    It’s interesting how you think you know how to use something as simple as tape, then this video shows up and you find out you had no idea. Thanks Kevin for the tech tips and keep them coming!

    3m used to make a product that was sticky foam in different diameter that works well and saves time. Soft edge that doesn't need to be sanded and buffed to remove the edge, the porous foam absorbs the excess paint and leaves a super clean transition. I guess they still make it, came in a box on a roll, been years since I've used it and not the cheapest product but worth every penny.

    Kevin you can use cheap nylon rope in appropriate diameter to stuff those seams and it is re useable. Use your plastic card like for bondo to push it into place. 8 bucks at Walmart for 100ft

    I like the tape tool. Having it on the hip would be handy as HEL (you know) LOL Double back masking takes more time but I use it on the more expensive jobs vs tape lines. Wish I had TH-cam 40 years ago😂🤣😂 Always learning new stuff still😎

    Great video once again Kevin! I once did an entire respray on a car in a single car garage, the door jambs and under the hood etc came out of the gun looking like glass no polishing needed no orange peel too, then once i had finished the outer panels i found that the glue on the masking tape had disolved or dried out and lifted allowing overspray on my near perfect door jambs, i could have cried!! 😂 rookie mistake like you say make sure your tape is fit for automotive use i should have known the deal i got on the entire box (around 50 rolls) was too good to be true P.S Love that tape holster too 😎👌

    We always use rolled up newspapers. It works really well and it's cheap because everyone in shop gets atleast 1 newspaper a week free from our local newspaper plus you can have others collect them for you.

    Thank you for the video. Unless you've tried some of these tasks like masking before painting, you just can't imagine the time it takes. I seem to struggle with getting the tape just right to minimize the hard lines...not as easy as it looks imo.

  • @ZachAss11
    @ZachAss11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great tricks but you should look into foam aperture tape! It’ll save a lot of time and is very accurate

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Zach, thanks for the comment!! I used aperture tape ( foam tape) when i was a technician in collision shops. Granted it's been a minute, but I wasn't happy with the results... it let me down many times, and pulled out of corners, and the adhesive let go too many times for me to trust it. That said, It (like everything else) has probably gotten better over the years. I may try it again, but it's expensive, and it cost me time, so I don't want to point people towards it if I'm not 100% sold on it. The methods I show work, and anyone with a roll of tape can use them. 3M DART is $60.00 for a box.

    Good tips, however I don’t like the tape caddy. Body shops are always full of grinding dust. What happens when you set your tape down on a workbench or toolbox that has grinding dust on it? The metal shavings stick to the magnets, then when your masking the car and you stick it to a body panel, you now put scratches and metal shavings into your primer. At least if your contaminating the surface by putting your tape roll on the panel, it will be cleaned with grease and wax remover which should be done before spraying.

    • @GingerBriggs-hn1ci
      @GingerBriggs-hn1ci หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback & we value positive and negative. For those shops that struggle with metal shavings contaminating the tape or magnetic surface, we created The Tape Caddy (belt/pocket) tool so you do not have to place it directly on the car surface. It’s always with you and you never have to chase it if you keep it on The Tape Caddy with other tools used for masking as well. Have a blessed day!!

    Is there ever a reason for blue tape? After using it a while you are willing to pay more for good tape. I like to pinch pennies but some places it's just not worth it. Cheap duct tape, electricians tape, painters tape it's just not worth the savings.

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure! Blue tape is great for latex paint and household projects. The decent stuff is not cheap though!

    You lost me, putting tape inside the gap between the fender and Hood. I don't get it.

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You don't want over spray in those areas... Especially if they're not prepped... What don't you get?

    • @kennethrooks9590
      @kennethrooks9590 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sorry, but the time you spent screwing around trying to put tape in-between the jamb I could have the whole hood and fender taped and be moving on to something else, just run a 6 or 12" piece of masking paper on the inside of the jamb and move along

    • @karaDee2363
      @karaDee2363 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@paintucation, if you're spraying the same color, who cares if there's overspray inside those gaps. Nobody's going to see it

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@karaDee2363 You're right, you don't get it. Overspray on un-prepped surface is gritty, inconsistent, collects dirt,and it will eventually flake off because its UN PREPPED. As long as you never open a door hood, fuel door, trunk, or hatch, you're right nobody will see it. I don't understand your debate.

      I have to start with a huge Thank you! I've been painting (starting with rattle cans) for 50 years. Leave it to you to teach me something new. I guess the old saying, "It's what you learn after you know everything that counts". Again, many thanks, see you Saturday ~ Chuck
