    Hey guys, as promised, this is EXACTLY what we did in physical therapy. Will this work for you? I can't say. But this is working amazingly for me, so I had to share!
    Now, please note I am not a doctor, not a physical therapist, frankly I am in no state to offer anyone professional advice. That being said, this is working for me.
    As I have noted in previous videos, I'm not 100% certain that what I have is Dystonia. Either way, this is working. The two things you need are a tension band, and someone else's help for at least ten minutes.

    Does anyone have Dystonia of the left arm? Doctors diagnosed me with primary limb Dystonia. My left arm muscles are contracting all day causing my arm to be in constant motion. Rytary has not helped. Any suggestions?

    Thank you for your effort to make this video. I've been dealing with what's diagnosed as cervical dystonia. And have been searching for answers everywhere I can. Posture, exercise and stress seem to play a big role in this. As a truck driver all those factors I have to deal with. Along with the fact my jaw is crooked due to missing molars on my right side for the past 15yrs. This disorder takes the life right out of you. I'm depressed, irritated, mad/sad all at the same time. I feel sorry for all others that may have to deal with this as well. God bless us all and especially ones who may have it worse than I do. Take care

    It seems to all boil down to a bad posture, lack of exercise, heavy metals in the body and neck/brain injury. Stress contributes big time too! I have it and have had it for years. Your videos helped me tremendously, as I was absolutely disheartened and thought I might be on the way to surgery for multiple sclerosis. I had a neck trauma years ago, I have also heavy metals in my body due to being pescatarian..You are a way shower! THANK YOU, blessings and all the best! You are a bright star

    Hah seeing your treatment all I can think about is the horseback riding I do as I have to sit up strait elbows in and strengthen my core. (for all others I too have dystonia). I only had physio for my walking not my arm or neck, but its good to see that the riding may be helping me more than I thought. Well exercise is always good and I am very happy to see you feeling better. even though I only saw you today as I watched several videos on your timeline its really nice to see your progression. Keep it up.

    I have the exact same thing. I have been receiving Botox Injections from January 2017 and there is hardly any change. I am going to try Physical Therapy. I am so glad I found your TH-cam video.

      Thank you so much for your comment! Have you had any good results from your physical therapy? For me, botox didnt seem like a cure, because it is just covering up the symptoms. I have heard several people say that the injections either never worked, or their body built up a tolerance too them and they stopped working.
      In your physical therapy, inquire about targeted accupressure on the spasmodic muscle. That was the one thing that has given me the best results.

    Thanks for sharing! My cervical dystonia is terrible. I can't hold my head up at all without using my hand. I can't afford any treatment, so today I bought a TENS electric machine. A $77 one, thought I"d better make it worth my while. So far it's helped. Actually helped. We'll see as the days go on.

    Awesome video and great to see your success. I've had dystonia for 4yrs. I recently remembered some information about agonist and antagonist muscles, and how when activating (agonist) muscles, the muscles that move the limb in the opposite direction (antagonist) switch off to allow the movement. All the dystonia treatments (botox, etc.) aim to switch of the involuntary agonist muscle (the muscle firing without control). But, as you've shown, you may be able to turn off the problem muscle by activating the opposite muscle, causing the automatic "muscle relax" signal to go to the problem muscle. After 3yrs of botox I stopped and have been doing exercises similar to what you described and the symptoms/neck twist is about 50-60% reduced. Botox only managed 20% at most. It is surprising (or maybe not) that approaches that use muscle activation/deactivation reflexes aren't used to deactivate/switch off the problem muscle, and instead of allowing a natural physiological mechanism to correct the issue, we use a toxin to temporarily deaden the problem muscles.

