Just to note on the Pulse Rifle, there are two crucial details from the Colonial Marines Manual on the Caseless 10mm M1309 Round the rifle is chambered in. Specifically? It's muzzle velocity and weight. Now, while that alone doesn't translate to understanding all of its ballistic data (not that we'd need to anyways), we can at least get a basic grasp of what kind of power they wanted out of this cartridge. It's a 210gr bullet traveling at 840m/s, which equals roughly 4800 Joules of energy. To compare? 7.62x51mm NATO typically has an energy of 3500 Joules. Colonial Marines are equipped with a gun that is blasting these kind of bullets at 900rpm... And they have 90+ rounds per magazine too... Also, technically, the bullets also blow up-intended to detonate as the round enters your insides.
Spot on. Games like Aliens: Colonial Marines and even the newer Aliens: Fireteam Elite do not understand what the Pulse Rifle is. It’s not just a futuristic sci fi M4. This is a game changer. There would not be submachine guns or what have you post this thing. The Pulse Rifle ticks almost every box for military small arms it can. The Smart Gun even would be more of an anti-technical, overwatch platform more than anything. The M41A pulse rifle is a sub machine gun, a rifle, a squad automatic weapon and can also provide grenadier capability. As you said above these things have a 95 round magazine. That’s insane. The technical manual even has Marines using the grenade launcher as a pocket mortar. Hicks bringing a shotgun wouldn’t have even made real sense. He just likes extra weight. Even the flamethrowers would be situational at best in the face of the pulse rifle. When it comes to sci fi weaponry, the Pulse rifle is up there with Star Treks phaser and Judge Dreads lawgiver. True evolutionary weapons.
@@ilikesaying In effect, pretty much. However, Bolters in 40k are distinct in that their rounds are also propelled by jet fuel for extended/consistent ranged performance. There's normal propellant pushing it out of the gun, and then the bullet's thrusters propels itself after leaving the barrel.

I didn't think of that until now. Thats badass idea. In 2021 the Corps is a branch of the navy so the UNSC would include the Corps so it could be possible in another universe lol 😆

If you enjoyed this like I did, I highly recommend checking out the Aliens tabletop RPG from Free League Publishing. The core rulebook came out in late 2019 and they've had two excellent expansions for it so far. Whether you're a Weyland-Yuntani employee, a humble space trucker or an awesome Colonial Marine, there is something for everyone there. Likewise the Aliens: Fireteam Elite video game did a good amount of work to further expand on the lore laid down in the RPG, to the point where events in the RPG are directly referenced in the game. The game itself is a bit short and gets stale once you wipe out campaign but if you want a $40 dollar team based horde shooter, I highly recommend it. Though I would try to catch it on sale if you can just for that extra bit off.
Here's some interesting ideas for future content. 1. Factions or dossiers on characters from Army of Two. 2. Factions from the Tom Clancy video game franchises. Most notably factions like Ghost Recon and Rainbow, and events like World War 3 (Endwar).
@The Templin Institute I always wanted to know more about the colonial marines thank you for this. Next please do a video on the United Progressive Peoples. They are rarely mentioned in any lore or media and i would like to know more about them as well. :)
Hold up. They need to have a "Clean police record"? Both Vasquez and Drake were canonically convicts who signed up with the USCM to get out of prison... It's covered in Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report.
"Is this gonna be a stand up fight Sir or another bug hunt?" "We gonna know when we are there private." "Where are we going?" "A little planet named Tyran. Not a big deal I suppose."
The MAU however lack anyone _being left in their Star lift capability_ (Navy Starship) while they are deployed on surface operations. This is a difference from the current USMC doctrine, who *don't* leave their amphibious assualt ships completely abandoned while they are undertaking landing operations.
It is true that we never actually see any Navy personnel aboard the Sulaco, but that's probably because the movie focuses solely on Ripley and the Marines. The sailors (spacers?) were probably just doing their jobs off screen, and keep in mind that the Conestoga-class relies extensively on automated systems, which means that the only Navy personnel aboard would be the bare minimum required for the ship to run efficiently, and there's also the possiblity that they were androids commanded by a human officer.
@@TruePacifist201 I always though that, given it’s the future, the ship was almost entirely autonomous. So it just freed up everyone else for ground operations.

