I couldn't possibly choose a favorite. I do LOVE the wit of the Dowager Countess. No one could deliver those lines quite like Dame Maggie smith. The banter back and forth between her and Penelope Wilton is perfection. I truly love them all!!
My favorite character was Anna. Her tremendous inner strength, beautiful personality, and dynamic, easygoing friendliness drew me in immediately. I've been following Joanne Frogatt's career ever since.
I absolutely adore Edith, her growth and character development was impeccable. I was so thankful that after being seen as the side character sister for majority of the series she ended up having the higher title and in my opinion, the nicer man in the end. Truly wonderful character
Edith is terrible and has destroyed/caused severe emotional trauma to several families and even forced the drewes off of the estate because of HER actions
She annoyed the hell out of me. Her character’s story just dragged about like a dead body. It was insufferable and I skipped a large portion of her scenes

Then I binged watched the series and watched the film strait after, it made so much more sense then, it just felt like an extra Christmas special. It flowed so much more. The Dowager, but then she does have amazing ‘looks’ and the best lines... I still laugh when I think of her asking what a ‘weekend’ was. Priceless! That said they were all fab.
Daisy is my favorite character. To see her grow from country bumping into an educated self assured young woman was a treat. Of course Dame Maggie is the best at her craft.

It would be fun to see, but there's several interviews with Julian Fellows saying he's hesitant about doing stories based in the 30s because WW2 has been a focus of soo many films & TV series. So don't think it will actually happen 😕
As a Cuban English teacher l strongly recommend this series to my students as an example of the most beautiful, educated display of language, including the American cast and also as a sample of civilized people discussing politics in the most civilized way.
The english conversations, the accents, pronunciation, ,reminds me of english i've been learning at school and univercity in 80-90-s, in Soviet Union, late USSR.
My favorite Downton Abby characters are Violet and Isabelle. Their banter reminds me of my two Aunts who are sisters. Lol. I also Love Tom Branson. He has a wonderful heart
I fell in love with the character Anna Bates as portrayed by Joanna Froggat. I don't think I want to have that spoiled by seeing her displaying a 'bad side', LOL... She is So very lovely. I'm saddened that her marriage isn't working, but still pray that it can.
Our local PBS station has been running Downton Abbey on Monday nights. It’s been heavenly bliss. There was a series on PBS back in the seventies called Upstairs Downstairs. The title says it all. It was a fabulous series. I think it would seem dated to today’s viewers, but Downton has stepped into the void!
The actress they showed the photo of playing Queen Elizabeth in The Crown is Olivia Coleman, they should have shown the photo of Imelda Staunton in the role. While both are longtime favorites of mine, Staunton can take any role and make it her own, she is such an underrated actress in America, she was absolutely perfect in Sense and Sensibility! Though come to that, so is her amazing husband, underrated! Jim Carter can take on the personna of absolutely anyone and play it perfectly. One of my favorite roles of his was in The Golden Compass, playing John Faa. That was such an amazing movie with a stellar cast, why they shelved the sequels is such a shame!!
Favorite character Lady Edith and favorite actors Maggie Smith and Laura Carmichael. Laura Carmichael seems very convincing and outright perfect in what ever role I've seen her play in.
I love Hugh Bonneville :) he's such a great actor and has such presence. However all the actors and actresses are magnificent in Downton ... especially Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth Mcgovern and Jim Carter.... splendid cast.
All of them even the villains they all had such great acting chemistry together and gave us a great well rounded rich show! I always kind of felt bad for Edith even though she did some messed up things to her own sister and some innocent villager families, but a lot of it came from her own insecurities and desperation but she had classic middle child syndrome and i still wanted her to find her own happiness.
I loved all the cast esp the main characters but Maggie Smith took the trophy for me! What she said & how she said it just made me crease up sometimes! The whole thing was so good, I’m watching the whole thing all over again!!! SO Good!
As someone who enjoyed every episode and every character of such a stellar series, I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. Still I have been a fan of Maggie Smith since I saw her in “ The Prime of Miss jean Brodie”.
I really enjoyed Matthew and Mr. Bates and Mr. Carson.. Mary was spectacular. I have to say that Mr. Mosley was very peculiar and kept me guessing of what he was up to. Excellent movie. I hope there will be other series coming up in the next few years. Thank you for the entertainment.

Just saying but I love this show a lot and I love it because the real place Highclere castle has ties to the tomb of king tut and what I mean by that is George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert the 5th earl of Carnarvon who lived in Highclere castle undertook to sponsor the excavation of nobles tombs in Deir el Bahari in 1907 then he employed Howard Carter to undertake the work but in 1914 lord carnarvon received the concession to dig in the valley of the kings however due to ww1 excavations were interrupted until 1917 but then on November 4th 1922 carter sent a telegram to lord carnarvon saying “At last we have made wonderful discovery in valley; a magnificent tomb with seals intact; recovered same for your arrival congratulations then on November 29th the lord carnarvon and his daughter lady Evelyn Herbert returned to Egypt then on February 16 1923 the inner burial chamber was opened.
Maggie Smith is hands down, my favorite. Her witticisms lifted the caliber of Downton several notches