    I've been to so many Doctors. I even went to the top Neurologist at Cedar Sinai in Beverly Hills, and he injected me with Botox and made it 100 times worse. I couldn't hold my head up for months. I had a bag of drugs he prescribed me as well, which I weaned myself off of and now a cannabis user, saved me.. I'm battling this everyday, and trying to find ways of healing myself naturally. Thank you for this. I was diagnosed with essential tremor but I think I was misdiagnosed. I have exactly the same side to side head tremor as you. I also get muscle spams in different parts of my body and suffer with fatigue from spasms. I have been taking propanolol for years and I never see any noticeable difference . Everything you are saying about doing PT makes so much sense. I'm going to get a band and see if strengthening those back muscles will give me a little relief. It can't hurt! ❤️

    My neck/head doesn't stop shaking.. My neurologist told me that I have a cervical dystonia.. And because of that I also have a severe scoliosis.. I've tried botox injections for a couple of years but I am still shaking and my back and neck muscles on the right side are suffering from spasms.. It always hurt, every second of my life! And most of the times I just get teary eyed because I want this to end.. I am suffering this condition since I was 6 and now I am 31.. I also have difficulty in handling things because my left hand is also shaking and I can't control it even if my doctors always tell me that it is all in the mind, I can control it.. And it is so frustrating because I know that I wanted to do so many things on my own but my body doesn't cooperate - my head is shaking, my neck and my back are hurting because of the spams and they keep shaking and twisting, my left hand is shaking and I am left handed.. 😭💔🖤

    Thanks for sharing! I agree on the misdiagnose section. My neck trembles when sitting down in a short "no-no motion". When I move my head slowly all the way up and all the way down where the chin hits my body the motion is very jagged or jerky and far from smooth. I tremble during a movements like that, but in those cases just up and down and not side to side. I have no tremors in my neck or head while walking or standing up. I haven't had it for more than 3 months so I don't know how it will develop. I have anxiety and been battling it for a good 20 years now, but it's never been as strong as now with all the physical symptoms. Been taking Xanax on and off for all these years as well. I went to a neurologist assessment, and sure enough after just a few minutes of checking me I was told I have a 1% diagnose called essential tremor. 1% cause that's how many people have it in my small country. I was terrified so my tremors got even worse after that, but now I'm starting to doubt that diagnose cause there's so many people with severe anxiety that suffers from tremors, muscle twitches and "shakes". Could all these physical reactions be generated from mental strain? I was hoping the tremors are "only" anxiety and not a rare neurological decease. Could the neurologist be wrong? She also told me that my anxiety was making my tremors worse. Telling me I have a neurological decease that only 1% of the population in my country have was a terrible shock. Now I'm working hard to receive a second opinion from another neurologist. I've also heard that neurology can be a tricky medical area in terms of diagnoses and neurologists can have very different views on the same matters.

    Thank you for your videos; most helpful. Still dealing with head tremors, esp. in stressful situations. Luckily I have a sense of humor with this. My photographs all have to be straightened using Photoshop as my head pulls to one side. A few years ago I was in the dentist chair with the novocaine needle getting closer and closer....my head shaking became worse and worse. The dentist and his assistant (thinking it was my frightened nerves) began laughing so hard - they had to go into the next room to calm down. I didn't know then that I had dystonia and thought it was my nerves. I studied piano for 10 years, and play by ear BUT if they ask me to play in public, my anxieties are so great I just cannot steady my head tremors. I will certainly try your exercises and my neurologist has suggested a couple of light Botox injections so start with....I will try it once and see what happens. Good luck with your program and thank you for your videos. Twenty years with head tremors; just diagnosed now.

    Hey Ash. I'm writing from Denmark. I have musclespasms as well, and during the last 3 years, i have had doctors telling me that it's all in my head. So in the end i just accepted that i was going crazy. I'm so pissed at those doctors, but now things are happening. I just went to a fysiotherapist, she tested my neck, and my neckspasms went haywire, so now we now that it's not in my mind, and i cant tell you what a relieft that is. Sooo, i'm seeing another neurologist, and hoping to get a correct diagnosis. Thank you for sharing. I'll try out the exercise, and put it in my program. I think its a winner!

