme caution.

      Charlie Pierce It probably could...

    • @KnolltopFarms
      @KnolltopFarms 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, that was my thought as well...and even if their blood isn't flammable per se, the fact that they are all juicy and covered in an exoskeleton, heat should make them burst open violently at the very least in my mind. Comments?

    • @weldonwin
      @weldonwin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'd say the same. The heat from the napalm will cause the liquids inside them to boil and then the exoskeleton ruptures explosively, which is deffianately a bad thing, since you spraying horrifically caustic acid in all directions and shards of steel-hard exoskeleton as well, adding a bonus to this pinata of death.

    As all pulse rifles handed out always wonder why Gorman never used the half full flame unit in the medical battle after the doors were sealed .
    He's seen only using his pistol. would've been ideal for Vasquez ( after ammo gone as a secondary weapon -she'd of made it then!! ) as they were escaping down the air vent shaft but I think James Cameron saved it for the awesome lighting up all the eggs finale .

    Logged, and love this 1. In alien trilogy (ps1) you could kill adult drones but it took a significant amount of fuel to do so. If I was trapped on or in a xenomorph nightmare I would want an M240A1 (with unlimited fuel), a predator spear, or a lightsaber

    Definitely always felt like the flamethrower was more of an assault on the alien's senses, more than on its life. I'm guess it blinds whatever it is using to sense the attacker, and that will get any enemy scrambling for cover.

    • @ptonpc
      @ptonpc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It would be too much of a cliché to fire be able to kill an Alien quickly. I prefer the idea that they are instinctively afraid of it (Perhaps a throwback to being inflammable face huggers and eggs?) and as you say, it blinds them for a little while.

    • @paratus04
      @paratus04 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Friendly Metroid - judging from the Aliens reaction to the flame thrower in Alien Isolation that's probably correct. While it would act warily when Amanda was armed with it and run when hit directly by a significant burst of flame , sometimes it was able to power through and knock her back or even kill her. Definitely seemed more of a shock than actually damaging to Cuddles, (excuse me the Xeno)

    • @fen4554

  • @wildxenomorph7675
    @wildxenomorph7675 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think it's important to point out that a flamethrower is used in the game Alien: Isolation. It burns eggs and kills facehuggers, but it only make the alien dive into the nearest vent. The alien even gradually learns to stay out of range and wait for you to put your guard down, so I don't believe it does any real damage to the creature.

    yeah brotha badass!!! I'm so glad you're keeping up with the weapon series, I wish their sidearms were more unique but they used 9mm HK VP70s because of how futuristic they looked at the time of the movie, As for Vasquez, her sidearm was a Smith & Wesson 39 9mm, but in the Colonial Marines Tech manual it's referred to as the M4A3 which uses regular 10mm cased ammo as apposed to the caseless 10mm rounds the Pulse Rifle fires, all cool side notes maybe for the next weapons video, keep up the good work bro

    The Alien 1 flamethrower in Isolation certainly can't kill an adult xenomorph. I've noticed that if it gets used to you using the flamethrower to scare it off that it will sometimes just stand there and LET you toast it for a while.

    For a time I thought the make-shift incinerators used on-board the Nostromo were always ineffective because of Captain Dallas's trouble in the ventilation shafts, thus thinking fire was ineffective against Xenomorphs. However, after study of the type of fuel used and the Colonal Marines incinerator arsenal they were effective and drawing xenomorphs from hiding places. Not fatal to them, but can cause some damage, and a follow up shot with any firearm including standard pistol rounds, a xenomorph can be killed.

    The best option in melee to avoid the acid splash from its wounds at the time of shoting them, plus makes them recoil back.. the rapid fire is the best at long range though. Since may kill them outright..

  • @DonDiesel885
    @DonDiesel885 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The M240 is a very strong and well designed weapon there's no doubt that it is a powerful tool against the Xeno and their Hives. i can't believe that the military hasn't came up with one of their own that is sporting the same form factor with swappable fuel canister "magazines" Darn that geneva convention...
    if lack of fuel is the problem i feel it could be easily solved by a low-profile backpack style reservoir that could connect to the the back of the rifle

  •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the fire doesnt have effect directly. I mean it could be to some of their senses similar to what happens when predator is in an area full of heat signatures everywhere. Also the chemistry components could be a kind of painful but not deadly.

