My unit just broke today. The motor is fine. I think the bearings in the upper tube are shot . Can't move it left or right. Good video. Hopefully, my unit has that screw to remove the gear hub like yours.
If the bearings end up being fine, check the linkage cable that runs from the foot pedal all the way up to the drum in the head unit as that controls the side to side movement.
Hey, very thorough video thanks. One part i’m stumped on - can you tell me how to remove the smaller tube from the lower unit? I see you putting it back together with the locktite but didnt see you removing it.
I didn’t remove mine. In the video I explained that I bought a new lower tube so I didn’t have to mess with removing it. I would imagine you’d have to heat it to break down the factory sealant in order to unthread it. So, I didn’t remove mine, i bought a new one and threaded it into the new motor assembly and sealed it.
Where can I find help, directions, video. I have a Minn Kota Edge 55#, I had to replace head cove, bottom cover cove cracked. I have everything put back together, but cannot get the foot control cables tension correct. I know how to use tension screw on foot control. So I still have top cover off of head so I can see if cables will work, but the either come loose on head pulley, or they’ll come loose on foot control pulleys. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I just bought a lightly used minn kota edge 55 # foot control. It looked pretty long when I saw it but bought it anyway. It's a 52" unit. Do you see any problem in shortening the inner tube by 10" or so at the top end? TY, Ken
@@chickenthighfishing Hi, I've watched your video several times. You did an awesome job, very informative. I have another question: did you have any problem aligning the directional arrow with the motor pointing directly forward and having the foot pedal at the middle of its travel? Was or is that a consideration to deal with? TY, Ken
The directional arrow is quite easy to adjust. Maybe a little tedious the first time you do it...and you do have to go into the head unit and break it down a bit...but it's easy. Different people have different positions they like the foot pedal to be in when they are going straight ahead. And sometimes (I'm not sure how) it gets out of whack and needs to be adjusted back. You just gave me an idea for a new video. I'll do a video on adjusting the directional indicator. If you don't want to wait for the video, shoot me an e mail and I'll try to nail down a step-by-step that will help you out.
Thanks for the video. I have an older MinnKota Endura 55lb thrust trolling motor and the shaft cracked. I still have the original box and it says the shaft has a lifetime warranty. Did you look into warranty coverage? Or would it not be covered because you hit something?
I figured it was a lot less complicated to simply replace it myself...and I learned something. It was short money, so I didn't bother with warranty issues.
Hey thank u for sharing. I think this will help me fix my in a hurry mistake. Broke my shaft into right at the bearing.
Glad to help !

Once you break it down it’s all fairly simply laid out. Good luck !

great video....do you have a part # or link to that lower unit? thanks
I could not find the old order e mail. But if you go to Minn Kota site you can enter your serial number from your motor and they will have it.
@@chickenthighfishing thanks man......

I would make sure they are positioned correctly on the pulley drum. You may have them wrapped around the drum incorrectly causing that issue.

I would think that as long as it is a clean cut and the components for the top and bottom of the tube still fit, then it would probably be fine. IMO.

I can't find PL marine loctite where I am. Can I use Sikaflex 291? Thanks for the video!
I would imagine that any marine-rated sealant would work fine. I would just check the label to ensure it is MARINE sealant.