      Im so glad you found someone that will listen to you! I think the hardest part is getting someone to just believe you. Especially here in the united states, doctors don't have much time to see each patient. So unless you are dying, they don't have time to diagnose you. Keep me updated with your physical therapist exercises! I want to know your progress, good and bad.

      Will do. Same problem here in Denmark with doctors that are simply too busy. You get to the point where you kinnda become your own doctor. You know what i mean? Man, all the hours spend on the internet reading about symptoms etc., I could have spend travelling or something. Well, just saying, i'm glad i'm not the only one who has to go through this. Thank you so much for your reply!! Hope you're doing well and enjoying life in spite of this speed bump we have encountered. I will look into acupuncture. Massage feels great when being given but then spasms return as soon as she stops....but it sure feels good at the time. :-} Eating yellow mustard seems to bring a little relief..go figure. Maybe because of the turmeric. Trying essential oils vetiver, burgamont, and cedar wood, Frankensence (spelling on all of them???). Two of your stretches also help some and easy swimming, not pushing it for, 30min only. 😍

      You mentioned you had anxiety. If I may ask, did you take any medication for that? Also what type of anxiety? Social? I've had some tremors for some years now and my head pulls to the right side...I have to fight it a lot. I was just trying to figure out if the anxiety or the medicine has anything to do with the dystonia. I will have to go to the traction therapy cause I just can't stand to live like this. I feel like I'm not even human anymore. Anyway I hope you're doing good and thank you for your courage. You're probably helping out many many people with the same problem by making these videos. • @kipupiste

    Thank you for the videos about cervical dystonia. So many familiar feelings. I was diagnosed with CD about 6 months ago. I've been on a quest to find if I can work on this on my own, until I can find a professional that I'm happy with. I've also had chronic depression for pretty much my whole life -- much better managed these days, but it's flaring again now... for understandable reasons. So a lot of what you've talked about feels incredibly familiar.
    I've had botox twice now, it seems to help with tremor and headaches, but not the pain. My best help so far for the tremor aside from botox seems to be... scarves. I keep one wrapped quite tight around my neck whenever I can, up to my jaw. It keeps that annoying shaky feeling at bay, the one that doesn't really go away even if there's no visible tremor. Doesn't help with the pain though.
    Another thing that seems to help is simply time. My symptoms were very bad just after diagnosis. Now that I'm getting used to them, I don't stress about them as easily, and ironically, they've gotten less. Of course the botox has an effect, too, but even on bad days, I can sleep now for instance, even though my head may shake a little bit when I'm lying down. I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping in the beginning.
    Exercise definitely makes me feel better, I've done strength training for years but some of the exercises you've shown are still quite hard! Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a good physiotherapist so far. The quest for a good set of daily exercises continues. Simply working out tension and getting the blood circulating by doing spine mobility exercises seems to help a lot, though the pain always comes back eventually.
    Sorry about super long comment, I didn't plan to write a novel but there it is :-) Thank you again, and all the best to you.

      kipupiste Thank you so much for sharing your struggles! I'm so sorry to hear what you've had to endure. I'm glad your on a search for a physical therapist, if nothing else, they can help with the pain and release tension. On that note, have you tried K tape? What you were describing with the pressure of your scarf helping, I think you'd be a great candidate for kinesthetic tape. I've found it at most large department stores, eBay, and Amazon.

    • @kipupiste
      @kipupiste 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I try to be happy for not having it worse than this... at least the pain mostly just happens when I move around. K tape: my massage therapist / acupuncturist has used it a few times on the back of my shoulders and it does seem to help a little in my opinion, probably in the same way as pressing down with one's hand on a sore spot helps? But to work on the tremor, the tape would have to be on my face, which is not really something I want :-)

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kipupiste No, tape on your face wouldn't be a good thing, lol. How your anxiety/stress level?