  • @BenValentine83

    QUESTION: Are Xenos cold-blooded? i.e do their bodies lack a constant body temperature?
    It would explain why
    1) Flamethrowers would scare xenos, but may not (immediately) kill them
    2) Why the Queen Alien built her nest near a nuclear reactor
    3) Why the predators built their training pyramid in Antarctica

    • @sleepptsd7888
      @sleepptsd7888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of it's just a little more complicated than that,
      Xenos aren't warm or cold blooded, rather they regulate their temperature to the environment around them which is why they can't be picked up via thermal infra-red, in a predators bio helmet

  • @Suave-nq7ot
    @Suave-nq7ot 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Remember in the AVP video game it would cause them to burst. Honestly 121 is very resilient to environmental changes but in my opinion it did that over time and not instantly. The creature would suffer damage without being able to adjust to the temperature immediately.

  • @Pooknottin
    @Pooknottin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Flame weapons seem ideal to me. They can be used very effectively for area denial, simply using them provides illumination and since the xenomorph lacks any ranged capability the lack of long range effectiveness is pretty irrelevant. The only drawback for me is the capacity of the fuel cylinders used. A backpack unit might be an improvement if you wanted to optimise the weapon for this purpose and suitable protective heat gear for the user.

    I got the original avp game back in the day. I remember logging in launching the multiplayer and going "hmm, flamethrower sounds like what I'd pick." I don't remember the map but it was the entrance of the hive so it really was like I was just coming in. I walked about two steps before another player (alien) came running out at me I torched him and myself and died. So to me that's canon how I would die in the alien universe.

    I think that since the xenomorph can live in harsh environments and its exoskeleton, it can't be effected by flame unless it's sensitive to sudden thermal change, if the colony on lv-426 adapted to the weather, they would've known the temperature, but I'll say that some xenomorph species that have softer tissue like neomorphs and deacons could theoretically be affected by flamethrowers.

  • @misterG2006

    The movie "Aliens" made the assumption that the Xeno is afraid of fire. I'm not convinced that it is.
    Ash talking about the face hugger "It can shed its cells and replace them with polorized silicon"... "It's an interesting combination which makes it a tough little SOB".
    If the face hugger could adapt itself then it's more that possible the full grown Xeno could do the same.
    Ripley on discovering that Ash was a robot "He's been protecting it right along". It was Ash who suggested using fire, he probably knew it would have little effect on it.
    Ripley to Ash "How do we kill it?", Ash "You can't". He knew they didn't have any weapons (flamethrower) capable of killing it.
    The scene in the air duct were Dallas is "taken". If the Xeno was afraid of fire it would have stayed away, not hunted him down.
    The whole "use fire" tactic was a lie, but is now taken a truth.

  • @HermitagePrepper

    From my experience with the video games the results were more often different. With the PC games AVP one a burst of fire would set the xeno on fire but it will remain alive for a period of time before dying and AVP two flamethrower burst was more instant death. As for the recent game Isolation it only really scared him

    Yay another video! I done subscribed. I want to hear your theories on the Alien from Alien Isolation. I just started playing that game and it's interesting seeing the differences between how indestructable it is versus aliens shown in other media like Aliens: Colonial Marines (which we do not talk about). I assume it's because there are no high grade military rounds or weapons in that game world that the Xenomorph can't be killed or hurt but I'm very curious as to whether it's because of the weapons used against it (since I always assumed they could be killed by fire and that one won't be killed) or if the Xenomorphs really have super thick exoskeletons that are almost impossible to penetrate. I dnno, just some theories.

  • @sumguyman8656

    I feel this is more of a suppressive weapon system against xenomorphs...the tolerance to heat displayed by the species in the lead works was hard proof of the inefficiency of the weapon against a full sized xenomorph. Always best to have the ol pump action 12 GA handy for close encounters.