@@nikkity5491 yeah. Just wrapped up my binge with Seasons 1 to 3. Gonna start up with Season 4. And eventually...Season 5.
@@scarecrow108productions7 4 and 5 are ok , but aren't as strong as the other three at least to me
The setting of the book was much better than whatever the hell they did.
I thought the Halo content was over for now, a treat to be sure...oh.
Nah, love it all, do keep it up!
If the Marines had better understanding of the Xenomorphs and better leadership the battle would of turned out much different.
The moment Gorman told them to
" collect magazines " they were screwed.
That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Best part is you only need to bring a few packs of crayons to keep them fed.
That's army, marines live off sheer bloodlust for civilian casualties
Love your content and your channel ! I’ve been amazed and endorsed in lore and amazing history ! I love your channel, Keep the Knowledge/amazement Stream comin !
I’d love to see you guys do some videos on the factions of Legend of the Galactic Heroes (The Galactic Empire, Free Planets Alliance, Dominion of Phezzan, etc)
i think the institute should make an video about the difference from navy, army, marines, and starfighter /aerospace soldiers in SCI-FI.
5:39 - Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a BANQUET! Every paycheck's a fortune. Every formation's a parade! I LOVE THE CORPS!!
This movie and its special effects were mind blowing for that time. I mean the power loader is even cool today. Imagine watching that sh*t in 1986.
"I'm ready, man. Check it out! I am the ultimate bad-ass! State of the bad-ass art! You do not want to fuck with me. Check it out! Hey, Ripley, don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate bad-asses will protect you! Check it out. Independently targeting particle-beam phalanx. WHAP! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phase plasma pulse rifles, RPGs. We got sonic, electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, we got sharp sticks"
Hudson: How do I get out of this chickens#!* outfit.
Apone: You secure that shit, Hudson!
I still await one on Admiral Preston Cole from Halo.
I would love to see a series of Colonial Marines fighting a war against Xenos like in the old comics.
I've been waiting for this movie
Disney supposedly doing something with the franchise but don’t know what, I read they wanna reboot the first movie, god I hope not.
@@Jamal7070 oh god no
We’re in the pipe 5 by 5!
Aliens has such a deep lore. Even the RPG and Aliens Fireteam Elite have made that lore deeper.
I'm a USMC veteran & i swear this is almost like a recruiting video 😂
Ultimate Badass Warriors.
Top Suggestions:
*Shadaloo-Street Figher*
*Umbrella Corporation and* *BSAA-Resident Evil*
*Hydra and its subsidiaries-Marvel Comics*
*Red Ribbon Army-Dragon Ball*
Hey, could you guys create an Alien playlist? Cause, that'd be easier then trying to find each individual video.
PFC VASQUEZ: LET'S ROCK!
I paused aliens right at the drop to LV to watch this. Compliments the movie well.
Good stuff, this
The image at 8:32 is fascinating. Looks like USCM vs. Bunch of protomorphs (?) with Engineer statues in the background.
Same goes with the image at 8:53
Cheyenne dropshit flying over some glow-in-the dark Nazca line drawings.
The compliment of Marines sent to Hadley's Hope appeared to be roughly half of a platoon, comprised of two squads each comprised of a rifle team and a gun team. Sgt. Apone led squad 1 while squad 2 was directed by Cpl. Hicks.
ABSOLUTELY BADASSES
It would be kind of cool to see you guys do Zeon from Mobile suit Gundam or the Earth federation from Mobile suit Gundam
Don't forget the Colonial Marines Technical Manual and the novelization by (who else?) Alan Dean Foster.
Its neat to see how close this is in structure and capabilities of the USMC
Funnily enough I just started up my Xbox 360 for the first time in 2 years and the game was in the disc drive lol.
Duuude...i'm really enjoying the rate you guys put up new videos.
I'm gonna get yelled at, but as a kid, I enjoyed the Aliens: Colonial Marines video game.
"Hoorah to Ashes"
It's a guilty pleasure of mine as well. The customization is was great.
Here's some interesting ideas for future content.
1. Factions or dossiers on characters from Army of Two.
2. Factions from the Tom Clancy video game franchises. Most notably factions like Ghost Recon and Rainbow, and events like World War 3 (Endwar).
@(The Templin Institute) where did you get this fantastic USCM-themed artwork? This stuff belongs on Recruiting Posters all around Gateway Station!
Why is that logo reminiscent of the Star League logo from The Last Starfighter?
Oh I loved the end gave me chills " no one will hear them scram" oh dame I still have chills as I type this up
I really love your usage of motion graphics, excellent editing.
Between Ripley and Leia, I was certainly doomed to love strong women.
Colonial Marine Corp: Where harsh language is expected to be used against xenomorphs.
“How do I get outta this chickens*** outfit?”
"You secure that sh*t Hudson!"
Hey Vasquez you ever been mistaken for a man?
No, have you?
So this is the future of the space force?
LETS ROCK!
I'm surprised that a film that came out in 1979 has so much lore... Well then again, Star Wars exists, though true expansion of that universe didn't happen untill the late 90s
1986, original Alien was in 1979.
Ideas:
1. Conan
2.White Wolf
3. Delta Green
Nukes, knives and sharp sticks xD
Every time i see a xenomorph i only remember these words:
Private Hudson : We're all gonna die, man!
Apone: You secure that shit Hudson!
It's hot in here, but it's a dry heat man!
1:50 I want to hear more about this campaign.
want a Colonial Marines TV series with : Aliens , Predators , Constructors , Synthetic Revealers , UPP , United Americas , The Three Worlds , and a bunch of other " baddies " .
good to see something not based on a video game for a change
I know that you did an episode on HNL and The Flood so I was thinking that it might be pretty cool to do an episode on the Upside Down and a few of it’s monsters and stuff like that.
To me The USCM is also in space Above and Beyond I know they are separate universes but they feel the Same.
Great show.
Thank you the English subtitle.
Right off the bat men gearing up.
We really do need to see The return of the colonial Marines to the big screen. It's soo overdue
Also thought they were going to do a Jumpscare with an Alien at the end of the video.
Great video overview !
My favorite Sci Fi branch of service!
By the way, it's a shame that still today we don't have a mod that allows us to play with the UAAC in Stellaris. 😔😤
Sometimes you know what comes nect, like Halo. And sometimes you guys pull something from nowhere, like Alien XD
One faction I really want to be featured on this is from a Fan mod:
Foehn Revolt | Command & Conquer Mental Omega
Activation of the Mental Omega caused the whole world to be mind-controlled. USA is lost. USSR is infiltrated. The Proselyte of Yuri’s forces is taking over. All hope seems lost.
With cold winds ever brewing in the shoulders of the survivors, desperately holding against yuri’s forces at Point Hope, Alaska, a single phrase, a rallying call from people that sacrificed too much to combat such evil to bring themselves a warmer future “The Revolution starts here!”
Don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you! Check it out! Independently targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phased plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks...
I miss this icon, I used to play CM SS13 (now I play Foxhole)
Hope to see them investigate the Terran republic from planetside 2
You know a year back there was an investigation on the metro universe and the red line and the Reich were investigated. But did we review the Rangers of the Spartan order? Or the many mutant species?