    • @kipupiste
      @kipupiste 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for delay! I'm not that active on TH-cam so I forget to check my notifications. Definitely some stress/anxiety going on, and has been for years... I'm trying to manage it by doing things I enjoy and not allowing myself to hole up and not see anybody outside of work (I live alone, so social life doesn't happen unless I arrange it). Lately I've started working out again, with 2 modified weight workouts per week. So far it doesn't seem to make my dystonia much worse, and helps to keep me sane. I miss walking though. I try to do it a few times a week, but it really tenses up my back... I basically have to lie down for the rest of the evening if I walk for more than 2 km :-(

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kipupiste that's excellent that you've identified that being an issue. It is very difficult to socialize when it doesn't come naturally- like at school, work, etc. Especially being an adult. As children it was mandatory to make friends, but it's awkward as an adult! Lol. And the dystonia just adds that extra stress factor. But I'm so glad to hear you're working out. Even if you aren't noticing huge benefits, exercise is excellent to combat depression, (which seems to go hand in hand with a disability). Keep up the good work! We're all rooting for you!

    Thank you for your videos. They are SO helpful! Is the spasming muscle on the side that your held pulls to? My head pulls left and that side of my neck is tight and the shoulder is higher, so I'm assuming that's the side of the spasm but i can't feel anything.

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interestingly my head leans more to the right, and my right shoulder is much higher than my left. However, the muscle in my neck that is spasming is on my left side.
      But consider the torsion of the neck. Our heads are constantly twisting left and right when we move our heads. So if you place your hand on one side of your neck- let's say the left side, and you turn your head to the right you can feel that muscle contracts when looking to the left, (not to the right). It's because our muscles pull when they contract. I hope that makes sense. Its difficult to explain ^_^'

    Great video! I have Cervical Dystonia too and my muscle spasm is in exactly the same spot. I’m wondering what is that muscle called? Anyhow, I’m going to give this a try. I’ve been dealing with this for 10 years now. My head just constantly turns to the left and it’s torture. Now in the last year it is combined with a side to side head shake. Here’s hoping this works. Thank you!!!

    I abused drugs so much that it gave me head nodding when I drink caffeine and tremors when in a normal state. I found that skateboarding or strenuous hiking both reduce it and help because of the element of focusing on balance.

      Thank you so much for commenting. I am so sorry you are going through this. I have found anything that stresses me is a trigger for my head spasms. I try to keep my shoulders relaxed, because when they tense up it triggers my spasm. I am glad you found something that helps. Keep us posted if you find anything that makes it worse, or better!

    Thank you very much for the video. I newly diagnosed with cervical distonia. I am suffering this for 5 years. Previously I went to 3 doctors and they said that it is tremor and physcological issue. But fo one year i have already found that i have distonia then i went to a prof and said nothing. Then the doctor immediatelly diagnosed me that i have distonia. For a long time i thought that it is because of weak lower back muscles. In my opinion you are on the right way. It is very good to hear that a second person thinks same thing. When i felt stifness i focus on my lower back and try to relax shoulder mucles. But it is not always possible. I am a mother and i have a lot of duties that i have to do. I am 38 and i feel exhausted. I would choose not to live if my daughter not exist. It is very hard to live with these questions of people and with the pains increasing with the faitugue. My stiffened muscles are same as yours. And my tremor pattern are up-down. Now i have the handshakes. Tremors at the lover back started. But i will solve this with your method. I wish i saw your video 5 years ago. It took for me a lot of time to understand the reason. I congratulate you. Possibly you will help most distonic people. Sorry if my English is not so good. Note: i have never painted my hair. Your hair looks beautiful. :)

      First, thank you so much for sharing! I think one of the hardest aspects of dystonia is the social issue- talking about it, how people react to us when we shake, etc. So I commend your bravery. Do not give up! I know there are days when you just don't want to try anymore, but you are right, your daughter needs you. Think about everything you are teaching her. Just by never giving up, you are teaching her the incredible importance of perseverance. She will be eternally grateful for that, especially as an adult.
      My goal is that between all of us with dystonia, we can figure out methods to ease the tremors, and possibly find a root cause of this condition. Lets change the world 💖