    Lead melts at 327 Celsius. WW2 Napalm burns at about 1000 Celsius. So even if the molten lead vat was twice it's melting point, say 600 C, old fashioned napalm is about twice the temperature. I reckon it would work, but probably not for an instant kill, instead sending the flaming alien screaming off into the dark recesses of the infested complex. In the 90's board game, flamers were essential to eliminating aliens up close to avoid acid splash.

    I know I used this weapon a lot in the Konami arcade video game adaptation of Aliens, that's for sure.

    Yes. The main reason: any weapon can be effective. So long as it is used correctly and effectively.

    Well, in the world of games (AVP), the M240A1 worked rather well against the Xenomorph. Then again, I tended to use the M240A1 while backing away from my attackers. In other words, I did not stay around in the moment of the heat (as in "close combat with tons of Xenomorphs"). Off-topic, wouldn't a freezing kind of weapon work rather well against the Xenomorph? You know, kind of like the Duke Nukem freeze Ray. Because then you could freeze them and just smash them to bits with whatever.

    Could make a video about what determines the xenomorph from being a drone or a warrior as it's implanted into its host

    Lead has a relatively low melting point for a metal, about 330 degrees C. On the other hand even a cigarette can burn at higher temperatures than that, while acetylene can be almost ten times higher. The alien may be more resistant to heat than a human, but it will also have its limits that a military flamethrower can exceed. Look up flame temperatures on Wikipedia for some examples. All in the table there are in the thousands of degrees C.

    To me, having the flamethrower is good for burning eggs, facehuggers and chest bursters. But for tackling a full grown Xenomorph or more, I'll use it to scare it away if need to. But I'll use the good ol M41A Pulse Rifle against them any day.

    If a flamethrower is precise your not using it right

      It saves fuel to be precise, and it can cause more damage.

      IRL man portable flamethrowers only have 10-15 seconds of juice in them. You can't use it randomly.

    This is what you want. Xenos don't give a shit if your shooting a pulse rifle at them. The flamethrower on the other hand makes them think twice about engaging you at all.

    Maybe not the most effective weapon against fully matured Xenos, but careful aim can annihilate eggs, huggers, and juveniles in moments. However, the mature adults can only withstand the flame for so long before their protective exoskeleton cracks. If you can sustain fire on them, they will not survive. The best method is to use flames and cryonic weapons in tandem. This will heat and cool them very quickly, inducing temperature shock. Ripley’s allies killed a xenomorph this way in Alien 3.

    In AVP 2 there is only one place you can pick up a flamethrower, and you easily can miss it.

    Very effective against premature (eggs, facehuggers, and worms) some what on smaller bugs [drones, runners]. Useless against larger i.e Preatorins, Predaliens, and of course Queens.

    You should explain hypersleep and cryotubes, and how did Ripley survived 57 years with nothing more than just groginess. And how the Narcissus held its energy for that long. Was it solar or something?

    Late to the party, but in case anyone is curious... Turns out molten lead isn't particularly hot: 621F or 327C. So probably not a very good reference for the effectiveness of sci-fi flamethrowers.
    If I were trying to design a weapon against the Xenos, I'd be looking for a flamethrower-like chemical weapon, that could eat through the xeno while neutralizing its blood, maybe even impeding their movement while it works. Probably wouldn't be man-portable.

    A question about Amanda Ripley. We know from the Aliens extended cut that she died in her 60's. This indicates that she was likely rescued by Verlaine at the end of Alien Isolation. Seeing as she had heard her mothers final Nostromo log and she had escaped destruction of the Nostromo and the creature, what did Amanda do?
    Did she try and convince the company to look for her mother? (Not likely I think). Did she hide everything she knew about her mother, LV426, and the Nostromo from the company? (Probably since rescuing her mother would have led the company to LV426). Did she try and set up a private rescue, maybe asking Verlaine to look for her? (It's not immediately obvious Amanda would have give up on rescuing her mother)
    There's a lot of open ended questions that would have to be tied off so Alien Isolation would fit in between Alien and Aliens.
