This song needs to be performaned by ballroom dancers. - Mrs. Bassey, thank you for the music and your very great voice putting people under its spell.
Can you imagine the auditions to choose who would sing this song for the film? When Shirley Bassey walked in and nailed it, people must have been speechless with awe.
I rank this as the best Bond theme. The opening with the drum and trumpet still gives me chills and takes me back to when Sean Connery was James Bond and the scenes were from the 1960s.
❤❤❤Shirley❤❤❤ I love this version/retake too. It’s incredible. A slightly softer version, but is still impeccable. The power in Shirley’s voice is unbelievable. Singers today can’t compare.
i agree, this performance is even better than the recorded album version, she even did the ending longer, holding on to that last note till the end of the song, she stopped too early on the recorded version
@@archangelmusic13She is lip syncing to the single version of the song. Just look up " goldfinger single version". She holds the no longer on that track then she did for the one they used in the movie.
Holy hell 😳😩🥰🥰🥰 haha this is THE Definitive performance. She is simply outstanding here. She held that last high note powerfully for 10 whole seconds. This is the only available live version where she did that wow. Thank you so much for posting this ❤
No, _the_ greatest. No other song comes close. Now, it is _one_ of the great _movie_ songs, right up there _near_ the greatest of them all, "Over the Rainbow."
That song sung by Shirley Bassey is so hauntingly beautiful, so ethereal, mesmerizing.........I never get tired of hearing it, hearing Shirley Bassey sing it like no one, nobody could/can sing it. And my hats off to the orchestra(s) that have accompanied Dame Shirley Bassey throughout the years in her performances recreating the excitement of this wonderful theme song.......my absolute favorite of all the 007 theme songs !!
A superb performance from Shirley. This is possibly THE Bond title song. Fantastic vocal and orchestration from John Barry - right up to those final notes. This wouldn't have been too long after her famous recording session; and here she is miming to the version that was released on a 45 at the time - far better than the soundtrack version. The single only reached No.21 here in November 1964 but in the States it peaked at No.8 in the Billboard Hot 100, whilst the soundtrack album went right to No.1! A 'Gold' disc affair!
wow she held onto the last note longer than she did in the studio version, i always thought she ended the last note too soon in the studio version, but she held onto it here right to the end like it was meant for
Totally get that but she said John Barry was stood there conducting saying for her to keep holding it that she was going blue in the face and the nearly fainted 😱 she did do absolutely amazing considering all that happened too though and here as well 🤗🥰❤💞💕
@@xpinkpixiedollx this performance is better than the recorded version because she held the note longer and i always felt the note on the recorded version was to short because the music kept going after she stopped, but here she stays with the music and it ends when she ends
Is she lip synching for TV . There is no mic and not much movement of those Bassey hands for the 1st part of the song . As a female impersonator since '69 in Aust I have noticed this . I've also met The Dame in Melb backstage in '77 through my stage mngr friend . Memorable !! 💖
Me encanta su perfomance su teatralidad su esquisita voz su gran personalidad esas cantantes ya no hay simplemente ya no hay ni habran 😮 simplemente y love you shirley bassey forever
Shirley Bassey and Dusty Springfield were my dad’s favorites back then. If their songs came on the car radio, he was somewhere else. He used to wink at me and smile. I now get it.☝️
Wow, in the original key! Amazing. Have never seen this. Thank you for posting it! (Came to this video from watching a clip of her singing Goldfinger in 2022, at age 85! God bless Dame Shirley Bassey.)
@@darreylhenderson702 Ahh… right, thanks. Oh well lol. I love this version, though. And she was an expert lip-syncer! I can only detect a clear mismatch with the audio in one place.
Her voice used to be so light back then. I know her voice well from 78 onwards but I seldom find earlier clips. The tone remained similar but the power she acquired from 76 on was insane .
I used to think Eartha Kitt sang this song! I never watched James Bond movies. But now I see Shirley Bassey's performance, and it's absolutely stunning. What a beautiful woman and singer.
Went to see Gold Finger with my Mother & Father & Brother in 1964 seems a long time ago now , wish we were all back together again nice innocent times of listening to police broadcast on VHF
For those wondering, she is lip syncing to the single version of the song. Look up " goldfinger single version" And you'll find the studio track She is miming to.
Everyone is wondering about the note at the end and the subtle differences throughout the song in comparison with the soundtrack version. Well, this is the mono version that was released as a single and the other one that gets the most airplay today was meant for the soundtrack primarily. This version right here is the one in which she nearly fainted at the studio. There are surely early performances of the song that she does the same note and she sings the original key but up until now i've found the 1967, 1968 and 1969-1970 performances that resemble the most the original version.
absolutely the best version she did live (if its live - where is the mic???). its musically flawless. the audience reaction is so tut tut and lukewarm - makes me want to get Sid Vicious onto them to do his version of 'my way' lol
Sweetie, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Lizzo have no clue. This is a true singer. Doesn’t have to have any body parts hanging out to get an audience.
quite agree, all that other music is trash. shirley bassey, nancy wilson, eartha kitt, gladys knight, etta james, diana ross, tina turner, that is real music!!!!
no clue who any of those people you named are, never heard of them, i see people left replies saying they are rappers, i dont know any rappers, i dont follow rap
When you havent heard this in a while, its easy to forget just how perfect Shirley was for this song. Such a force.
Honestly, this woman was born to sing, so tiny and such a big voice. I love singing of her.
The best of all time singers. Shirley Bassey has left her legacy for life unlike today’s one minute wonders.
Oh, f*ck off. Can't you just like something without sh*thing on someone else?

A fabulous powerhouse! The amazing Shirley Bassey! Lovely and talented!
The BEST Bond movie theme! What a classic! Shirley knocked it out of park! Miss Sinatra, had the second best Bond song.

Shirley Bassey is AMAZING! Her other work (including Bond songs) is great as well!
I love how the audience applauded as if someone played the recorder at a kids talent show. That was out of this world
wow that woman can sing and can hold a note
She’s 86 now and can still sing amazingly
Wow! That was impressive!