      +Zühal Bakir +Life With Us Thank you so much for your answer. Sometimes i feel very bad. I wrote this comment while i am desperate. Now i feel better. I believe that there is a simple reason behind that disesase and one day it will be solved easily. Even your method makes a great improvement. There is a man who says he recovered thanks to dancing. Did you hear that? There is the videos on youtube on that. Also i wonder if you ever used computer long times. I am an electronics engineer and spending too much time in front of computer. I wonder if there is a relation between computer usage and distonia. May be you can prepare a video for asking comments the jobs done when distonia arised. Thank you for your efforts. I know even writting something would cause some spasms. I hope one day we recover permanently.

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zühal Bakir I did see the man who danced. Dr. Farris is the doctor who helped him. Excellent video on that.
      I do use the computer a lot, I wonder if there is a link. I think if all of us cone together with our symptoms we can make progress on understanding more about dystonia. One thing I have found that many people with dystonia have is balance issues/coordination issues. For me, struggle with walking up/down the stairs. My physical therapist also noticed I have a mild case of nystagmus (my eyes shake)

    • @ece951
      @ece951 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am trying your method in my all life now. I am relaxing my shoulders and trying to keep my posture straight (even using computer, i am not recline my back to the chair). Also i am making some new excercises for strengthen my lower back muscles. I noticed my brain forgot my lower back muscles and after a few days of intentional squezing these muscles with simple exercises my brain started to recognize them. At the begining, i was spending a lot of efforts to keep my straight posture. But now it is some more easy. And also when i keept my posture good (especially in my lower back) my head is not shaking (hand shakes still continues). I will continue to keep this posture and make these exercises and let you know about the results. By the way, i never had painted my hair (i saw in your one comment). I don't think that the reason is dyes. I believe that we can solve this together. Thank you very much. It gave me a hope to meet you.

      Diana McVicker excellent question! I have heard that water aerobics can be very beneficial because of the low resistance. Personally I have never tried that so I can't say for sure. I do know from experience that the most important thing is that you do not put stress on the spasming, regardless of which stretches or exercise you choose. And if ever you have pain stop immediately. It can cause more issues, and longer healing times

    You're very brave I've started have these moments of head shakes and I'm soo embarrassed and I shouldn't be you're a lovely strong women. one question mines come and go like there was a 22 day gap between my most recent and last one can it all be down to anxiety or is this just going to get steadily worse. mines looks exactly like yours shaking side to side like I'm saying no and often relaxing and deep breathing somewhat calms it but sometimes it can last upto an hour at a time. would be very greatful for a reply I've been so worried about this and there is such little information. thanks and take care you're a great person

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Douglas Adams Thank you so much for sharing. It can be scary to talk about. To semi answer your question, yes anxiety aggravates the shaking. I think it's because we tense up when we get stressed. I've had...Maybe five, or six physical therapy sessions and I don't shake anymore. I have documented all the things I learned in physical therapy in my other videos.
      Every so often I'll get a tiny shake. But it will last only a few seconds, and it's a reminder to me to do my exercises.
      Did that help? 😟 This is a hard, scary thing to deal with. I'm so proud of you for doing research. It's so important to be your own health advocate. Find what works for you. I'm here if you have any questions.

    I have my cervical dystonia in ecpxactly the same area behind the head, probably the same muscle called “splenius capitis” that is tight, stiff and very irritated. Diagnosed after 30 years. It gives me lots of tension ans stress in the head, with headaches, confusion and poor concentration. Tried botox several times, didn’t help. Take only a small dosage of clonazepam every day that controls my spasms. Change of weather and poor sleep are my greatest enemies. In good, stable and dry sunny weather, I feel better. Once the weather changes, the little muscle feels the pressure and gets very tight and irritated. While my head is in bad weather-like condition as if I have a heavy cloud in my head. When the weather clears from the clouds, my head clears too with less symptoms.

