- Michael J. Knowles, the American broadcaster, political commentator, actor and author, is the guest of Dr Gavin Ashenden for this 75th episode for Merely Catholic, the podcast series for the Catholic Herald.
They discuss the many “diverse and eccentric” identities of American conservatism in the twilight of the Biden presidency and Mr Knowles’ work for the Daily Wire, the popular US news website and media company, amid the shifting sands of the cultural revolutions of the last decade. They also talk about the vital role of the Catholic Church in upholding objective moral truth in the crisis of relativism gripping the West.

As an Evangelical Law Professor from Portugal, I started reading and studying the Church Fathers as I worried about the corrosive effects of new-marxist and post-modernist acideologies and decided to become a Catholic. My wife and 21 year old boy decided to do the same.
In your charity, professor, please help me pay my rent. I've been out of job in more than a year now. Deus o abençoe.

@@Dee-mj3pu I would love to, but I don't even have the means to do anything right now. I'm in a terrible place.
This discussion is brilliant…..young man, old man, American, British……true Catholicism at work. Best show ever!
Thanks all. Any conversation with Dr Ashenden is worth its weight in gold
Gavin Ashenden is a brilliant man and we're lucky to have him !
The Gavin Ashenden impact is evident. Am getting stronger in my faith.
Two of my favorite people and Catholic commentators. Thank you for this video. Intelligent, inspiring and hopeful.
I love Michael’s explanations.
Wonderful discussion! Thank you both!
What a great interview. I could listen for hours. I appreciated Michael's optimism as these are dark days but we must have faith. Thank you Gavin.
It is always useful to be reminded of what we already know. This whole discussion is a 'Tour de Force'. More please.
Christ is King!
This has been a wonderful discussion between two very articulate and knowledgeable commentators. Thank you. It needs a wider audience.
Always great to hear Michael's optimistic take on things.
A great talk between two great Catholics🙏
God bless you both and keep up the good work🙏
Great interview and nice to see Michael have an interlocutor that knows at least what he does about catholic history.
Delightful to encounter this level of intellectual conversation. Thank you!
Thank you.
Knowles' optimism and "joyful warrior" spirit is so refreshing. Thanks for the interview!
Very good discussion.
Mr Knowles showed more thoughtfulness than I credited him with.
what a wonderful converstion. thank you for this!
A great time to be and grow as a Catholic!!
A great time to be and grow as Eastern Orthodox.
I learned such a lot. Thank you. Greetings from Berlin Germany.
Wonderful conversation. Deserves so many more views.
I’m a Catholic Highland Scot..
Yes we had the straw kicked out of by the Anglican Aristocracy.
We were only able to build Catholic chapels were only build after 300 years of bigotry, which has not ended. Yes, we are second class citizens. The fight for our identity goes on . Yet, our faith/ ideology goes on, the light of Christ goes on as it did during our those years of persecution.
That felt like a very interesting and vital discussion was cut way to short.
Thanks though let me know when and if there is a part 2.
great!
if memory serves, the Tridentine Mass was an attempt to unify or standardize the Latin rite Mass which over the centuries had developed all kinds of variations all over the place. Not only the ambrosian rite which still exists, but various religious order rites, not to mention the many dioceses.
Thanks much for this video.
Mike should do another interview entitled; '.........and how the ORTHODOX Church can save the West.'
Dailywire UK? Why not?
Daily liar
Catholicism has built-in checks & balances!
hi Gavin. I'll save and listen later
I’ve been watching the YT channel “Reason and Theology “. Michael Loftan’s channel. He is working on a doctorate in magisterial and papal authority. Very balanced and hopeful. He used to be a Protestant, then a Radical Traditionalist Catholic, then a true obedient Catholic and not critical of our authoritative Church teachings or the Pope and brings a very balanced and intellectual approach to what people say the Pope says and what he actually says. His insight is invaluable and excellent.
I concur
One of the best interviews I've heard in a long time. I'm a big fan of Michael Knowles, and it used to bother me that some of his best talks, like this interview or his lecture on Donte, get relatively so few views and interest, while his comparatively lowbrow political shows get so much, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I realize that to be a Catholic is like being well-read or thoughtful these days, it's puts you in a small group, and we shouldn't aim to be loved by the world. I hope Michael keeps doing serious interviews and talks like this.
How I wish that we had a Catholic pope 🤷🏻♂️
Truly excellent.
I agree with Cardinal Sarah. Our job is not to "Save The West".
It’s the End Times. The Church is going through its Passion….And will Resurrect ❤🙏🏼
Mike is totally wrong at 14:00, Orthodoxy is the only Church to go to for all the answers. BTW; the Orthodox know about the Marcion heresy too......sigh.
Wake up Mike.
"... and it's very nice to meet you in person"?
Michael misses the point; Boniface VIII did not - unlike Francis - actually attack the RC faith.
I am a traditional Catholic in central London. What is it with you advertising for such a political organisation. What about being neutral.
Neutral on what?
With all due respect, both of these Catholics need to take an Ecclesiology 101 course.......Michael Lofton is a Professor and teaches a course on the Magisterium at a college. He would make a great guest on this show. Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna happen.
Semplicemente non sono d'accordo. Per esempio, penso che Bambi sia un pesce. Sai, questo mi ricorda uno scherzo...
Heck no to RCC. Yes to Jesus the Bible and Christianity.
Heck no to RCC. Yes to the LORD Jesus CHRIST and the Holy Orthodox Church.
@@marcokite Orthodox less bad than RCC. Its RCC lite.
The councils of the Catholic Church determined which books belong in the Bible. That process wasn't completed until the 4th century A.D.
And it's not the RCC. It's just the Catholic Church. There are over 20 other rites. "Roman" (actually "Latin" is the correct term) is just one of them but they are all in communion with each other and have the same teachings. Unlike Protestant or Orthodox.
@@julieelizabeth4856 ROMAN catholic church is its own thing. The are the original protestants. Your church teaches muslims worship the same God as Christians.
@@jsharp9735 Calling the Church that compiled the Bible through the ecumenical councils « the original protestants » doesn’t really check out when you read the type of the theology those Church Fathers (some of which were present at those councils themselves) had
Why are you advertising for the horrible daily wire
To the Israeli wire, Christ is King.
I’m sure Mr. Knowles supports the type of “Catholicism” that his employer, Mr. Shapiro, finds acceptable.