      Nikkel Farm Thank you for your comment!
      1) She firmly pressed, and held my spasming muscle for about 10 minutes. It as very painful, but effective. I instantly felt better, and my shaking decreased about 80-90%. She explained that she was essentially "resetting"the muscle. I'm linking the video that explains it in detail.
      th-cam.com/video/v82zWVP6CZE/w-d-xo.html

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2) I felt better instantly. I still had "episodes" of shaking that I couldn't control, (especially if I triggered it with stress, adrenalin, or by drinking anything with caffeine). But before my physical therapy I shook 24 hours a day. After physical therapy I would only have short episodes of shaking, a few minutes long, every few days or so. So, my treatment gave me dramatic results instantly. The physical therapy exercises that my therapist gave me to do at home were preventative maintenance. The exercises are to strengthen the muscles that surround the spasming muscle. The theory is, if the other muscles are strong enough they can keep the shaky muscle still.
      However, even now, I can't go longer than 3 months without treatment (specifically the acupressure) or my shaking comes back full force.

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nikkel Farm I had the dystonia symptoms for about 2-3 months before I stared physical therapy. I was proactive in my getting diagnosed, and finding a treatment that I was comfortable with. Before I found my physical therapist I had to see 2 general practitioners, get an MRI, see a neurologist, and see a movement-disorder specialist. At that point my treatment options were: medication (benzodiazepines) or botox injections into the spasming muscle. I was not comfortable with either of those treatment options, so I sought out my own treatments. I started with physical therapy, and had an appointment to start acupuncture. But because the physical therapy worked so well I cancelled the acupuncture.

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nikkel Farm 4) The spasming was made much worse by triggers. I found that several things triggered mine: anything that made me tense my shoulders (cold weather, stress, pinched nerves), adrenalin (feeling scared or nervous), and caffeine.
      Even still, when I feel anxiety (self conscious, embarrassed, nervous, panicky, etc) my shaking becomes more visible, beyond my ability to stop it.

      Stephen Malloy I am so sorry you have to suffer with dystonia. Within this new community I have found, I have learned some similar symptoms. Do you also suffer from coordination issues? Also, have you ever experienced "nystagmus" ?

    • @stephenm353
      @stephenm353 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      coordination yes but never heard of the other nystagmus thing. all I get is an injection then nothing for 3 months maybe 4 because appointments always get rescheduled 2 or 3 months further on.. hate this thing

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Malloy The more I'm learning about cervical dystonia, the more I am wondering if it is actually a symptom of a vestibular issue. What I mean is, inside your head there's a mechanism that controls your balance. Essentially, it tells your body where you are, and how it needs to respond. For example, if you start to lean forward your body sends a signal to put your hands out to catch you.
      Well, my theory is that if something goes wrong with that internal level (vestibular system) the head gets a signal to go left. But that signal is interrupted with vision that says go right. My head would shake left and right constantly. And three times I've had nystagmus episodes. That is when your eyes shift in one direction over and over again. Like my head dystonia, except in my eyes.
      Anyways, sorry for my rant. I think there could be a connection. But like you mentioned, doctor's don't care to FIX the cause of dystonia, they only get paid to mask our symptoms with botox. So it is up to us to be our own health advocate.

    • @stephenm353
      @stephenm353 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Life With Us not a rant. it's good to talk to someone with practically the same as i have as no one knows how we really are or feel inside. it's a terrible and embarrassing thing to have. I'm loaded with sensory tricks that kind of hide what I have but it doesn't always work lol. your video is also about back muscles and I also have bother with that and the shrugging of shoulders to stem the spasms.

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephen Malloy It's so awesome that you've recognized what triggers you. When you feel it triggered relax your shoulders and try to focus on flexing the middle of your back. Honestly, the thing that helped me the most was having my pt "disengage" my spasming neck muscle. I posted a video on just that. She basically felt around lightly on the back of my neck until she felt the muscle that was spasming. She pressed and held it for about ten minutes. She didn't rub, she just firmly held it. When she was done, I sat up and instantly my head was 80% better. By the next day I was rarely shaking at all.
      That was my very first pt visit. Today, months later, I'm not shaking. I have my trigger moments that start a few shakes here and there, but nothing like it was.

But anyways about 2 weeks ago I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my neck starting moving to the left and I would straighten my neck back to the middle well then it did it again and after that the only way I could keep my neck from doing that was to take my hand and keep pressure on my head. After about a day it went away but then a couple of days ago it has came back and it has gotten worse. I can't concentrate without my neck wanting to turn to the left side, I have bad shaking in my neck and the only time it doesn't do it is when I am laying down.
    I'm not sure what I need to do and I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on what I can do.
    Thank you!!

      David Stevens Good morning! That sounds like cervical dystonia to me, and possibly torticollis, (The most common type causes the chin to pull toward the shoulder. Symptoms include a limited range of head motion, headache, or neck pain).
      But you're not going to like my advice 😁
      I think it's time to see a doctor, or physical therapist, or whomever you are comfortable seeing. The reason is that dystonia can have several underlying causes. Example, I had to get a brain MRI to be sure I didn't have a tumor. So, although I think you have gotten the accurate diagnosis, you still want to be sure it's not more, you know? Just to be safe.
      But I agree with you. Doctors rush you, disregard your feelings, and charge you $$$$. I haven't had good experiences with them either. Physical therapists on the other hand, now they're amazing. Every physical therapist I've ever seen listens to all my concerns, addresses each issue, and are extremely affordable.
      Let me know what you think.

      Good Morning to you also! Thank you so very much responding back to my message.
      I've never liked going to see a doctor just because of being scared of them finding something seriously wrong like a brain tumor or some type of cancer. People call me stubborn lol.
      But anyways I called a Chiropractor about 30 mins ago and they set me up for an appt Wednesday morning. I know you said Physical Therapy is helping you. I'm not a medical expert by no means but is a Chiropractor and a Physical Therapist about the same thing?

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Stevens I thought so too, but I was told they're opposing ideas. when my husband went to a chiropractor they told him to pick one or the other, chiropractor or physical therapist. The chiropractor said they readjust where the bones are supposed to go, whereas a physical therapist "resets" the muscles.
      For my situation, it was more muscles in my neck causing the twitching, as you can see from my other videos. Popping the neck wouldn't have fixed it, for me. But I can't say in your situation. But I do hope you will keep us all updated! The dystonia community on TH-cam is incredibly helpful and encouraging.

      Hello I just wanted to let you know I went to a doctor and a Chiropractor and both have said I have a condition called Acute Torticollis and I am going through some physical therapy and going to see my Chiropractor once a week. I can tell a difference but I'm still a long way from being back 100%.
      Just thought I would let you know and thank you very much!

    I have the same thing as you have. I really need help. My body shakes like I have a verve issue but the spasms is so bad in my neck goes to the top of my back of my head. Do you think I should do this exercise?

    • @LifeWithUs
      @LifeWithUs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for commenting. These exercises have worked for me, but it is important that you consult your doctor before starting any sort of exercise regime, especially if you are having spasms. A doctor will also be able to start a treatment plan with you. I have heard that several things have helped others with muscle spasms, including: acupuncture, acupressure, massage, physical therapy, and/or medication. But it is important to consult your physician to find out which of these might best suit your needs.

      My head still shakes, but only a small amount. When the shaking gets worse I go back to physical therapy for treatment

      penelope May 🤔 very interesting! No, I haven't heard of that. But I had a similar therapy for a different problem- we used lidocain injections directly into a nerve. I did this probably 5-6 times over the span of a year. Eventually the nerve went completely numb and I haven't had an issue since. I wonder if it's anything like that

    I was born with thoracic dextroscoliosis so in the area of my right scapula my spine is crooked. Im 40 now and about 2 yrs ago i started have right sided shoulder/rotator cuff issues. Did PT. Then a few months ago reinjured the rotator cuff. I go to an orthopedist and turns out i have right scapular dyskinesis (my scapula wings out and causes impingement) and he thought i had some neck involvement anyways i do PT for that but also my head tremor which no one barely saw started to get worse. For me, i only get it at rest. So i was thinking it is cervical dystonia, not essential tremor which i was told by a neurologist years ago i had a tremor i did not even realize i had. Recently it got worse to the point some people asked if i was having a seizure, but I didn’t even know my head was doing that. It does bother me at night when trying to go to sleep but if i change position i can make it stop. Also if i put a cottonball in my ear, it stops. That’s another reason I think it is dystonia, not essential tremor. My PCP has no clue and says to see neurology. But, i am against medication because meds cause movement disorders and the meds for dystonia can cause permanent dyskinesias. Anyways i saw your videos, and they cured me! I started putting two and two together and i figured out with my scapular dyskinesia, my right shoulder is higher now and affecting my neck. So if I concentrate on keeping that shoulder down, then my neck doesn’t shake. When i am at rest my shoulder/scapula wants to go up so i think that’s why i get the resting head tremor. Anyways, for whatever reason, i tried the exercises u said in this video and another video and along with focusing on keeping my shoulder down, it stops the tremor!!! So i think my scapular dyskinesis grew from having scoliosis, so theres all these right sided anatomical changes, thus muscle imbalances, thus affecting my neck etc so then my head shakes. Thank you and keep posting more videos! Super greatful for finding your channel.

      Oh my goodness, this is so incredible! I have never had someone say that these exercises helped so much. That is so incredible!!! Have you tried acupressure on the spasming muscle? Please keep in touch. And thank you so much for sharing, you totally made my day!

      Life With Us ive never done botox or acupuncture or anything. I studied myofascial pain syndrome and perform trigger point therapy on myself, that works awesome!!! Just wherever you have a pain, push into it for 2 minutes, then you feel a release like your muscles lower and relax. It really helps me and by doing that i’ve found problems that i thought were in one body part, i was wrong, they actually originate elsewhere but i feel things towards the end of the nerve path. Like my upper eyelid area gives me problems but if i rub a ball across my jaw joint, the nerve in my eye pulsates so it’s actually a jaw issue... or like the back of my scalp gets affected from my neck

      S K if you have tremor... i highly recommend taking a hard look at nutrition. Try to eat seafood 5 times a week for Omega 3s... it significantly helps issues with dopamine. I highly recommend eating roasted bone marrow twice per week as well. I also recommend making sure to get 35 percent your caloric intake from fat

    Exhale to put the rib cage down... Inhale trough mid left back and right scapula .... that should turn off the SCMs muscles and stop pulling he rib cage up, they act as accessory breathing muscles.... getting that pressure on the occiput... remember there are 3 dimensions... you can make It better but you’ll never fix it fully ... also can lower your tongue in the Lower front on your chin , oscillating tongue pressure on the canines when switching body wheight ... you lost lateral movement .....

      Euplayer Campionii thank you for your comment! I have not tried Botox. My amazing results came from acupressure, and physical therapy. I still have the head tremors. But they only show up maybe every 3-6 months. Then I go in again to physical therapy, and the acupressure "resets" the muscle so that it doesn't shake.

      Ink d I'm so sorry 😟 really, money is the last thing you should have to be worrying about. I know how disabling dystonia can be mentally, physically, and emotionally - without the financial aspect. Do you have a support system? People that you can rely on? I've found that emotional therapy is as important as physical therapy. If you become emotionally burnt out the symptoms are ten times worse, and you may lack motivation to find relief.
